Each review score is between 1-10. To get the overall score that you see, we add up all the review scores we’ve received and divide that total by the number of review scores we’ve received. We are currently testing a weighted review system in Malta and Iceland (excluding hotel and vacation rental chains). For properties in these countries, the more recent the review, the bigger the impact on the total review score calculation. In addition, guests can give separate ‘subscores’ in crucial areas, such as location, cleanliness, staff, comfort, facilities, value for money and free Wi-Fi. Note that guests submit their subscores and their overall scores independently, so there’s no direct link between them.
You can review an Accommodation that you booked through our Platform if you stayed there or if you arrived at the property but didn’t actually stay there. To edit a review you’ve already submitted, please contact our Customer Service team.
We have people and automated systems that specialise in detecting fake reviews submitted to our Platform. If we find any, we delete them and, if necessary, take action against whoever is responsible.
Anyone else who spots something suspicious can always report it to our Customer Service team, so our Fraud team can investigate.
Ideally, we would publish every review we receive, whether positive or negative. However, we won’t display any review that includes or refers to (among other things):
To make sure reviews are relevant, we may only accept reviews that are submitted within 3 months of checking out, and we may stop showing reviews once they’re 36 months old – or if the Accommodation has a change of ownership.
An Accommodation may choose to reply to a review.
When you see multiple reviews, the most recent ones will be at the top, subject to a few other factors (what language a review is in, whether it’s just a rating or contains comments as well, etc.). If you like, you can sort and/or filter them (by time of year, review score, etc.).
We sometimes show external review scores from other well-known travel websites. We make it clear when we’ve done this.
These guidelines and standards aim to keep the content on Booking.com relevant and family-friendly without limiting expression of strong opinions. They are also applicable regardless of the sentiment of the comment.
Contributions should be travel related. The most helpful contributions are detailed and help others make better decisions. Please don’t include personal, political, ethical, or religious commentary. Promotional content will be removed and issues concerning Booking.com’s services should be routed to our Customer Service or Accommodation Service teams.
Contributions should be appropriate for a global audience. Please avoid using profanity or attempts to approximate profanity with creative spelling, in any language. Comments and media that include 'hate speech', discriminatory remarks, threats, sexually explicit remarks, violence, and the promotion of illegal activity are not permitted.
All content should be genuine and unique to the guest. Reviews are most valuable when they are original and unbiased. Your contribution should be yours. Booking.com property partners should not post on behalf of guests or offer incentives in exchange for reviews. Attempts to bring down the rating of a competitor by submitting a negative review will not be tolerated.
Respect the privacy of others. Booking.com will make an effort to obscure email addresses, telephone numbers, website addresses, social media accounts, and similar details.
The opinions expressed in contributions are those of Booking.com customers and properties and not of Booking.com. Booking.com does not accept responsibility or liability for any reviews or responses. Booking.com is a distributor (without any obligation to verify) and not a publisher of these comments and responses.
By default, reviews are sorted based on the date of the review and on additional criteria to display the most relevant reviews, including but not limited to: your language, reviews with text, and non-anonymous reviews. Additional sorting options may be available (by type of traveller, by score, etc.).

United StatesShower system is pretty weird. All showers are together in a room in the basement where you have to strip down together. Cleaning staff is pretty horrible, in my opinion. If I managed this hostel, I would get rid of the entire cleaning staff and start fresh. From the (female) cleaning staff not leaving the men’s showers while men are taking showers (meaning I had to ask her to leave while I was dressing and undressing), to the walls and floors being covered in grime, they really don’t do a good job. The soap bottle in the bathroom was empty the entire time I was there, toilet paper was on the floor of the toilet, and the toilet in the shared space looked like a crime scene. If this hostel fixed these issues, it would be a really good place to stay.
Location is fantastic. Price is very fair. I upgraded from the economy room to the luxury room and was actually paying less in the luxury room. Front desk staff was helpful and friendly. Quick walk to subway station. Balcony in common area on 8th floor was fantastic.

FranceBed is not very comfortable after a day of walking in the city. The cleaning was not very done but it is ok for a short stay.
Location and price were great. For this price, you can’t expect a perfect hotel, so you have to be an adaptative person who does not need lots of comfort.

NetherlandsFacilities and cleanliness could've been better. The beds are quite thin and hard, also the common room on the 9th floor has a pretty cold atmosphere it's not that great for meeting people or relaxing. Lastly the lockers were pretty small so it's not the best for keeping all your belongings safe.
The staff was very friendly and helpful, the location was good as well.

Romania- Biggest problem is cleanliness. And trust me I am absolutely not the type of person to complain about this. But I am positive that the bathroom of the mixed dormitory was NOT cleaned once, not even once during the 5 nights we spent there. There was dust and hair and dirt in every corner. I stained the inside of a sink with foundation one day and I couldn’t wash it away bcs I did not have a sponge. That stain is probably still there and most probably will persist for eternity. The little kitchen on the top floor had some chopsticks and plates and glasses, but it was just too gross to use because the detergent was diluted with water and it was useless- you can’t wash your plate properly so it stays sticky. Girls bathroom was clean tho, and you have a space to leave your stuff and change before hopping in the shower. For the boys’ shower you either get creative on how to shower with your boxers in the cabin or you don’t mind presenting yourself nude in the common men bathroom hallway. -This is a place where you have to use your imagination a lot in order to only see its potential. We suspect it was an old office building that was reinterpreted as a hostel. Because everything could’ve been so nice but it wasn’t, actually. They just did their best with what it was.
- Friendly personnel - Big beds- my bf and I booked two beds (obvi) but ended up sleeping together in the same capsule because it was big enough for both. -Clean sheets - Possibility to leave baggage after check-out - International crowd- you can end up making friends if you don’t mind introducing yourself -It is literally 1 min away from the metro station. You still have to take the metro for two stations to get to the central area of Shinjuku otherwise it’s a 40 mins walk so ask yourself, if you already hop in the metro isn’t it worth booking something nicer but further for the same price range? -It is cheap/ the cheapest option for Shinjuku, but then again you do have to take the metro to get to the tourist area, so what’s the point? For the same price we got a nice 4 star hotel room in Kyoto so I think prices are a bit higher just because of the position.

SpainBathrooms were dirty and smelly. Really tiny lockers where you can only fit a hand bag. There is nobody at the reception during the night so if you have a problem, fix it yourself or wait until the morning. We had some noisy and annoying people in our dorm but couldnt make anything because there was nobody at the reception. Seems there were some long term guests who didnt care about the rest. Plug in the cabin was not very convenient as its quite high
The staff was very nice and the bed was confy

ChinaFacilities: Outdated. This is the only hostel I stayed in Japan that doesn't equip the automated toliet but that's certainly not a big deal. The light in the bunk was dim. The most important problem was the shower room. 1. The shower room was badly maintain and not really clean. 2. There're only 4 shower rooms for each gender but there're 5 stories of bunks in this hostel. 3. In normal hostels, the would be a clothes changing room in the showerroom but it's not the case here. Which means that YOU WILL MEET NUDE GUYS in the public or YOU WILL BE NUDE APPERANCE in the public (but this applies to same-gender scenarios though). But this can be avoided in manage your shower time. Some people mentioned the bunk hard but I thought the bed was just okayish--never brought problems for me. Overall, the hostel isn't that bad considering the price and the pricey Tokyo. But those decades old facilities do need some modern maintanence.
Location: Quite good, adjacent to metro station, with several restaurants around. Located in the residential area (I guess so). Staff: Nice, friendly. By the way the common room was nice. You can either stay their doing your own business, chat with someone else, or cook food.

ItalyWhen the night comes and no workers are in the structure, many guest forget the importance of "silence rules". In two nights I experienced telephone calls, somebody eating chips, and drunk guests speaking loud after 2am. Another very negative aspect is the metal wardrobe which makes noises every time it is opened and closed with the key (especially considering that it is very close to the beds...) The kitchen is also a disaster (a few old cutlery, 4 rigid plastic Ikea plates that can't even be degreased with hot water because only cold water comes out of the taps).
The reception team is wonderful- I would go back just to talk to them because with their willingness to talk about Japan they made me understand they really appreciate what they do! I stayed in the mixed dormitory. The bed is comfortable and really spacious. General cleanliness is good, although many people enter and exit the bathrooms with the wrong flip flops.

BrazilThe shower room was filthy, unfortunately. There was mold and lime on the walls, the shower drains were clogged and the water started to pool up. The amenities (shampoo and body soap) are low quality and there's no conditioner.
Very friendly and welcoming staff at the reception. The rooms were fairly clean, the beds were spacious and comfy (but not much). The location is very good! About 2min walk away from the nearest subway station. There are convenience stores, restaurants and other stores around to explore.
