Each review score is between 1-10. To get the overall score that you see, we add up all the review scores we’ve received and divide that total by the number of review scores we’ve received. We are currently testing a weighted review system in Malta and Iceland (excluding hotel and vacation rental chains). For properties in these countries, the more recent the review, the bigger the impact on the total review score calculation. In addition, guests can give separate ‘subscores’ in crucial areas, such as location, cleanliness, staff, comfort, facilities, value for money and free Wi-Fi. Note that guests submit their subscores and their overall scores independently, so there’s no direct link between them.
You can review an Accommodation that you booked through our Platform if you stayed there or if you arrived at the property but didn’t actually stay there. To edit a review you’ve already submitted, please contact our Customer Service team.
We have people and automated systems that specialise in detecting fake reviews submitted to our Platform. If we find any, we delete them and, if necessary, take action against whoever is responsible.
Anyone else who spots something suspicious can always report it to our Customer Service team, so our Fraud team can investigate.
Ideally, we would publish every review we receive, whether positive or negative. However, we won’t display any review that includes or refers to (among other things):
To make sure reviews are relevant, we may only accept reviews that are submitted within 3 months of checking out, and we may stop showing reviews once they’re 36 months old – or if the Accommodation has a change of ownership.
An Accommodation may choose to reply to a review.
When you see multiple reviews, the most recent ones will be at the top, subject to a few other factors (what language a review is in, whether it’s just a rating or contains comments as well, etc.). If you like, you can sort and/or filter them (by time of year, review score, etc.).
We sometimes show external review scores from other well-known travel websites. We make it clear when we’ve done this.
These guidelines and standards aim to keep the content on Booking.com relevant and family-friendly without limiting expression of strong opinions. They are also applicable regardless of the sentiment of the comment.
Contributions should be travel related. The most helpful contributions are detailed and help others make better decisions. Please don’t include personal, political, ethical, or religious commentary. Promotional content will be removed and issues concerning Booking.com’s services should be routed to our Customer Service or Accommodation Service teams.
Contributions should be appropriate for a global audience. Please avoid using profanity or attempts to approximate profanity with creative spelling, in any language. Comments and media that include 'hate speech', discriminatory remarks, threats, sexually explicit remarks, violence, and the promotion of illegal activity are not permitted.
All content should be genuine and unique to the guest. Reviews are most valuable when they are original and unbiased. Your contribution should be yours. Booking.com property partners should not post on behalf of guests or offer incentives in exchange for reviews. Attempts to bring down the rating of a competitor by submitting a negative review will not be tolerated.
Respect the privacy of others. Booking.com will make an effort to obscure email addresses, telephone numbers, website addresses, social media accounts, and similar details.

By default, reviews are sorted based on the date of the review and on additional criteria to display the most relevant reviews, including but not limited to: your language, reviews with text, and non-anonymous reviews. Additional sorting options may be available (by type of traveller, by score, etc.).

VietnamThe house was located in corner of a small alley. We can reach it by following the giant chili on the wall. How interesting! As a solo traveler, my room was enough for me. It was cute and warm. I was extremely into the house’s furniture and decoration. The host, Ms.Herni and her helper were friendly and helpful. She also holds cooking class daily so the guests can try various dishes there. I love the fish simbal very much. There was a kitchen and guests are allowed to use freely. Coffee, tea and sugar is already there. You can cook if you want. Feel like home. The location was just 15 minutes walking to Alun-Alun and 5 minutes to Prawirotaman street. I may choose this if I come back here.

SingaporeThe pebbles in the shower area and a section of the hallway.
A very nice and quiet house down a small alley away from the main street. Jalan Prawirotaman is close by where one can find nice eateries. Very friendly owner, Herni, who also conducts cooking class. Guest are welcomed to use the kitchen. (Just need to clean up after use.) On the day of my arrival, I was invited to partake tasty food from the cooking class. Coffee, tea and snacks are made available to guests. Single room is clean and pretty cosy. Bed is comfortable and aircon is really cool. There isn't any problem with wifi connection. Jalan Malioboro, Taman Sari and the Kraton are just a short grab ride away should one do not wish to walk in the heat. Would definitely stay at Villa Sambal if I were to visit Yogyakarta again.

MalaysiaThe water for shower in the big room downstairs (where we stayed for two days) took sometime to get hot. It is not a big problem but it would be better if it is improved.
Big room, clean and very homely. The owner bu Herni is very friendly and generous. She fed us well for lunch and dinner without us having to pay extra a single Rupiah!

BelgiumIt's worth being aware that the rooms are not very sound proof and the call to prayer from the nearby mosque is very loud. For me this was fine, but if you are a light sleeper, this might not be the best place for you.
It's easy to feel very at home here. Herni is a lovely and generous host. The garden is beautiful and calm and there are nice places to sit outside the room. Fresh pomelo from the tree in the garden was an extra treat. The neighourhood was also very pleasant with lots of nice cafes, restaurants and excellent ice cream close by. It was also lovely to be able to borrow a bicycle!

NetherlandsVilla Sambal was the most charming stay during our 2-week trip through Indonesia. Herni is a lovely host who shared fruits from her garden with us over a cup of tea. There are plenty of restaurants in the area, though the guesthouse also has a kitchen with a fridge, microwave, water cooker and such. The bed is comfortable and the mosquito net excellent. Many thanks to the host for this wonderful experience.

NetherlandsLoved every bit.
The host Herni was awesome, made some genuine connections with her and her friends. She went out of her way to help me during my stay in many ways. Her cooking class was also a lot of fun. The room I booked was without AC but the architecture of the house is designed in a way that natural airflow cools all the spaces. Got way more than I expected, especially for the price.

AustraliaHome away from home. Pieter and Herni are lovely hosts who ensure that you have a comfortable stay. My upstairs room was a great size, it felt like a mini apartment. No aircon, but a big fan and being able to open the windows was great. Free coffee, tea and water, great common areas to meet with other people. I would have stayed longer, but unfortunately it was booked out. Definitely will be back when in Yogya.

GermanyOne of the best places I have ever stayed in. Herni and Peter are lovely people, super friendly and helpful. They will make you feel like you are at home, in a nice traditional house and in a perfect location. You will get a full package. There are bicycles you can use during your stay. If you need a Scooter, you can rent it there. If you need anything else, like someone to pick up your laundry or you want to have a massage in your room, just need to ask Herni and she will arrange it. Also before you go somewhere and spend to much money for stuff, like Batik :), you better talk to her for advice first ;). And there is one more thing. Herni's cooking class is definitely a must for everyone, both vegetarien and meat lover, who wants to learn about local cuisine and have a good time and a nice meal. Thanks to Herni and Peter for a great time in Yogya. Absolutely recommended!

Everything was great! I love the Garden and all the exotic plants in the house. Herny is unbelievable nice, every morning she brought me something for breakfast from the market and one day I could eat leftovers from her Cooking Class! She even drove me at midnight to my train and gave me a snackbox for the way! Free coffee, Tea and water and you can use the kitchen. But there are many nice restaurants and bars in the area....also the tourists attractions in walkable distance and tour companies to book the Temples, if you like. Best host ever! Love the house and everything there! Thank you Herni

My stay at Villa Sambal was one of the most enjoyable and pleasant experiences I had in Indonesia. Herni is an amazing host who made me feel at home the moment I arrived and gave me the opportunity to experience local life by inviting me to have breakfast with her sister on a local market. Her recommendations on what to see in the city were spot on, make sure you visit the night market when staying in Jogja on a Saturday. Also, she offers great cooking classes (I did not join a class, but ate some of the dishes they prepared and they tasted great!). The place itself is very lovely as well. Expect a mixture of colonial-style architecture, tropical gardens and western comfort. My room had a toilet, a hot shower with proper pressure and a mosquito net. The kitchen is very well equipped and there is unlimited free water. There are several great local restaurants close by (again, I went to the places Herni recommended, incl. a top notch ice cream shop and a local lunch place). I highly recommend to stay at Villa Sambal and would definitely come back!

GermanyThe house is beautiful and green, surrounded by a lovely garden and lots of plants inside the house. A real gem inside the city. The rooms are spacious and clean. You have lots of nice cafes and restaurants in walking distance just nearby. Because it‘s in a back alley you don’t hear the street at all. But get ready for the sound of the mosque just next to the house - but that‘s part of experiencing Java. ☺️ The best part of staying in Villa Sambal is the beautiful host Herni, such a lovely and kind woman, she made my stay unforgettable! Make sure to join one of her cooking classes, the food is amazing! The kitchen downstairs is also the place for her cooking classes, so you might be lucky to eat her delicious food more than once because it‘s always too much and everybody has to help eat it. 😉 She also took me on a walking tour in the city and the market in the morning and showed me a cat cafe. She made sure I‘d feel like home. I even extended my stay from 5 to 10 days in the end because I didn‘t wanna leave. The turtles living downstairs are also super cute and fun to watch! It was the best place I stayed in Java and I‘d always come back!

FranceMy room looked like it had not been cleaned (dust on floor and furniture) for a while, although sheets and towels were clean. The Mosque is noisy in the morning... but it the same everywhere in the city.
Beautiful house with garden in a practical city center location. Herni was a wonderful host, showing me around the city, and it was great to meet the other residents as well! I would definitely go back there when I go back to Yogjakarta. It was perfect for remote working, wifi works very well. And good for solo travellers, easy to meet people but in a quiet and relaxed atmosphere! I also got free delicious food with the cooking classes. Laundry is easy and super cheap. I felt safe here (solo young female traveller). The house was well decorated, I enjoyed it a lot! There was only a fan in my room but it was not too hot at all.
