The room was a bit too small and too much noise came from a nearby construction site, so we used a white noise machine that we had taken with us, to sleep until late.

The place was clean and the staff, wonderful! Friendly and ever eager to please. Upon arrival we were apologetically informed that although breakfast was included in the price, it consisted of only toasted bread, butter and tea. We didn't care because we don't eat early in the morning, but to our delight 'breakfast' could be requested any time of the day and the staff would cheerfully provide it! Came in really handy if we were hungry and not ready to go out. The location could not have been better. Within the three days we stayed we needed the services of a cell phone company, a courier company, a cobbler, a watch repairer, a fruit seller, a convenience store, a shoe shop, a liquor shop and restaurants. All were within walking distance. Packed leftovers from our restaurant meals were allowed to be stored in the hotel's refrigerator and the staff would willingly heat and serve them up upon request, along with plates and utensils.

We were checking in at 1am and found the entrance from the street but couldn't find the actual entrance - the door to the hotel looked like it was boarded up, couldn't be opened and noone answered when we knocked. We phoned reception and they didn't seem to understand that I was standing outside. It took a while for them to open the door and let them in. There is AC but it doesn't work very well, it was still quite warm. We also had two single beds pushed together rather than a double bed so you fall down the middle in the night. Room was clean but very tatty sheets with holes in and the minifridge was disgusting and musty, I definitely wouldn't have put any food in it.

Very central, 24 hour concierge, comfortable beds and quiet. They let us keep our bags there during the day which was useful.

Nothing in particular! Don't expect major glamour but it will most certainly do the job for a stay in a mad but wonderful city.

Excellent cheap and cheerful hotel in central Mumbai. Very near Grant Road station so easy to get the train south to the Gateway area or north to Bandra. It's not a touristy area but in a sense that adds to it! Real Mumbai. The hotel was clean, staff were friendly, and the free breakfast basic but effective. Shower had hot water and AC worked.

Some people may be bothered by the people hanging out on the steps to the hotel but they always moved politely out of our way. Breakfast was just toast and coffee or tea but enough to get you started.

The room was a clean oasis from the lively neighborhood. It was a good basis for touring Mumbai. Staff are very kind and attentive.

The rooms are clean and the stuff very friendly. The hotel is situated in a less touristy area, which was just fine for me. Plus: you can easily reach the more touristy places like fort or colaba by feet.

I was happy with the hotel as it was, although a member of our group found the main road facing room a bit noisy at night. I stayed in the other room that was facing to the main road. After around 1pm it got quiet, so it didn't bother me but yes, it was a bit noisy before.

The hotel is only few minutes walk from Grant Road station. The manager, Narinder, is one of, if not the nicest person we met in India. He let us check in early into one of the rooms we booked, helped us with direction and anything we needed. 2 of our rooms were very spacious, facing to the main road. The third room was at the back, bit smaller but that room was far from the street noise, so it was very quiet. All the rooms were clean, and had enough space for our belongings. Beds were comfy. Bathrooms were very good, the soap that was provided had a nice scent. The lobby and staircase looked newly renovated, very clean and bright. The complimentary breakfast was simple but great, good start of our day. I also need to mention that the staff in the hotel was very helpful, friendly, we were well looked after. If I find myself in Mumbai again, I would def stay at Empire Hotel.

One of the rooms had a suspended ceiling with panels and as soon as the lights were turned off at night, a loud scuttling, scuffling noise (perhaps rats?) would come from the ceiling. The noise would stop when the lights were turned on again. Disturbed both nights' sleep. The room with the solid ceiling was fine - check your ceiling before staying in the room.

The location is up a narrow staircase and off a busy street, not too far from some of the attractions in the south of Mumbai. We were given two hotel rooms and they were both decently sized with clean ensuite bathrooms. The free breakfast was basic but suited us fine - buttered white bread slices, half of them spread with jam and a choice of tea or coffee. The people at the helpdesk were friendly and helpful.

It's above the shops in a busy street. Our room was the 1st at the top of the stairs. A little man sits out side(I think for security) which seemed a bit odd. But he was very friendly.

Mumbai is an busy city & very big. Accommodation in the centre is very expensive. So value for money wise this place was OK. The staff are very helpful and looked after our bags for the day before we left on the night train. A good location to get to the sites quite quickly.

When we entered the room at first we found that some hairs were on one pillow. We didn't use it..

Staffs were very kind and helpful. The room was comfortable with AC and fan. Hot shower was also comfortable which was so relaxing. They hired the taxi to the airport for us and the driver Pappu ji was very nice. We enjoyed the driving and conversation.

We had the standard room which was right next to the kitchen. It was very loud in the morning when the staff were preparing breakfast. The room was also smaller than we though. Very clean though.
