Each review score is between 1-10. To get the overall score that you see, we add up all the review scores we’ve received and divide that total by the number of review scores we’ve received. We are currently testing a weighted review system in Malta and Iceland (excluding hotel and vacation rental chains). For properties in these countries, the more recent the review, the bigger the impact on the total review score calculation. In addition, guests can give separate ‘subscores’ in crucial areas, such as location, cleanliness, staff, comfort, facilities, value for money and free Wi-Fi. Note that guests submit their subscores and their overall scores independently, so there’s no direct link between them.
You can review an Accommodation that you booked through our Platform if you stayed there or if you arrived at the property but didn’t actually stay there. To edit a review you’ve already submitted, please contact our Customer Service team.
We have people and automated systems that specialise in detecting fake reviews submitted to our Platform. If we find any, we delete them and, if necessary, take action against whoever is responsible.
Anyone else who spots something suspicious can always report it to our Customer Service team, so our Fraud team can investigate.
Ideally, we would publish every review we receive, whether positive or negative. However, we won’t display any review that includes or refers to (among other things):
To make sure reviews are relevant, we may only accept reviews that are submitted within 3 months of checking out, and we may stop showing reviews once they’re 36 months old – or if the Accommodation has a change of ownership.
An Accommodation may choose to reply to a review.
When you see multiple reviews, the most recent ones will be at the top, subject to a few other factors (what language a review is in, whether it’s just a rating or contains comments as well, etc.). If you like, you can sort and/or filter them (by time of year, review score, etc.).
We sometimes show external review scores from other well-known travel websites. We make it clear when we’ve done this.
These guidelines and standards aim to keep the content on Booking.com relevant and family-friendly without limiting expression of strong opinions. They are also applicable regardless of the sentiment of the comment.
Contributions should be travel related. The most helpful contributions are detailed and help others make better decisions. Please don’t include personal, political, ethical, or religious commentary. Promotional content will be removed and issues concerning Booking.com’s services should be routed to our Customer Service or Accommodation Service teams.
Contributions should be appropriate for a global audience. Please avoid using profanity or attempts to approximate profanity with creative spelling, in any language. Comments and media that include 'hate speech', discriminatory remarks, threats, sexually explicit remarks, violence, and the promotion of illegal activity are not permitted.
All content should be genuine and unique to the guest. Reviews are most valuable when they are original and unbiased. Your contribution should be yours. Booking.com property partners should not post on behalf of guests or offer incentives in exchange for reviews. Attempts to bring down the rating of a competitor by submitting a negative review will not be tolerated.
Respect the privacy of others. Booking.com will make an effort to obscure email addresses, telephone numbers, website addresses, social media accounts, and similar details.
The opinions expressed in contributions are those of Booking.com customers and properties and not of Booking.com. Booking.com does not accept responsibility or liability for any reviews or responses. Booking.com is a distributor (without any obligation to verify) and not a publisher of these comments and responses.
By default, reviews are sorted based on the date of the review and on additional criteria to display the most relevant reviews, including but not limited to: your language, reviews with text, and non-anonymous reviews. Additional sorting options may be available (by type of traveller, by score, etc.).

IndiaOverall, while staying at The Taj Mahal Palace in Mumbai, there were a few areas for improvement. The TV in the room was old and didn't work well, and the cleanliness could have been better. Additionally, some of the room equipment felt outdated. Considering the high price paid for a bucket list experience, the value wasn't exceptional. For budget-conscious travellers, it might be advisable to explore other options to avoid potential disappointment. Specifically, opting for a room on a lower floor in the right wing might offer a better view of the Gateway of India compared to the attic-like 6th floor.
I recently had the opportunity to fulfil a long-standing desire by staying at The Taj Mahal Palace in Mumbai, and it certainly lived up to its reputation. As one of the most iconic hotels in the city, dating back to its establishment in 1903, the experience came with a hefty price tag. Yet, the historical significance added a unique charm. While the cost was undeniably steep, I expected impeccable service and luxurious comforts commensurate with the price point. The hotel did not disappoint in this regard, offering a warm welcome and a delightful olfactory experience with its captivating aroma permeating the air throughout the property. The courtyard and pool area provided a tranquil retreat within the bustling city, and the breakfast spread was both satisfying and indulgent. Opting for a club room with an ocean and Gateway of India view seemed like the ultimate luxury, though the reality fell slightly short of expectations. Located on the top floor, the view was decent, albeit obstructed by the room layout. The bed's position meant that to fully appreciate the iconic Gateway of India, one had to stand rather than comfortably recline on the couch or chair, giving it a somewhat attic-like feel. In summary, while The Taj Mahal Palace in Mumbai offered a memorable experience steeped in history and luxury, the premium price didn't always translate seamlessly into every aspect of the stay. However, the exceptional service, delightful ambience, and iconic setting ensured that the experience remained a memorable one.

We loved this hotel, it is very luxurious and opulent. The reception when you arrive is lovely. The room was a good size, we were facing the side of the tower though so you may want to face the swimming pool or front of hotel if you want a nice view. The staff are very helpful and courteous. We had a wonderful meal in the Chinese restaurant one night which was our favourite and the Indian restaurant another night. We had breakfast and lunch round the pool and the setting is so beautiful and lovely to have a swim after a day sightseeing. The pool area is very pretty when lit up at night time. We would highly recommend this hotel and a good place to start a tour from. Be careful walking opposite the hotel, we were stopped a couple of times.

United KingdomThe food available for lunch and dinner in the restaurants included in the "full board" was "limited" and didn't match the quality expected from a leading 5 star hotel. I would have expected much more with regards to choice and quality from such a hotel, in particular regarding local cuisine. To our surprise we found the meals we had on the latter part of our holiday in Goa and also at the JW Marriot (Mumbai airport) to be better.
The attention by the staff is exceptional, the check in was flawless from airport to the room (do take advantage of using their car service to and from the airport, way better than messing about with the taxis). We had a sea view club room in the palace part and it was simply perfect, the house keeping staff were incredible regarding attention to detail. The Spa and fitness centre were excellent.

AustraliaThe breakfast arrangements were a little haphazard- long delays for the harbour lounge. We discovered by chance that we could have virtually the same breakfast at the ground floor restaurant
The (India gate view) room was a dream. There was a large function just below us on the last night, and we were very thoughtfully offered a more quiet room to sleep in. The staff were just wonderful
