Each review score is between 1-10. To get the overall score that you see, we add up all the review scores we’ve received and divide that total by the number of review scores we’ve received. We are currently testing a weighted review system in Malta and Iceland (excluding hotel and vacation rental chains). For properties in these countries, the more recent the review, the bigger the impact on the total review score calculation. In addition, guests can give separate ‘subscores’ in crucial areas, such as location, cleanliness, staff, comfort, facilities, value for money and free Wi-Fi. Note that guests submit their subscores and their overall scores independently, so there’s no direct link between them.
You can review an Accommodation that you booked through our Platform if you stayed there or if you arrived at the property but didn’t actually stay there. To edit a review you’ve already submitted, please contact our Customer Service team.
We have people and automated systems that specialise in detecting fake reviews submitted to our Platform. If we find any, we delete them and, if necessary, take action against whoever is responsible.
Anyone else who spots something suspicious can always report it to our Customer Service team, so our Fraud team can investigate.
Ideally, we would publish every review we receive, whether positive or negative. However, we won’t display any review that includes or refers to (among other things):
To make sure reviews are relevant, we may only accept reviews that are submitted within 3 months of checking out, and we may stop showing reviews once they’re 36 months old – or if the Accommodation has a change of ownership.
An Accommodation may choose to reply to a review.
When you see multiple reviews, the most recent ones will be at the top, subject to a few other factors (what language a review is in, whether it’s just a rating or contains comments as well, etc.). If you like, you can sort and/or filter them (by time of year, review score, etc.).
We sometimes show external review scores from other well-known travel websites. We make it clear when we’ve done this.
These guidelines and standards aim to keep the content on Booking.com relevant and family-friendly without limiting expression of strong opinions. They are also applicable regardless of the sentiment of the comment.
Contributions should be travel related. The most helpful contributions are detailed and help others make better decisions. Please don’t include personal, political, ethical, or religious commentary. Promotional content will be removed and issues concerning Booking.com’s services should be routed to our Customer Service or Accommodation Service teams.
Contributions should be appropriate for a global audience. Please avoid using profanity or attempts to approximate profanity with creative spelling, in any language. Comments and media that include 'hate speech', discriminatory remarks, threats, sexually explicit remarks, violence, and the promotion of illegal activity are not permitted.
All content should be genuine and unique to the guest. Reviews are most valuable when they are original and unbiased. Your contribution should be yours. Booking.com property partners should not post on behalf of guests or offer incentives in exchange for reviews. Attempts to bring down the rating of a competitor by submitting a negative review will not be tolerated.
Respect the privacy of others. Booking.com will make an effort to obscure email addresses, telephone numbers, website addresses, social media accounts, and similar details.
The opinions expressed in contributions are those of Booking.com customers and properties and not of Booking.com. Booking.com does not accept responsibility or liability for any reviews or responses. Booking.com is a distributor (without any obligation to verify) and not a publisher of these comments and responses.
By default, reviews are sorted based on the date of the review and on additional criteria to display the most relevant reviews, including but not limited to: your language, reviews with text, and non-anonymous reviews. Additional sorting options may be available (by type of traveller, by score, etc.).

On first impressions the Thatched Cottage was adequate. Your writer was seduced by the name and number of fair reviews for our three night stay. Following booking, the reality was less than the perceived image. Prior to our arrival “rules” were messaged to us. Rules which seemed onerous in the extreme: “… that the check in is strictly from 7.30-10.00pm and a time is required to manage guest check in. Again a final reminder in relation to housekeeping as previously communicated PLEASE NOTE TAKEAWAY FOOD IS NOT ALLOWED IN BEDROOMS there is an outdoor patio where guests can eat weather permitting. Please note we do NOT have any indoor eating facilities only for breakfast and thus if weather is not suitable to eat outdoors please eat before coming to the bnb” …and…”Payment is on arrival in CASH, your card has only been used to secure the booking.” If the writer was aware that over €600 was required in cash as per the late edict he may have decided upon elsewhere. Greeted on a cold and blustery April evening at about 6:30pm (NB who checks in that late?) on a pathway strewn with dog-poo (there are three dogs) by Caroline (the owner) who directed us to the rear entry. Our allocated first floor room(s)1 was cold and looked tired, although the bathroom was modern. No heat and no remote for the 17inch fixture television. Some items you had to “request”. As for the television I’ve seen bigger screens on mobile phones! The artificial floor was bouncing under my feet and weight. The linen seemed flaccid, a leftover from when Moses played football with the Israelites. Breakfast was strictly from 8:30am once again another rule of the place; and not as lavish as our previous five B&B stays in Ireland. Three nights in Colditz it was not, however having to ask for heating seemed unnecessary on cold April wintery nights. Should heating have been standard?

IrelandUpon arrivals Caroline seemed a bit rude about the payment of the room, but asked if we needed anything to help improve or stay and whatnot. We woke up left the next morning left the room the way we found it. Only when I got home I seen my card had tried to be charged an additional €60 without confronting me. I called an asked why, I was told I hit a water tank outside (I didn’t) Saturday evening/night and she heard the bang (I was caught in cctv) she refused to show me this video footage. Quite disappointing to leave a bad review but I wouldn’t stay again
Dogs seemed friendly

Very friendly owners and the dogs were fabulous! The bedroom was spacious for us (family of 4) and the breakfast was amazing- fresh fruit salad, warm croissants then a fully cooked breakfast to get us through much of the day. Comfortable beds, fabulous shower with great pressure and plenty of hot water. A walk away from the local pub and restaurant or short drive into Galway. Stay here if you want a great night sleep in comfortable surroundings not too far from the busyness of Galway.

FranceThe wifi connection was a bit poor in the room, but this is really a minor issue, except if you want to do remote working or video streaming.

United StatesThe host required a specific arrival time , which we had difficulty providing as we were traveling from another county and the drive took much longer than expected. We could not stop for dinner for fear we would miss our check in time. Greater flexibility for a late arrival would have helped us
We loved staying at the thatched cottage. We had a private bathroom and our family of 5 had plenty of space. There was good water pressure in the shower ! We loved the windows and the views of the surrounding area. We left early in the morning so we missed the breakfast but it sounded wonderful ! The house was excellent. The waves app to us right to the house . Our host wrote out detailed driving directions to Galway / ferry to Inishmoore and gave us good recommendations to find a local grocery store to purchase sandwiches. The host has 2 super friendly dogs.
