Each review score is between 1-10. To get the overall score that you see, we add up all the review scores we’ve received and divide that total by the number of review scores we’ve received. We are currently testing a weighted review system in Malta and Iceland (excluding hotel and vacation rental chains). For properties in these countries, the more recent the review, the bigger the impact on the total review score calculation. In addition, guests can give separate ‘subscores’ in crucial areas, such as location, cleanliness, staff, comfort, facilities, value for money and free Wi-Fi. Note that guests submit their subscores and their overall scores independently, so there’s no direct link between them.
You can review an Accommodation that you booked through our Platform if you stayed there or if you arrived at the property but didn’t actually stay there. To edit a review you’ve already submitted, please contact our Customer Service team.
We have people and automated systems that specialise in detecting fake reviews submitted to our Platform. If we find any, we delete them and, if necessary, take action against whoever is responsible.
Anyone else who spots something suspicious can always report it to our Customer Service team, so our Fraud team can investigate.
Ideally, we would publish every review we receive, whether positive or negative. However, we won’t display any review that includes or refers to (among other things):
To make sure reviews are relevant, we may only accept reviews that are submitted within 3 months of checking out, and we may stop showing reviews once they’re 36 months old – or if the Accommodation has a change of ownership.
An Accommodation may choose to reply to a review.
When you see multiple reviews, the most recent ones will be at the top, subject to a few other factors (what language a review is in, whether it’s just a rating or contains comments as well, etc.). If you like, you can sort and/or filter them (by time of year, review score, etc.).
We sometimes show external review scores from other well-known travel websites. We make it clear when we’ve done this.
These guidelines and standards aim to keep the content on Booking.com relevant and family-friendly without limiting expression of strong opinions. They are also applicable regardless of the sentiment of the comment.
Contributions should be travel related. The most helpful contributions are detailed and help others make better decisions. Please don’t include personal, political, ethical, or religious commentary. Promotional content will be removed and issues concerning Booking.com’s services should be routed to our Customer Service or Accommodation Service teams.
Contributions should be appropriate for a global audience. Please avoid using profanity or attempts to approximate profanity with creative spelling, in any language. Comments and media that include 'hate speech', discriminatory remarks, threats, sexually explicit remarks, violence, and the promotion of illegal activity are not permitted.
All content should be genuine and unique to the guest. Reviews are most valuable when they are original and unbiased. Your contribution should be yours. Booking.com property partners should not post on behalf of guests or offer incentives in exchange for reviews. Attempts to bring down the rating of a competitor by submitting a negative review will not be tolerated.
Respect the privacy of others. Booking.com will make an effort to obscure email addresses, telephone numbers, website addresses, social media accounts, and similar details.
The opinions expressed in contributions are those of Booking.com customers and properties and not of Booking.com. Booking.com does not accept responsibility or liability for any reviews or responses. Booking.com is a distributor (without any obligation to verify) and not a publisher of these comments and responses.
By default, reviews are sorted based on the date of the review and on additional criteria to display the most relevant reviews, including but not limited to: your language, reviews with text, and non-anonymous reviews. Additional sorting options may be available (by type of traveller, by score, etc.).

JapanI was on the sixth floor and thought the high, slanted ceiling in my room was a little odd. It made me wonder how often it's dusted up there. I also noticed some dust stuffed in the corner of my room between the couch and the wall. I also wish they would hang up a sign to indicate when the dinning area is closed. There's no peep holes on the doors. The way the doors locked did not come intuitively to me. I had to try and fail several times before I got the hang of it.
Hotel Anteroom Tokyo isn't far from the Jujo or Kujo subway stations, making a short 7 to 10 minute walk for each of them respectively, and a 15-20 minute walk from Kyoto station (bus stops are sprinkled about too). This was extremely convenient. I was often able to stop at the hotel to rest or drop off my things before heading out again for further sight-seeing. The hotel had a laid back, comfortable vibe, and plenty of soft cushions and "hip" spots to work or chillax at, including the bar area. I can attest the breakfast is indeed marvelous. Not only is it aesthetically arranged, with glasses and actual silverware, but the homemade granola was delectable, along with the mustard spinach smoothie, eggs, whole-grain bread with hummus, and muffins I enjoyed. There's fresh towels in the room, shampoo, body wash, a free bottle of water, mini fridge, and private bathroom as well. There's some free amenities they offer if you forget stuff too, like a shaver and such, and you can use an ironing board, a microwave, and a washer and dryer on the property.

United KingdomHotel is a bit dated but this did not affect cleanliness or quality relative to what was offered.
Excellent location about 10-15 mins walk from main Kyoto station and some shrines, staff were really flexible about leaving bags, beds were comfortable and shower was good and clean. Also quiet and dehumidifier in the room was welcome in the wet weather! Also ask about the public baths to use a minute away if you are feeling adventurous. Also free water filter refill, microwave and washing machine at 100 yen use was really helpful

LithuaniaA bit unfortunate that there was no tea/coffee/sugar in amenities.
Decent hotel with pretty much standard japanese hotel room. Had a bit weird layout though, bathroom was a bit higher than the rest of the room. Breakfast was decent, had a buffet + 2 sandwiches of the day. Has lounge with a bar, but I did not get to use it.

PortugalA bit far from the city center but not too much.
Best budget hotel I've stayed in. Huge room with sofa, confortable bed, super clean. The hotel looks like an art gallery, the staff is super friendly and the buffet breakfast is delicious and healthy with homemade smothies, and granola, roasted veggies but also great eggs and meat. Great attention to details, with complimentary bath salts, umbrelas to borrow and use of bikes. Metro stations near. Super quiet also. Would definitely stay there again.

United KingdomThe location was a little bit of a walk from the main Kyoto train station so be prepared if you have alot of luggage with you. Everything was perfect otherwise!
I loved this hotel and it was my favourite from my stay in Japan. The room was really nice and had a lot of space. It had a bath and a shower, it was really cool using a Japanese bath and they had free bath salts in the lobby which was amazing after a long day of traveling. There was shower gel, shampoo and conditioner in the bathroom plus they had free amenities in the lobby. The bed was super comfortable and the rooms had heating which was nice as it was cold when I visited Kyoto. There was a Lawsons close by and some restaurants too.
