Each review score is between 1-10. To get the overall score that you see, we add up all the review scores we’ve received and divide that total by the number of review scores we’ve received. We are currently testing a weighted review system in Malta and Iceland (excluding hotel and vacation rental chains). For properties in these countries, the more recent the review, the bigger the impact on the total review score calculation. In addition, guests can give separate ‘subscores’ in crucial areas, such as location, cleanliness, staff, comfort, facilities, value for money and free Wi-Fi. Note that guests submit their subscores and their overall scores independently, so there’s no direct link between them.
You can review an Accommodation that you booked through our Platform if you stayed there or if you arrived at the property but didn’t actually stay there. To edit a review you’ve already submitted, please contact our Customer Service team.
We have people and automated systems that specialise in detecting fake reviews submitted to our Platform. If we find any, we delete them and, if necessary, take action against whoever is responsible.
Anyone else who spots something suspicious can always report it to our Customer Service team, so our Fraud team can investigate.
Ideally, we would publish every review we receive, whether positive or negative. However, we won’t display any review that includes or refers to (among other things):
To make sure reviews are relevant, we may only accept reviews that are submitted within 3 months of checking out, and we may stop showing reviews once they’re 36 months old – or if the Accommodation has a change of ownership.
An Accommodation may choose to reply to a review.
When you see multiple reviews, the most recent ones will be at the top, subject to a few other factors (what language a review is in, whether it’s just a rating or contains comments as well, etc.). If you like, you can sort and/or filter them (by time of year, review score, etc.).
We sometimes show external review scores from other well-known travel websites. We make it clear when we’ve done this.
These guidelines and standards aim to keep the content on Booking.com relevant and family-friendly without limiting expression of strong opinions. They are also applicable regardless of the sentiment of the comment.
Contributions should be travel related. The most helpful contributions are detailed and help others make better decisions. Please don’t include personal, political, ethical, or religious commentary. Promotional content will be removed and issues concerning Booking.com’s services should be routed to our Customer Service or Accommodation Service teams.
Contributions should be appropriate for a global audience. Please avoid using profanity or attempts to approximate profanity with creative spelling, in any language. Comments and media that include 'hate speech', discriminatory remarks, threats, sexually explicit remarks, violence, and the promotion of illegal activity are not permitted.
All content should be genuine and unique to the guest. Reviews are most valuable when they are original and unbiased. Your contribution should be yours. Booking.com property partners should not post on behalf of guests or offer incentives in exchange for reviews. Attempts to bring down the rating of a competitor by submitting a negative review will not be tolerated.
Respect the privacy of others. Booking.com will make an effort to obscure email addresses, telephone numbers, website addresses, social media accounts, and similar details.
The opinions expressed in contributions are those of Booking.com customers and properties and not of Booking.com. Booking.com does not accept responsibility or liability for any reviews or responses. Booking.com is a distributor (without any obligation to verify) and not a publisher of these comments and responses.
By default, reviews are sorted based on the date of the review and on additional criteria to display the most relevant reviews, including but not limited to: your language, reviews with text, and non-anonymous reviews. Additional sorting options may be available (by type of traveller, by score, etc.).

AustraliaThe accommodation is rather dated and the rooms could do with modernizing and freshening up. However, the rooms did contain all the facilities that we needed during our stay.
Our stay included dinner and breakfast and the meals were fantastic and exceeded our expectations. The Onsen at the property was also a bonus.

ThailandNothing really. Booking.com booking system. I thought I was paying one price but turned out double. Made it expensive but that doesn't take anything away from the hotel.
Great Staff. Great experience in the hotel from coming on and leaving the shoes at the front door where slipper awaited, to the food, the Onsen, and just the whole vibe. Bus stop back to get everywhere was right outside the hotel. Provided Japanese robes for wearing around hotel, to food, and to the spa etc. Hosts were very accommodating. We arrived in the snow season, and they provided a lift in their 7-seat car to the nearest cultural village on the day we arrived and the following day. Booked breakfast and evening meal. Both were really great experiences of fresh cooked food, comprising of about 7 different small courses.

United KingdomGreat staff and traditional Japanese atmosphere, the breakfast and dinner were traditional Japanese style with a wonderful spread of foods. The host was extremely friendly and helpful in getting me to the Shirakawa-go village and explaining the area. Also, even though I was late to check in, they still had dinner prepared for me. There is also an onsen you can use, and the views are amazing from this place. The Kotatsu in my room was so beautiful and addictive you didn't want to leave.

United StatesWe came by bus, though we had planned our trip by rent-a-car (long story). While bus service is reliable, you are stuck with the existing schedule which left us at a couple of site for a bot too long. If you have a car, no worries, the location is great.
The room and facilities were very nice in the Japanese style, futons with quilts for sleeping. Best of all was the heating table with skirts and low chairs. Get your legs underneath that and stay awhile! We had a meal plan, breakfast and dinner. The menu was fixed, no choices, but the food, also Japanese, was varied and excellent. The Onsen was also very nice, clean, hot, just what you needed after a day of sightseeing in the snow.

SingaporeOur pre-stay inquiry was very slow. After waited 5 days and sending in same questions, first in English, then in google translated Japanese, still no reply. Only after we inquired about cancellation, then the response came. The response are very detailed, though.
Nostalgic and good room size. Separate dining on the same floor. Very traditional set up. It’s just us that we have knee issues, making getting up from Japanese seats challenging. If there’s a small table with normal height chair like another Ryokan we stayed with, would have been perfect. The lady who served us throughout the stay was helpful and friendly. When we were trying to locate the hotel after alighting the bus, she came out to receive us. By the way, the buses to and from Shirakawa-go stops right in front of the hotel.

We love the food! There was so much and the quality was good. Also, the bus stop was just outside the property, making it easy to take public transport there. We were able to visit Shirakawa-go and Suganuma World Heritage sites.

PhilippinesI hope that the hotel can consider offering dinner options for its guests. The nearest restaurant that opens at night is considerably distant and walking there could be challenging due to inadequate lighting. Providing an on-site dinner service would not only enhance the convenience for guests but also contribute to an even more enjoyable and secure stay.
The location lived up to its description, offering a tranquil and serene atmosphere surrounded by breathtaking scenery. The opportunity to unwind amidst such beautiful landscapes truly made our stay memorable.

United KingdomIt was the most beautiful Japanese experience during my first week in Japan. The food was very tasty each and every time. The room was so quiet and warm, we slept very well. The view on the mountains was breathtaking. I loved the onsen experience. In the first day we saw the Gasho house museum just across the road from the hotel, and on the second day took the bus, which stops just outside the hotel, to Shirakawa-go. It was perfect experience.

CanadaIf you are looking for a genuine Japanese experience, there is nothing not to like.
Dinner & breakfast were included with our Japanese-style room and both were excellent. The couple who run the ryokan were friendly & helpful. Great location to be able to access the Gassho villages of Ainokura and Suganuma without a car - the local bus stop is directly outside the ryokan. It is also opposite the oldest Gassho house (300 years); it is open to the public and you can climb up to the 5th floor.
