Each review score is between 1-10. To get the overall score that you see, we add up all the review scores we’ve received and divide that total by the number of review scores we’ve received. We are currently testing a weighted review system in Malta and Iceland (excluding hotel and vacation rental chains). For properties in these countries, the more recent the review, the bigger the impact on the total review score calculation. In addition, guests can give separate ‘subscores’ in crucial areas, such as location, cleanliness, staff, comfort, facilities, value for money and free Wi-Fi. Note that guests submit their subscores and their overall scores independently, so there’s no direct link between them.
You can review an Accommodation that you booked through our Platform if you stayed there or if you arrived at the property but didn’t actually stay there. To edit a review you’ve already submitted, please contact our Customer Service team.
We have people and automated systems that specialise in detecting fake reviews submitted to our Platform. If we find any, we delete them and, if necessary, take action against whoever is responsible.
Anyone else who spots something suspicious can always report it to our Customer Service team, so our Fraud team can investigate.
Ideally, we would publish every review we receive, whether positive or negative. However, we won’t display any review that includes or refers to (among other things):
To make sure reviews are relevant, we may only accept reviews that are submitted within 3 months of checking out, and we may stop showing reviews once they’re 36 months old – or if the Accommodation has a change of ownership.
An Accommodation may choose to reply to a review.
When you see multiple reviews, the most recent ones will be at the top, subject to a few other factors (what language a review is in, whether it’s just a rating or contains comments as well, etc.). If you like, you can sort and/or filter them (by time of year, review score, etc.).
We sometimes show external review scores from other well-known travel websites. We make it clear when we’ve done this.
These guidelines and standards aim to keep the content on Booking.com relevant and family-friendly without limiting expression of strong opinions. They are also applicable regardless of the sentiment of the comment.
Contributions should be travel related. The most helpful contributions are detailed and help others make better decisions. Please don’t include personal, political, ethical, or religious commentary. Promotional content will be removed and issues concerning Booking.com’s services should be routed to our Customer Service or Accommodation Service teams.
Contributions should be appropriate for a global audience. Please avoid using profanity or attempts to approximate profanity with creative spelling, in any language. Comments and media that include 'hate speech', discriminatory remarks, threats, sexually explicit remarks, violence, and the promotion of illegal activity are not permitted.
All content should be genuine and unique to the guest. Reviews are most valuable when they are original and unbiased. Your contribution should be yours. Booking.com property partners should not post on behalf of guests or offer incentives in exchange for reviews. Attempts to bring down the rating of a competitor by submitting a negative review will not be tolerated.
Respect the privacy of others. Booking.com will make an effort to obscure email addresses, telephone numbers, website addresses, social media accounts, and similar details.
The opinions expressed in contributions are those of Booking.com customers and properties and not of Booking.com. Booking.com does not accept responsibility or liability for any reviews or responses. Booking.com is a distributor (without any obligation to verify) and not a publisher of these comments and responses.
By default, reviews are sorted based on the date of the review and on additional criteria to display the most relevant reviews, including but not limited to: your language, reviews with text, and non-anonymous reviews. Additional sorting options may be available (by type of traveller, by score, etc.).

IndonesiaUnfortunately, this time we stayed they were very busy and they were seriously understaffed. We waited 15 minutes to even get the menu and the staff were rushed off their feet. Please management employ more staff before you lose the really good ones you already have of course, this won’t deter me, and I will be back again soon.
It’s my go to hotel when staying in Milan, it’s probably the best hotel in the area

FranceI would say that to food, in both restaurants was below expectations. But, I admit it is very subjective and person-depend.
The staff is extremely nice and helpful. A special mention for Anita and Niluh who have been very effective and patient to get me a booking to travel by train from Malang to Yojakarta. Once again many thanks to both of you for your kindness, efficacy and professionalism.

United KingdomThe colonial decor is not for everyone. We also thought the food was fine rather than exceptional. There are only 5 loungers by the pool, so it can be a bit of a scramble.
The facilities are excellent, as is the location. The pool area is beautiful, and the setting/decor is so extraordinary that you might meet tour groups being taken round. The food is among the best rated in Malang and we had outstanding massages in the spa, which we really recommend.

NetherlandsNothing I can think of. It was simply great.
What a great hotel! I would return to Malang only to dine at Merpati restaurant. I'm Dutch, so we have a lot of Indonesian restaurants in NL, but I've never ever had such tasty Indonesian food. The nasi Kampur, the rendang, etc etc. All fantastic. The decor of the hotel is lovely, the location is great, the facilities such as the pool and the afternoon tea where simply wonderful. The hotel is an ocean of tranquility when coming back from busy Malang and surroundings. And also the staff is really great. There is John, who was very informative and there was, oh sorry, now forgot his name, but the cocktail shaker (who was very new he told us) who made great cocktails and also the lady at the reception who took care of the fact that we got a breakfast when leaving early for our plane. The hotel also recommended Vinny, the tour guide, and he was knowledgeable and had tons of experience in the area. We enjoyed these tours to Bromo and to the waterfalls tremendously. An absolute highlight this hotel!

IndonesiaWhen we arrived they had no record of our booking. Then it was quite some time before they found us a room. Our room did not match any of the photos and was not nearly as nice as on our previous stay. The shower wasn't functional and the plug didn't fit in the bathtub. The small room was filled with signs and hotel items such that it was like being in a shop. We had no space for our belongings. The breakfast menu here is extensive and the restaurant is truly excellent but this trip the breakfast service had problems also. I've previously said this was my favorite ever hotel but I felt this time that we were stuck in a small substandard room. Perhaps they were otherwise fully booked (?) but as we are returning guests who booked for 5 nights it was certainly disappointing.
This is our second time to this amazing hotel but sadly it didn't measure up to our previous stay. The hotel is like a museum, it is truly beautiful. Also the staff are extremely professional and do all they can to assist. The complimentary afternoon tea is great.

Lithuania1. Ants in the bathroom. 2. Just one towel per person in the room. In my opinion for hygienic reasons you need separate a separate towel for face and head. I asked for one but never got it.

PolandThe gym we used needs an upgrade, however this was a minor issue.
The hotel itself is beautiful with a lot of character and soul, you can get lost exploring all the different areas, corridors and corners; the deco is amazing. The staff is extremely friendly and speak very good English. There are restaurants and a bakery onsite you can use. If going to Bromo overnight, they will prepare you a lunch box. Plus also in the afternoon there are complimentary traditional Indonesian snacks and drink (ginger tea) served for the guests at the Tea Room. We liked the hotel so much, we extended our stay for 1 additional night with an upgrade to Executive Suite. I find it an excellent value for money - fully recommended.

United KingdomThis hotel is one of a kind. Even the most basic rooms are beautiful, and the hotel is almost overwhelming in its museum-like collections of artifacts and art. The facilities and restaurants are excellent, with complimentary afternoon tea every day Most of all though, the staff are fantastic and go above and beyond. We had an issue with a late delivery of documents to the hotel that could have ruined our trip. The staff have been fantastic in working to reunite us with our property even after we had checked out. A unique experience I can't recommend enough

NetherlandsI feel embarrassed to even start about anything negative, but feel that this honest opinion may help the hotel improve to become even better than it already is: the bathrooms really could use a renovation. To have to take a shower in a bathtub is really no longer acceptable in the 21st century, especially not with a curtain and an old fashioned mixing tap, especially not in a hotel where the hot water provision is not very modern. The water turned very hot and than again cold during a shower. Also the bathrooms are very small. Mind you also, that, as with almost all hotels in Java, sound (or other) isolation is non-existent. We take earplugs everywhere to remedy this small inconvenience. This should not be a reason to not stay in this hotel - you should, because all the rest is wonderful. The attention, the two restaurants, the spa with massage, the garden, the pool, the free teatime with treats, all add to an unforgettable time in Tugu Malang!
Where to begin? This hotel is also a museum! You are amazed by fabulous art and antiques around every corner! The rooms are fantastically authentic. You feel back in the forties of the 20th century. They have a special flora team that takes care of all the wonderful plants in and around the gardens and that prepares floral pieces for in the rooms. We have traveled throughout the world to many 5 star hotels, and we can honestly state that this is one of the best hotels ever! We almost never rate a hotel as a 10, because we reserve those tens for special gems and this is definitely one of them!
