Each review score is between 1-10. To get the overall score that you see, we add up all the review scores we’ve received and divide that total by the number of review scores we’ve received. We are currently testing a weighted review system in Malta and Iceland (excluding hotel and vacation rental chains). For properties in these countries, the more recent the review, the bigger the impact on the total review score calculation. In addition, guests can give separate ‘subscores’ in crucial areas, such as location, cleanliness, staff, comfort, facilities, value for money and free Wi-Fi. Note that guests submit their subscores and their overall scores independently, so there’s no direct link between them.
You can review an Accommodation that you booked through our Platform if you stayed there or if you arrived at the property but didn’t actually stay there. To edit a review you’ve already submitted, please contact our Customer Service team.
We have people and automated systems that specialise in detecting fake reviews submitted to our Platform. If we find any, we delete them and, if necessary, take action against whoever is responsible.
Anyone else who spots something suspicious can always report it to our Customer Service team, so our Fraud team can investigate.
Ideally, we would publish every review we receive, whether positive or negative. However, we won’t display any review that includes or refers to (among other things):
To make sure reviews are relevant, we may only accept reviews that are submitted within 3 months of checking out, and we may stop showing reviews once they’re 36 months old – or if the Accommodation has a change of ownership.
An Accommodation may choose to reply to a review.
When you see multiple reviews, the most recent ones will be at the top, subject to a few other factors (what language a review is in, whether it’s just a rating or contains comments as well, etc.). If you like, you can sort and/or filter them (by time of year, review score, etc.).
We sometimes show external review scores from other well-known travel websites. We make it clear when we’ve done this.
These guidelines and standards aim to keep the content on Booking.com relevant and family-friendly without limiting expression of strong opinions. They are also applicable regardless of the sentiment of the comment.
Contributions should be travel related. The most helpful contributions are detailed and help others make better decisions. Please don’t include personal, political, ethical, or religious commentary. Promotional content will be removed and issues concerning Booking.com’s services should be routed to our Customer Service or Accommodation Service teams.
Contributions should be appropriate for a global audience. Please avoid using profanity or attempts to approximate profanity with creative spelling, in any language. Comments and media that include 'hate speech', discriminatory remarks, threats, sexually explicit remarks, violence, and the promotion of illegal activity are not permitted.
All content should be genuine and unique to the guest. Reviews are most valuable when they are original and unbiased. Your contribution should be yours. Booking.com property partners should not post on behalf of guests or offer incentives in exchange for reviews. Attempts to bring down the rating of a competitor by submitting a negative review will not be tolerated.
Respect the privacy of others. Booking.com will make an effort to obscure email addresses, telephone numbers, website addresses, social media accounts, and similar details.
The opinions expressed in contributions are those of Booking.com customers and properties and not of Booking.com. Booking.com does not accept responsibility or liability for any reviews or responses. Booking.com is a distributor (without any obligation to verify) and not a publisher of these comments and responses.
By default, reviews are sorted based on the date of the review and on additional criteria to display the most relevant reviews, including but not limited to: your language, reviews with text, and non-anonymous reviews. Additional sorting options may be available (by type of traveller, by score, etc.).

SwedenNothing - although it is a bit costly, it is worth it.
Extraordinary in every way! In itself a truly memorable experience. Historic yet beatifully refurbished building in a modern and inspiring design in every detail. Fabulous views from its position on a hill overlooking the rooftoops of Bergamos old town. The newly laid out garden has a stunning design with a renaissance feel to it, yet at the same time modern. It is a garden you want to sit in and relax, just move around between the different spots and levels of the large and terraced garden. The staff are relaxed, confident and attentive - making you feel as an unique guest. And the breakfeast, served in the garden is individualized to your taste and worth at least an hours sitting - the best hotel breakfast we have ever had. And last but not least there is also a restaurant, with lunch and dinner servings, were you sit in the lower terrace, magnificantly lit up when darkness fell. The food was excellent as well as the staff. We had one of the three different tasting menues including 5 dishes, all of which surprized us in presentation and taste. We felt so priviliged during our stay at Relais San Viligo - it is worth a detour in itself!

We had an absolutely amazing time staying in Relais San Vigilio al Castello. The interior décor of the Castello and its immediate surroundings makes resting there even better. Great city view from the window of the room. Very good breakfast served on elegant tableware. Hotel employees were very helpful.

United StatesPhoto directions for how to arrive at the hotel were good - would be better to also include written instructions. Driving solo and trying to look at an enlarged photo was challenging at times. Also - no directions were given for how to leave the property so narrow / one-way roads could be avoided. It is not intuitive. Last item - no information was provided before arrival that the funicular from outside the hotel is out of operation at present time. This information ahead of the stay would have altered my agenda for the visit. Instead, I did not have time to visit Citta Alta because I did not have time for the walk down and back up to the hotel parking area.
Staff, food and beverage, atmosphere, location / setting all wonderful!

LuxembourgIts a long drive around Bergamo, but really worth while when you get there. For people with mobility problems could be an issue as you have to go up a big flight of stairs to get to the hotel door. no issue for us though.

We stayed on December 25 which is a difficult day for dinner in Italy. Thanks to Gianluigi who found us a perfect dinner location we actually went to Bergamo. If not for him we would not have gone. The hotel itself is very beautiful. The room was nice and breakfast delicious.

SpainIn winter, for a family, there is no point in staying there. Not the property's fault though. It is just inconvenient and being dark the attractiveness of the views is lost. At half the price in off-season it is simply better value to stay closer to the city. For example, all the restaurants close-by are "upscale" although there is their pizzeria that can work for children if you are up to paying the 16 euros coperto tax for a family of 2x2
It is a cozy place. Breakfasts are wonderful. There are two handy free parking lots besides the property but with limited places. The personnel were very helpful. For example, one day it rained and we could make use of several umbrellas to visit the city.

4th time I have stayed at The Relais San Vigilio. Such a wonderful hotel in a peaceful location at the top of the mountain away from the hoards of tourist with the best views of Bergamo. Superb restaurant 2 minutes walk from them, the Baretto San Vigilio is a must and with easy access to the rest of the city using the funicular railway
