Each review score is between 1-10. To get the overall score that you see, we add up all the review scores we’ve received and divide that total by the number of review scores we’ve received. We are currently testing a weighted review system in Malta and Iceland (excluding hotel and vacation rental chains). For properties in these countries, the more recent the review, the bigger the impact on the total review score calculation. In addition, guests can give separate ‘subscores’ in crucial areas, such as location, cleanliness, staff, comfort, facilities, value for money and free Wi-Fi. Note that guests submit their subscores and their overall scores independently, so there’s no direct link between them.
You can review an Accommodation that you booked through our Platform if you stayed there or if you arrived at the property but didn’t actually stay there. To edit a review you’ve already submitted, please contact our Customer Service team.
We have people and automated systems that specialise in detecting fake reviews submitted to our Platform. If we find any, we delete them and, if necessary, take action against whoever is responsible.
Anyone else who spots something suspicious can always report it to our Customer Service team, so our Fraud team can investigate.
Ideally, we would publish every review we receive, whether positive or negative. However, we won’t display any review that includes or refers to (among other things):
To make sure reviews are relevant, we may only accept reviews that are submitted within 3 months of checking out, and we may stop showing reviews once they’re 36 months old – or if the Accommodation has a change of ownership.
An Accommodation may choose to reply to a review.
When you see multiple reviews, the most recent ones will be at the top, subject to a few other factors (what language a review is in, whether it’s just a rating or contains comments as well, etc.). If you like, you can sort and/or filter them (by time of year, review score, etc.).
We sometimes show external review scores from other well-known travel websites. We make it clear when we’ve done this.
These guidelines and standards aim to keep the content on Booking.com relevant and family-friendly without limiting expression of strong opinions. They are also applicable regardless of the sentiment of the comment.
Contributions should be travel related. The most helpful contributions are detailed and help others make better decisions. Please don’t include personal, political, ethical, or religious commentary. Promotional content will be removed and issues concerning Booking.com’s services should be routed to our Customer Service or Accommodation Service teams.
Contributions should be appropriate for a global audience. Please avoid using profanity or attempts to approximate profanity with creative spelling, in any language. Comments and media that include 'hate speech', discriminatory remarks, threats, sexually explicit remarks, violence, and the promotion of illegal activity are not permitted.
All content should be genuine and unique to the guest. Reviews are most valuable when they are original and unbiased. Your contribution should be yours. Booking.com property partners should not post on behalf of guests or offer incentives in exchange for reviews. Attempts to bring down the rating of a competitor by submitting a negative review will not be tolerated.
Respect the privacy of others. Booking.com will make an effort to obscure email addresses, telephone numbers, website addresses, social media accounts, and similar details.
The opinions expressed in contributions are those of Booking.com customers and properties and not of Booking.com. Booking.com does not accept responsibility or liability for any reviews or responses. Booking.com is a distributor (without any obligation to verify) and not a publisher of these comments and responses.
By default, reviews are sorted based on the date of the review and on additional criteria to display the most relevant reviews, including but not limited to: your language, reviews with text, and non-anonymous reviews. Additional sorting options may be available (by type of traveller, by score, etc.).

NetherlandsWhat a lovely homestay! Everything is done with love and attention. A warm welcome by the family, fantastic food, lovely rooms with a spectacular view. And no noise, only the sounds of nature 😊( in Rantepao the mosk will wake you up early in the morning, or great chance there is a karaoke bar somewhere). Highly recommended!

SwitzerlandThis homestay was wonderful! The host was very kind, helpful, flexible and an amazing cook (breakfast and dinner). She organized a guide and motorbike, which was perfect for the 4 days we stayed with Manai. The homestay is located a bit outside busy Rantepao surrounded by traditional Toraja-houses, in a quite (exept the chickens) and green evironement - beautiful! We would recommend the stay anytime.

GermanySadly, we were the only guests during most of our stay, but we really hope this was just a coincidence, as this place deserves to be discovered and visited!
This is a homestay in the best possible interpretation (in our opinion)! The family has converted their traditional farmhouse into a nice little boutique hotel with a few rooms - all have big windows to enjoy the beautiful views across the rice fields and mountains. On the yard you have the typcial traditional houses to look at, while the rooms are in a modern building with all the comfort you need (own bathroom, wifi, shared fridge, comfortable beds etc.). Breakfast and dinner is served at separate tables in a shared area or on covered balconies. The food was always delicous and freshly cooked, the host ... always asked for our preferences and even our sometimes picky son found enough nice options to eat (just a simple thing like serving the components of a meal on separate plates can do magic). Every morning there was a different fresh fruit juice to enjoy, the staff was all very friendly and they all speak very good English. They were always around if we needed them, could recommend a wonderful guide (Mr. Anis) who we booked for 2 days to take us around the area, did our laundry before we moved on and overall you still have a maximum of privacy around the house. The place is a bit outside of central Rantepao, so you will need some transport to get here, but either you are travelling with a driver or you can get a taxi. Not an issue for us, as we were away most of the day to explore the area and were happy to return to our relaxing "home" in the evenings.

SwedenIt would have been nice with a fan in the room. Also a rack to hang towels and wet clothes on to dry would have been apreciated.
Nice and quiet location. Tongkan houses as our closest neighbour. Very good food at the homestay. Also walking distance to a few restaurants if you want to go out to eat. Excellent service with airport transfer and arrangements with driver and guide to get around Toraja.

IcelandThis is a GREAT homestay. The rooms were nice and spacious. Everything was clean. The staff was so helpful and kind, they even went with my mother to the town and helped her buy a new and cheap phone after other one broke down. The food was AMAZING, so tasty! There was also a guide that greeted us when we came, his name Yusuf, he planned a glorious 2 day tour around the area and we even got to witness a Torajan funeral ritual. The hotel also helped to arrange transportation to Rantepao from Tentena and then from Rantepao to Sengkang, the drivers name was Indi and he is a really good driver and takes good care of his passengers in the bumpy and hectic roads of Sulawesi

SpainSome challenges we had during our stay (but that were not that much of a problem for us): - electricity / water cut every day in the morning - There are no taxis / transfer available to Rantepao so we had to go walking there to rent a scooter.. and it is 1h walking!! We were lucky we found a taxi after walking for 20 min. Same to go back to Rantepao to take the night bus, we had to go by scooter with all the luggage… a bit complicated!! - Also, we didn’t like the guide they recommended, we couldn’t understand his English, we went to a ceremony with him which was nice but super little explanations and not good english… we don’t recommend taking the guide with them, also the prices the guide was asking us at the beginning were 10x times the ones offered in Rantepao.
The room was super super nice! amazing views to the Toraja houses with little terrace!! super calm and great food! super nice owners. Would definitely come back!

United StatesThere was nothing we did not like about staying at the Rura Raya Homestay
We stayed here for only one night before beginning a tour of Toraja. The room was large and comfortable and had the most amazing views across the fields to the hills beyond. The lady who owns the property could not have been more lovely. We are vegetarian but that somehow got missed, so when they brought us dinner it had meat, but she was apologetic, although it was probably my mistake, and brought us something else to eat in no time. We loved our short stay here.

The hosts Monike and Geri are very responsive on what’s app and helped us make a night bus reservation from Makassar and arranged for us to be collected from the bus stop at 5am. Monike really is a wonderful cook , extremely generous meal sizes too! they put us in touch with a local guide who provided an excellent overview of Toraja in 2 days including a funeral ceremony . highly recommend

What a great stay we had! Lady who runs this homestay is so friendly and helpful, she cooks so good, both breakfasts and dinners are delicious, rooms are quite small but clean, bed is comfortable (fresh and clean bedding & towels), owner halped us to ogranize trips (we had a great guide and driver), easy contact via Whatsapp, location is quiet, approx. 3km from Rantepao center which is ok as owner arranged pick up and dropp off to bus station. Quite expensive but still ok for what you get comparing to other homestays. Highly recommanded! :)
