Each review score is between 1-10. To get the overall score that you see, we add up all the review scores we’ve received and divide that total by the number of review scores we’ve received. We are currently testing a weighted review system in Malta and Iceland (excluding hotel and vacation rental chains). For properties in these countries, the more recent the review, the bigger the impact on the total review score calculation. In addition, guests can give separate ‘subscores’ in crucial areas, such as location, cleanliness, staff, comfort, facilities, value for money and free Wi-Fi. Note that guests submit their subscores and their overall scores independently, so there’s no direct link between them.
You can review an Accommodation that you booked through our Platform if you stayed there or if you arrived at the property but didn’t actually stay there. To edit a review you’ve already submitted, please contact our Customer Service team.
We have people and automated systems that specialise in detecting fake reviews submitted to our Platform. If we find any, we delete them and, if necessary, take action against whoever is responsible.
Anyone else who spots something suspicious can always report it to our Customer Service team, so our Fraud team can investigate.
Ideally, we would publish every review we receive, whether positive or negative. However, we won’t display any review that includes or refers to (among other things):
To make sure reviews are relevant, we may only accept reviews that are submitted within 3 months of checking out, and we may stop showing reviews once they’re 36 months old – or if the Accommodation has a change of ownership.
An Accommodation may choose to reply to a review.
When you see multiple reviews, the most recent ones will be at the top, subject to a few other factors (what language a review is in, whether it’s just a rating or contains comments as well, etc.). If you like, you can sort and/or filter them (by time of year, review score, etc.).
We sometimes show external review scores from other well-known travel websites. We make it clear when we’ve done this.
These guidelines and standards aim to keep the content on Booking.com relevant and family-friendly without limiting expression of strong opinions. They are also applicable regardless of the sentiment of the comment.
Contributions should be travel related. The most helpful contributions are detailed and help others make better decisions. Please don’t include personal, political, ethical, or religious commentary. Promotional content will be removed and issues concerning Booking.com’s services should be routed to our Customer Service or Accommodation Service teams.
Contributions should be appropriate for a global audience. Please avoid using profanity or attempts to approximate profanity with creative spelling, in any language. Comments and media that include 'hate speech', discriminatory remarks, threats, sexually explicit remarks, violence, and the promotion of illegal activity are not permitted.
All content should be genuine and unique to the guest. Reviews are most valuable when they are original and unbiased. Your contribution should be yours. Booking.com property partners should not post on behalf of guests or offer incentives in exchange for reviews. Attempts to bring down the rating of a competitor by submitting a negative review will not be tolerated.
Respect the privacy of others. Booking.com will make an effort to obscure email addresses, telephone numbers, website addresses, social media accounts, and similar details.
The opinions expressed in contributions are those of Booking.com customers and properties and not of Booking.com. Booking.com does not accept responsibility or liability for any reviews or responses. Booking.com is a distributor (without any obligation to verify) and not a publisher of these comments and responses.
By default, reviews are sorted based on the date of the review and on additional criteria to display the most relevant reviews, including but not limited to: your language, reviews with text, and non-anonymous reviews. Additional sorting options may be available (by type of traveller, by score, etc.).

JapanThe futon mats for sleeping were not very comfortable, and rather thin.
Beautiful location, a perfect little winter getaway. The facilities were clean and well-maintained. The outdoor private onsen was lovely. We were able to use it 2 times during our short stay without waiting at all. Staff were friendly and helpful, and some even spoke English. The breakfasts and dinners were delicious, and it was so nice to have those planned with the booking.

The Staff went beyond the call of duty to make our stay comfortable. I suffered an injured knee at the nearby ski slopes during our stay. The staff helped arrange for necessary visits at two different hospitals, and the hotel changed our room to make our stay easier. It was as authentic Japanese hospitality as one could expect. We are really very grateful, and look forward to many more return visits. (The food, bath facilities and rooms are, needless to say, all completely wonderful as well. The private outdoor baths are clean and comfortable. I also highly recommend having dinner at the hotel. Very delicious.)

United StatesThe only small issue was the repetitive breakfast selection. After 5 days of lodging it needed to change in my opinion.
The staff were professional, helpful, and offered great service. Perfect location for skiing at Appi Kogen Ski Resort. Shuttle service was very convenient to and from station and ski resort. The dinner selection was good for dinners included.

United StatesNo lift. Taking luggages and bags upstairs can be difficult.
At first I thought that it's a family run accommodation, but it's actually not. There are 2-3 people working at the reception. It's indeed a hotel! Breakfast: great coffee, food, service, environment Lunch: no lunch. I bet most people are at the ski Dinner: 3 options (chosen by the receptionist). All with beef as the main dish. Transportation: needed to schedule the shuttle every day, e.g., when to go to the ski, when to return, when to pick up from train station, when to depart, etc. Very close to the ski resort. Less than 15 minutes on foot. Two private and one public hot spring!!!! This is really my favourite part. Beautiful place! There's an area selling cup noodles, daily necessities, and souvenir. We live in a room for 4-5 people. spacious. large window. Beautiful view. Indoor clothing provided. Great renovation and decoration. Professional staff.

ThailandThis has nothing to do with the property but Appi Kogen is still not quite developed, so dining options in the evening are limited and also in the hotel.
The hotel staff were very helpful and attentive. The Onsen and public bath were exceptional and just incredible.

SingaporeLack of pillows and pillow was too soft. Meal options are repeated if you stay more than 3 nights but you can request to change for a fee.
The hospitality and service of the staff is unparalleled. If anyone embodies the spirit of Japanese people, it is the staff in Mori no Hotel. Wen above and beyond their duties and did more than expected nor even requested.

AustraliaPerhaps best to stock up on snacks and supplies (eg wine) before arriving … or at Appi resort. The hotel does have a small shop though. Some more hanging space eg wall hooks in the room would be good.
Very good value for money. Great food and plenty of it. You could walk to the ski field but no need to- there is a hotel shuttle you can arrange daily to take you and pick you up at day’s end (reliable and punctual). You can use the guests onsen or a private one - there is one for two people and another that can accommodate four people. There family rooms (combination Japanese and Western style) were modern, spacious and comfortable.

AustraliaBreakfast is excellent: Japanese and ample quantities. Small selection of western food available. Dinners are sensational; a rotation between Sukiyaki, Bbq and Shabu Shabu. All delicious in their own way. Accomodation is 3 star and comfortable enough. There are private and public onsens - the public ones are, perhaps, slightly small. Location to Appi Kogen is perfect - a two minute drive at most, even in foul weather. The tariffs are very reasonable, in stark contrast to 1.3km up the hill, on snow.

JapanNot a negative for me, but my husband didn't care for the breakfast. It is a traditional Japanese set. I'd say its always worth a try, but Western palates might not enjoy it. They have scrambled eggs, bacon, croissants, cereal, and more in a buffet-style area as well, so you should be able to find something you like.
I wish that I had discovered this place sooner. My husband is a passholder at the nearby Appi Ski Resort so I booked the family room to work out of while he enjoyed the powder. We were impressed with the Cyprus bath in the room, but it had nothing on the outdoor rock bath. The outdoor baths are both accessible to all guests on a first-come, first-served basis (you can lounge in the lobby and wait for one to open up). The building itself looks like an old lodge and has a beautiful staircase in the lobby. The staff were all very helpful, and there were at least two who spoke great English during our stay. We also booked breakfast and dinner, which I'd say are a must. The hotel advised us that there are no food options nearby. We luckily had a car, but if you don't, definitely be mindful of this.

SwitzerlandWe booked a room for 5 people, but I think the room was more suitable for 3-4 people. With luggage, the room was even more cramped. Thankfully, we were able to store our luggage in a room near the reception so that we could optimise the space a little.
Amazing breakfast and dinner - we were never hungry! There was even an option to have a late-night meal from 9 to 10 pm. The reception was very friendly and even with limited English, they went out of their way to help make our stay as comfortable as possible. There was a shuttle bus to and from Appi Kogen ski resort and the train station. However, these need to be booked beforehand.

The hotel sell also dried ramen and snacks (chips, pop corn). Staff is really nice and helpful, they can pick you up at the train station for free.

AustraliaOur room was small in the old part of the hotel. We were shown a bigger room in the new section that was much bigger and nicer.
The staff were fantastic, they would drive you to the ski area and pick you up on time. Almost as good as ski in/ ski out. The Onsens in the property are fantastic, especially the 2 x private outdoor Onsen.
