Each review score is between 1-10. To get the overall score that you see, we add up all the review scores we’ve received and divide that total by the number of review scores we’ve received. We are currently testing a weighted review system in Malta and Iceland (excluding hotel and vacation rental chains). For properties in these countries, the more recent the review, the bigger the impact on the total review score calculation. In addition, guests can give separate ‘subscores’ in crucial areas, such as location, cleanliness, staff, comfort, facilities, value for money and free Wi-Fi. Note that guests submit their subscores and their overall scores independently, so there’s no direct link between them.
You can review an Accommodation that you booked through our Platform if you stayed there or if you arrived at the property but didn’t actually stay there. To edit a review you’ve already submitted, please contact our Customer Service team.
We have people and automated systems that specialise in detecting fake reviews submitted to our Platform. If we find any, we delete them and, if necessary, take action against whoever is responsible.
Anyone else who spots something suspicious can always report it to our Customer Service team, so our Fraud team can investigate.
Ideally, we would publish every review we receive, whether positive or negative. However, we won’t display any review that includes or refers to (among other things):
To make sure reviews are relevant, we may only accept reviews that are submitted within 3 months of checking out, and we may stop showing reviews once they’re 36 months old – or if the Accommodation has a change of ownership.
An Accommodation may choose to reply to a review.
When you see multiple reviews, the most recent ones will be at the top, subject to a few other factors (what language a review is in, whether it’s just a rating or contains comments as well, etc.). If you like, you can sort and/or filter them (by time of year, review score, etc.).
We sometimes show external review scores from other well-known travel websites. We make it clear when we’ve done this.
These guidelines and standards aim to keep the content on Booking.com relevant and family-friendly without limiting expression of strong opinions. They are also applicable regardless of the sentiment of the comment.
Contributions should be travel related. The most helpful contributions are detailed and help others make better decisions. Please don’t include personal, political, ethical, or religious commentary. Promotional content will be removed and issues concerning Booking.com’s services should be routed to our Customer Service or Accommodation Service teams.
Contributions should be appropriate for a global audience. Please avoid using profanity or attempts to approximate profanity with creative spelling, in any language. Comments and media that include 'hate speech', discriminatory remarks, threats, sexually explicit remarks, violence, and the promotion of illegal activity are not permitted.
All content should be genuine and unique to the guest. Reviews are most valuable when they are original and unbiased. Your contribution should be yours. Booking.com property partners should not post on behalf of guests or offer incentives in exchange for reviews. Attempts to bring down the rating of a competitor by submitting a negative review will not be tolerated.
Respect the privacy of others. Booking.com will make an effort to obscure email addresses, telephone numbers, website addresses, social media accounts, and similar details.
The opinions expressed in contributions are those of Booking.com customers and properties and not of Booking.com. Booking.com does not accept responsibility or liability for any reviews or responses. Booking.com is a distributor (without any obligation to verify) and not a publisher of these comments and responses.
By default, reviews are sorted based on the date of the review and on additional criteria to display the most relevant reviews, including but not limited to: your language, reviews with text, and non-anonymous reviews. Additional sorting options may be available (by type of traveller, by score, etc.).

Nice hotel with interesting design. Attentive and caring staff. The room is quite standard, but it has everything you need. Delicious tea in the room and pleasant tea ceremonies at the reception

NetherlandsFor European standards, the mattress was quite hard. Upon request, the hotel staff immediately provided me with a mattress topper which made the bed a little bit more comfortable. The hotel is located a 10-15 minute walk from the subway and train station, which is not bad but something to keep in mind.
Trendy and cozy tea-themed hotel with very clean and modern rooms in a quiet and safe neighborhood. The bathroom is provided with a bathtub and is stocked with tea-themed amenities, which were such luxuries after walking a lot in Tokyo! The (English speaking) staff was very friendly and helpful. Good Japanese and Western breakfast buffet with the ground floor turning into a lunch café after breakfast for guests and visitors. Free tea service for guests on the 1st floor. 7/11 with ATM across the street and (view of) the Tokyo Tower within walking distance.

United Statesnot many vegetarian options for breakfast, the menu that i was told would be available wasn't what was actually on the spread. it's also a little far from the station (about a 15 minute walk) but it's a nice walk! just difficult to make with luggage
a little small but it was fine for me as a solo traveler, staff were so friendly!

United StatesWould have loved to be notified when our room was ready (rather than just "come back at 3pm"), but that's a small thing!
Room was comfortable and spacious for Tokyo. Check-in was easy and welcoming, and we enjoyed the free tea service. Lighting in the room was flexible and warm.

IrelandI didn't realise the onsite dining was only open in the day. Although the location is heaving with eateries these are often very busy and require prebooking. So it was disappointing not to have the hotel to fall back on. The breakfast although good quality in each item provided wasn't as expansive as the pictures made it look. After 1 morning we ate out for the same money. Lastly although overall I thought the room was great I don't appreciate the sink being I the room when there was room for it I the bathroom. I don't think it's hygienic to need to leave the bathroom to wash your hands. This seems to be a bit of a hotel style fad rather than space necessity.
Smart modern interiors. Clever layout of the bedrooms to handle the normal restrictions of Japanese hotel room size. Good location with nearby attractions, parks and train stations. Nice touches in the room with high quality toiletries, teas and coffee, cups, pyjamas big enough for westerners.

United KingdomWe found the bed and pillows very hard. We also had a problem with the AC and the room was very hot, as such we didn’t sleep too well
The reception area is beautiful and calm. They serve tea which is so relaxing, it feels like being in a spa For the price point in Tokyo it’s excellent.

United KingdomNothing.
It was beautifully stylish, everything we could possibly need was provided for and the staff were excellent - we loved it. Everything was spotless, the breakfast was a good standard and varied the two days we were there. The area was brilliant too - just a ten minute walk to Shimbashi station, with dozens of izakayas and restaurants on the way. Couldn’t fault it.

United StatesThe bed was hard. Beds are firm in Japan but Hotel 1899 was the hardest.
The hotel is modern and well maintained. Although the room was on the small side and the placement of the bed a little awkward, my husband and I were comfortable and content during our 5 night stay. The room was generously stocked with toiletries and accoutrements which were replaced daily. I can’t say enough about the staff. They were incredibly kind and helpful. The breakfast/brunch was abundant. Although there were food items I couldn’t bring myself to eat first thing in the morning (fish and salad), I was able to fill my plate with a hearty breakfast. The checkin area (second floor) also has a tea bar where you can enjoy a cup of tea - such a pleasant experience. I would definitely stay here again. I would also recommend this hotel for first time visitors to Tokyo/Japan. Besides the breakfast, there’s a 7/11 close by which is well stocked with prepared foods. We found both sources convenient as we got acclimated to our new environment and dealt with jet lag. Close to Shimbashi Station and Tokyo Tower.
