Each review score is between 1-10. To get the overall score that you see, we add up all the review scores we’ve received and divide that total by the number of review scores we’ve received. We are currently testing a weighted review system in Malta and Iceland (excluding hotel and vacation rental chains). For properties in these countries, the more recent the review, the bigger the impact on the total review score calculation. In addition, guests can give separate ‘subscores’ in crucial areas, such as location, cleanliness, staff, comfort, facilities, value for money and free Wi-Fi. Note that guests submit their subscores and their overall scores independently, so there’s no direct link between them.
You can review an Accommodation that you booked through our Platform if you stayed there or if you arrived at the property but didn’t actually stay there. To edit a review you’ve already submitted, please contact our Customer Service team.
We have people and automated systems that specialise in detecting fake reviews submitted to our Platform. If we find any, we delete them and, if necessary, take action against whoever is responsible.
Anyone else who spots something suspicious can always report it to our Customer Service team, so our Fraud team can investigate.
Ideally, we would publish every review we receive, whether positive or negative. However, we won’t display any review that includes or refers to (among other things):
To make sure reviews are relevant, we may only accept reviews that are submitted within 3 months of checking out, and we may stop showing reviews once they’re 36 months old – or if the Accommodation has a change of ownership.
An Accommodation may choose to reply to a review.
When you see multiple reviews, the most recent ones will be at the top, subject to a few other factors (what language a review is in, whether it’s just a rating or contains comments as well, etc.). If you like, you can sort and/or filter them (by time of year, review score, etc.).
We sometimes show external review scores from other well-known travel websites. We make it clear when we’ve done this.
These guidelines and standards aim to keep the content on Booking.com relevant and family-friendly without limiting expression of strong opinions. They are also applicable regardless of the sentiment of the comment.
Contributions should be travel related. The most helpful contributions are detailed and help others make better decisions. Please don’t include personal, political, ethical, or religious commentary. Promotional content will be removed and issues concerning Booking.com’s services should be routed to our Customer Service or Accommodation Service teams.
Contributions should be appropriate for a global audience. Please avoid using profanity or attempts to approximate profanity with creative spelling, in any language. Comments and media that include 'hate speech', discriminatory remarks, threats, sexually explicit remarks, violence, and the promotion of illegal activity are not permitted.
All content should be genuine and unique to the guest. Reviews are most valuable when they are original and unbiased. Your contribution should be yours. Booking.com property partners should not post on behalf of guests or offer incentives in exchange for reviews. Attempts to bring down the rating of a competitor by submitting a negative review will not be tolerated.
Respect the privacy of others. Booking.com will make an effort to obscure email addresses, telephone numbers, website addresses, social media accounts, and similar details.
The opinions expressed in contributions are those of Booking.com customers and properties and not of Booking.com. Booking.com does not accept responsibility or liability for any reviews or responses. Booking.com is a distributor (without any obligation to verify) and not a publisher of these comments and responses.
By default, reviews are sorted based on the date of the review and on additional criteria to display the most relevant reviews, including but not limited to: your language, reviews with text, and non-anonymous reviews. Additional sorting options may be available (by type of traveller, by score, etc.).

AustraliaHonestly, my only complaint about Uma Kallai is that some of the staff seem to have caught the Western marketing disease where they need constant reassurance that you're satisfied with the facilities and enjoying yourself. If you're paying the sort of tariff that this place commands, you can do without this sort of gentle badgering. To be fair, I suspect the staff were acting as instructed, but that didn't prevent the irritation.
Uma Kallai is relatively new (opened mid-2022) but I suspect will soon be on the radar of discerning travellers to the Ubud area of Bali. It overlooks the stunning Ayung river valley at Sayan and reminded me of the beautiful Como Shambala Estate further north at Payangan (where my wife and I were married years ago) - and sure enough, it transpired that the owners had been inspired by that Como Shambala. In short, everything about Uma Kallai speaks 'class': the small but very private villas, the breakfast restaurant overlooking the valley, the super-friendly staff (several of whom, apparently, came from Como Shambala). Uma Kallai is on the expensive end, but if you're looking for somewhere special that isn't huge like the Four Seasons nearby, this might be the haven for you. And I forget the name of the massage lady (Nina?) but she is one of the best.

Amazing find! We stayed in the Jala Water room with amazing views! Almost 2:1 staff to guest ratio, and they were all very attentive! Lovely evening turn-down service as well as daily housekeeping and new linens. Very relaxing! We had a couples massage, and they were able to make dinner reservations and car service nightly.

KenyaThere could have been a few more snack and food options. But the town centre isn't too far, and the management team shared some really good recommendations with us to dine out.
A boutique luxury resort with exceptional villas and breathtaking views complemented by a team of amazing staff! The villas are incredible with a heated pool and having your own private steam room is one of the best amenities of facilities i have ever experienced. The views were fantastic for breakfast and we managed to catch a magnificent sunset as well. The staff, particularly Eka and Gusti took care of us really well and prepared amazing cocktails for us as well.

The villas, common areas and gardens are out of this world - beautifully constructed and cared for, down to the smallest details. The staff are all lovely and are so accommodating and really work to make your stay easy and enjoyble. All the food was fantastic and the staff were even kind enough to plate up some food that we got from outside. Cannot rate this stay any higher, it was a true pleasure to stay here and we cannot wait to come back

It was absolutely amazing. We spent a few days of our honeymoon at Uma Kalai and it couldn't have been better!! Everyone is very attentive trying to make it most comfortable for you! The view is spectacular and the place is very beautifully designed. Everything is even more beautiful than on the pictures (also the spa and the gym). At the end we stayed five instead of two nights 😊

AustraliaNothing, everything was superb.
The friendly staff Eka and her team are so accomodating and really go out of their way to make sure the guests are happy and cared for. Everything is amazing the room with the beautiful furnishings, the personal steam room, the private pool which is also a spa. It is so quiet and peaceful. The gym has all brand new equipment and the breakfast every morning was delicious. They even organised an outdoor cinema experience for us under the stars which was so romantic with rose petals, candles and beanbags. It was so much fun and one of the best experiences we have done. I definitely will be back and I highly recommend.

GermanyThere was nothing, that bothered us.
I have been travelling a lot with my wife in the past and this Villa was one of the best accommodations we have experienced so far! The staff impressed us with an excellent service and not a single wish was unfulfilled. Thank you again for the kindness and extra effort you made during our stay. The second fascinating point to mention was the incredible view on the Balinese rice field directly from our terrace. A pool and our own relax area just in front of the apartment with the sunset view was the highlight. The accommodation also offers delicious breakfast, amazing Spa treatments and is generally very well located in Ubud.

AustraliaWe highly recommend this gem of a resort in western Ubud! The resort is composed of about five or six villas nested in a gorgeous garden with a coy pond. We stayed in the Vata (Wind) Villa, a beautiful one bedroom villa with a small backyard, heated plunge pool, outdoor deck with a two-person swing, and garden. The round bedroom has a gorgeous vaulted ceiling of woven rattan and wooden beams. The villa has a large bathroom and very large shower, which doubles as a steam room. Uma Kalai's manager, Eka, was our hostess during the days and went above and beyond to make sure we had everything we needed. Her team coordinated cars for us to get into town, and made arrangements for us to do activities (the sunrise hike to the top of Mount Batur is not to be missed, by the way!). We ate breakfast and sometimes lunch at the hotel - the food was excellent, the homemade jams (watermelon jam, orange marmalade, etc) on gluten free banana flour bread was a nice touch alongside our morning eggs. For sunsets our host, Gusti made us cocktails to sip by the pool overlooking aa valley with aa river, rice paddies and mountains in the background. It was a stunning way to relax, before we headed out for dinner. Uma Kalai also has a gym and a spa, where we had a great massage one day. The resort is about a 10-minute drive from downtown Ubud. It's close enough to easily access restaurants and activities by car or scooter - but removed enough to escape the hustle and bustle of the centre of town. Given the valley view and beautiful gardens the resort feels like it's embedded within nature. One of the best parts of Uma Kalai is the staff who made us feel so relaxed and at home during our stay. We highly recommend the resort and will definitely stay here again when we come back to Ubud.
