Beautifully restored Chettinad mansion. Rooms were very spacious with lovely period furniture. Beautiful old photographs of the owners family are displayed through the property and it adds a unique homely touch and takes us back in time. We tried the vegetarian Chettinad saapadu which was awesome. We took a nice evening walk around the village with Mr. Siva who also gave us tips for sightseeing around the region and even arranged for us to see the owners other mansion in a nearby village. The staff went out of the way to make us comfortable.

Although standard in many hotels, it may be worth noting that anything extra offered is chargeable — such as an extra idli with a meal or a lemon water by the pool; which is fine, although not explained at the time.

The staff were incredible and every single one of them made us feel special and right at home. The building and gardens were immaculately restored, and all the food served was delicious.

We had a wonderful 3 nights stay at Visalam. Very beautiful art deco house : authenticity and charm. Excellent place with a very kind and professional team. Food excellent too : all is local and tasty. We loved to have breakfast in the garden, lunch at the pool and dinner on the terrace. Pool area is very pleasant too. The hotel propose visits and activities, we did the heritage walk, cycling tour and temple tour..all were very nice. It was also very easy to discuss with the other guests, probably because the atmosphere of the house was harmonius. Nothing. The only minor criticism is that it would be helpful to have more sunloungers by the pool. At busy times it can be hard to get one.

It’s absolutely beautiful, the rooms are gorgeous, the food served is delicious, lovely garden and pool. Various activities are available, including interesting tours of the area.

Food was authentic but a little too spicy for our liking, long wait for dinner due to the live/slow cooking took some getting used to.

Staff hospitality, the Tea Kadai and the heritage features of the property. The small Christmas party and the plum cake were a good bonus.

Visalam is home away from home. The property is gorgeous for sure but what makes it even more incredible are the people working at the property. I would like to mention few staff members who made our stay extremely memorable : Suganya, Mohan, Chef Gopal, Valli, Geeta and Shiva. These guys went out of their way to make us comfortable, their warmth, care, keen observation made it all possible. Thank you CGH !!

Fantastic, genuine and warm service. They really do care for their guest. Its an amazing property with character. There is no hotel feel at all. You feel like you are in your own home. The food was excellent. Rooms more than combatable. Very spacious rooms. One night definitely not enough! Even our drivers were taken care of.

Limited Room service. Understandable because of the Property theme. Lighting can be better inside the room.

Traditional and typical Chettinad breakfast. Not a great spread but met our requirements. Taste was delicious and very fast in service.

Very neatly restored house. Staff well versed with local traditions and attractions and respectful. Special mention to Mrs. Kavitha who showed us around and Mr. Siva. Food was also amazing and good value. Great parking facility inside the compound of the house.

Everything was perfect

We loved everything! We stopped in Chettinadu to take a break in between places since we had a long drive and it revealed to be one of the nicest moments of the trip if you want to take a break. The staff was simply amazing and available, but also informed on the heritage of the town and the palace. Service was equally great, the gardens, and pool were dreamy, the room was extremely spacious and extra clean. Personally, I loved the little details like finding good quality soaps, moisturizers and coconut oil at your disposal! Both in the morning and afternoon there was free tea and coffee, also the hotel organizes activities during the day, like a cooking class, visits to the town, etc. You really won't get bored!

The only drawback was the service of food. It was very delayed even though we placed orders much in advance. We travelled with a toddler and it was difficult to get food on time. However the taste and quality of food was amazing. It would be great if the property can work on quicker servicing
