Each review score is between 1-10. To get the overall score that you see, we add up all the review scores we’ve received and divide that total by the number of review scores we’ve received. We are currently testing a weighted review system in Malta and Iceland (excluding hotel and vacation rental chains). For properties in these countries, the more recent the review, the bigger the impact on the total review score calculation. In addition, guests can give separate ‘subscores’ in crucial areas, such as location, cleanliness, staff, comfort, facilities, value for money and free Wi-Fi. Note that guests submit their subscores and their overall scores independently, so there’s no direct link between them.
You can review an Accommodation that you booked through our Platform if you stayed there or if you arrived at the property but didn’t actually stay there. To edit a review you’ve already submitted, please contact our Customer Service team.
We have people and automated systems that specialise in detecting fake reviews submitted to our Platform. If we find any, we delete them and, if necessary, take action against whoever is responsible.
Anyone else who spots something suspicious can always report it to our Customer Service team, so our Fraud team can investigate.
Ideally, we would publish every review we receive, whether positive or negative. However, we won’t display any review that includes or refers to (among other things):
To make sure reviews are relevant, we may only accept reviews that are submitted within 3 months of checking out, and we may stop showing reviews once they’re 36 months old – or if the Accommodation has a change of ownership.
An Accommodation may choose to reply to a review.
When you see multiple reviews, the most recent ones will be at the top, subject to a few other factors (what language a review is in, whether it’s just a rating or contains comments as well, etc.). If you like, you can sort and/or filter them (by time of year, review score, etc.).
We sometimes show external review scores from other well-known travel websites. We make it clear when we’ve done this.
These guidelines and standards aim to keep the content on Booking.com relevant and family-friendly without limiting expression of strong opinions. They are also applicable regardless of the sentiment of the comment.
Contributions should be travel related. The most helpful contributions are detailed and help others make better decisions. Please don’t include personal, political, ethical, or religious commentary. Promotional content will be removed and issues concerning Booking.com’s services should be routed to our Customer Service or Accommodation Service teams.
Contributions should be appropriate for a global audience. Please avoid using profanity or attempts to approximate profanity with creative spelling, in any language. Comments and media that include 'hate speech', discriminatory remarks, threats, sexually explicit remarks, violence, and the promotion of illegal activity are not permitted.
All content should be genuine and unique to the guest. Reviews are most valuable when they are original and unbiased. Your contribution should be yours. Booking.com property partners should not post on behalf of guests or offer incentives in exchange for reviews. Attempts to bring down the rating of a competitor by submitting a negative review will not be tolerated.
Respect the privacy of others. Booking.com will make an effort to obscure email addresses, telephone numbers, website addresses, social media accounts, and similar details.
The opinions expressed in contributions are those of Booking.com customers and properties and not of Booking.com. Booking.com does not accept responsibility or liability for any reviews or responses. Booking.com is a distributor (without any obligation to verify) and not a publisher of these comments and responses.
By default, reviews are sorted based on the date of the review and on additional criteria to display the most relevant reviews, including but not limited to: your language, reviews with text, and non-anonymous reviews. Additional sorting options may be available (by type of traveller, by score, etc.).

AustraliaThe room was not where it was pinned on the map on booking.com and the check in was difficult as the property didn’t respond and was not in the office for office hours. They are cash only and will not hold your bags. The room was okay, no air conditioning and no mosquito net or screens so the room was pretty hot, but they did provide a little fan.
the view of the ocean (train station side) and terrace garden was lovely.

SpainThe parking in the village is a real problem. Your hotel etc can be very far away from parking. It is very hilly. In your room you can hear very clear what people talk in the other room. The garden needs pruning etc. No WIFI. The tv is a joke.
The room charming. There was a narrow terrass where you can sit in the evening and look out on the Med. The personell was very helpful and arranged a parking.

AustraliaThe property was shared amongst a number of parties. The walls are very thin so was woken a number of times to loud voices and other activities. No rubbish bins to put teabags or food scraps. no bath mat or hairdryer provided. On arrival the lift did not work and the young assistant carried most of the bags up a huge number of stairs. The location is pretty but I had requested something lower down from the top of the hill (which I was told he had) but poor communication and not understanding ended up in my being told off about my expectations.
pretty outlook.

United KingdomPersonally I would have preferred if the front gate locked just as a sole female traveller it would have made me feel safer. Apart from that I really enjoyed my stay and think some of the reviews are a little harsh.
It has an excellent view! You can sit out on the balcony and have a drink overlooking the sea. Some review saying it is a far walk but I disagree. It is some steps and an elevator but if you go to Cinque Terre you are going to expect that! The bedroom was clean and very comfy. The men at reception were very helpful with check in and out.

PortugalElectricity didn’t work in various places and the fact that we couldn’t lock the door of the house made us feel unsafe. Also, wouldn’t recommend this property for older people/ people with some kind of physical disability, as it can only be reached after a lot (!!!!) of stairs. (But the view is worth it)
The property had an amazing view and the hosts were really nice.

IsraelIn our 50 years of extensive worldwide travel, this was by far the worst. “Check in” is a tiny scruffy shop in downtown while the room is up a very steep hill reachable only by foot . The whole town is inaccessible by car so “by foot” is literally by foot. Luggage is out of the question so the only use of this room (broken toilet!) is for under-50 fit climbers who are willing to pay almost 200 Euros for a camping experience complete with a super aggressive grumpy “Receptionist” whose only reaction to complaint is to complain about ungrateful customers. The place should simply be banned from Booking.com. And no, he did not give me a receipt for cash payment, so I can only hope that my credit card is not raided.Pure old world tourist trap horror that should be banned from Booking.com.

FinlandShould be much cleaner. Should be mentioned about the noise.
The location was excellent in that sence that it was near the railwaystation. Othetwise absolutely bad: nois Late in the evening and early in the morning, a bus stop right in front of the room. Hardly possible to sleep well. The floor of the room and the kitchen utilities were dirty.

United StatesI get this town is built up, but you have to take the town elevator up to the second level of the town, so it’s very high into the village, this gives a great view, but a steep walk from town and would be difficult to lug your bags around and up to your space. I felt like the map misplaced the unit and misrepresented how far away it was from town. The advertisement on Booking.com shows many different rooms, not the room you are booking so it felt like false advertising. When they walked me to my room at checkin, I felt like I was staying in an old, dilapidated shed. It’s larger than a shed, as it was two rooms with three beds, but I am only 5’4” and you couldn’t be much taller than this to stay here, there was a room with a kitchen, but none of the electricity worked in that room and I had to crawl under an over grown tree to get to my door. The bathroom is also old and barely drains water in the shower: if two people were to shower it would flood the bedroom because the shower isn’t in a tub, it’s just a shower faucet that sprayed direct onto the bathroom floor. Additionally, I woke up all night to rodents running throughout the walls of the unit. There were holes in the walls as well, so I was scared their germs could come through or the rodents themselves could get in. Lastly, I thought the other review’s exaggerated the check in window, but they are very strict on this. I showed up at 8pm, 20:00, because that is when my train arrived without anyone to check me in. This feels very unreasonable and I would find a different company who is willing to accommodate you. The other two bedroom units looked a bit more updated from first glance as I walked by them, so perhaps the one bedroom units are just kept as back up.
From the shared patio, which is not off a private patio, the view is great. Out of the windows of the unit, you look into trees and other building because the one bedroom unit seemed like an afterthought.

GermanyThe staff, except the guy doing his summer job there, was not polite starting with the first message. Then the property is like a jungle and it was always a struggle to get to the garden hut, which we got as a room. The hut was not really clean, only half of the electricity in it worked and the ceiling was partially coming off. One reason for that are probably the rodents running in the ceiling right over our heads. As visible, they have also partially made there way through this ceiling.
The view from the upper balcony was good as well as the connecting to the train station.

LuxembourgThe room is not at all maintained atleast in which we stayed. We paid 250 euros for 2 nights but in room except a bed and fridge nothing else is useful. The room was kept unclean, the toilet was common and ok. The fan was there but no air in 30 degree temperature. I would recommend to stay in la spezia 5 mins from rio.
The location of the house is very good. It is completely in nature. The hiking route to visit Manarola or to the top of the hill is just next to it. City centre of Riomaggiore is 10 mins by walk.
