Each review score is between 1-10. To get the overall score that you see, we add up all the review scores we’ve received and divide that total by the number of review scores we’ve received. We are currently testing a weighted review system in Malta and Iceland (excluding hotel and vacation rental chains). For properties in these countries, the more recent the review, the bigger the impact on the total review score calculation. In addition, guests can give separate ‘subscores’ in crucial areas, such as location, cleanliness, staff, comfort, facilities, value for money and free Wi-Fi. Note that guests submit their subscores and their overall scores independently, so there’s no direct link between them.
You can review an Accommodation that you booked through our Platform if you stayed there or if you arrived at the property but didn’t actually stay there. To edit a review you’ve already submitted, please contact our Customer Service team.
We have people and automated systems that specialise in detecting fake reviews submitted to our Platform. If we find any, we delete them and, if necessary, take action against whoever is responsible.
Anyone else who spots something suspicious can always report it to our Customer Service team, so our Fraud team can investigate.
Ideally, we would publish every review we receive, whether positive or negative. However, we won’t display any review that includes or refers to (among other things):
To make sure reviews are relevant, we may only accept reviews that are submitted within 3 months of checking out, and we may stop showing reviews once they’re 36 months old – or if the Accommodation has a change of ownership.
An Accommodation may choose to reply to a review.
When you see multiple reviews, the most recent ones will be at the top, subject to a few other factors (what language a review is in, whether it’s just a rating or contains comments as well, etc.). If you like, you can sort and/or filter them (by time of year, review score, etc.).
We sometimes show external review scores from other well-known travel websites. We make it clear when we’ve done this.
These guidelines and standards aim to keep the content on Booking.com relevant and family-friendly without limiting expression of strong opinions. They are also applicable regardless of the sentiment of the comment.
Contributions should be travel related. The most helpful contributions are detailed and help others make better decisions. Please don’t include personal, political, ethical, or religious commentary. Promotional content will be removed and issues concerning Booking.com’s services should be routed to our Customer Service or Accommodation Service teams.
Contributions should be appropriate for a global audience. Please avoid using profanity or attempts to approximate profanity with creative spelling, in any language. Comments and media that include 'hate speech', discriminatory remarks, threats, sexually explicit remarks, violence, and the promotion of illegal activity are not permitted.
All content should be genuine and unique to the guest. Reviews are most valuable when they are original and unbiased. Your contribution should be yours. Booking.com property partners should not post on behalf of guests or offer incentives in exchange for reviews. Attempts to bring down the rating of a competitor by submitting a negative review will not be tolerated.
Respect the privacy of others. Booking.com will make an effort to obscure email addresses, telephone numbers, website addresses, social media accounts, and similar details.
The opinions expressed in contributions are those of Booking.com customers and properties and not of Booking.com. Booking.com does not accept responsibility or liability for any reviews or responses. Booking.com is a distributor (without any obligation to verify) and not a publisher of these comments and responses.
By default, reviews are sorted based on the date of the review and on additional criteria to display the most relevant reviews, including but not limited to: your language, reviews with text, and non-anonymous reviews. Additional sorting options may be available (by type of traveller, by score, etc.).

United StatesThe hotel was a bit far from the JR train station to walk carrying luggage. During the weekends, the tram line does not go through the road where the hotel is located. The hotel itself was fine.
The hotel was quiet and comfortable. It is about 15 mins walk from the JR Matsuyama station. At about 5 minute walk from the hotel, there's a tram station, which takes you to Matsuyama Castle, Dogo Onsen, etc.

South KoreaAlthough there is a tram stop outside the hotel, it is only an infrequent service to/from Matsuyama City Station (Iyotetsu). The single track is a giveaway to the infrequency! To take the tram from the main JR Station would involve taking one (frequent service) tram for 2-stops (Y200), then waiting for an infrequent service for a further 2-stops (Y200). A taxi direct to the hotel costs about Y750. Cheaper and quicker to walk (15-min for this 73-year old!). For me the biggest drawback with the location is the complete absence of restaurants or eateries in the area (even the hotel restaurant is closed in the evenings). Arriving each night at the JR Station after travelling around Shikoku, I found it better to take the tram to Okaido or Matsuyama City Station and eat there, before returning to the hotel.
Picturesque location, facing the moat that partly surrounds the castle hill. Recommend going for a night time walk and taking some photos of the hotel, moat and catle at night. Relatively accessible (15-min walk) from hotel to Matsuyama JR Station. Fully satisfied with good value, budget priced hotel.

United KingdomI accidentally booked a smoking room and the man on the reception came across as unhelpful/dismissive in terms of amending my booking and finding me a non smoking room. The general condition of the hotel appeared quite dated and worn out.
On the morning I checked out, a lady on the reception was most helpful and rang ahead to the APA Hotel in Kyoto. I had booked for 3 nights in Kyoto and had subsequently checked and ascertained that I had booked a smoking room!

United KingdomIt doesn’t have much parking and it does cost 1200 a night so that’s worth bearing in mind, if you have a car.
This is a comfortable hotel, with friendly staff. There is a laundry on the 1st floor if you need to clean your clothes!

JapanWe think the air ventilation system in the toilet/bathroom area needs to be fixed. I had to wait for the steam from the shower to subside before I could open the door. Otherwise, the fire alarm system could be triggered by the steam. It looks like parts of the hotel room was renovated but the AC unit wasn't. The room smelled a little funny when we arrived back after a long day out. Per rhaps it's due to poor ventilation? We turned on the AC but it took a long time before we could feel comfortable in the cozy hotel room.
We had a comfortable stay in this cozy hotel room.. The beds were very comfortable at APA hotel! The room was clean and tidy, with amenities provided for (toothbrush, hairtie, cup, body towel...etc) We loved that it was near Matsuyama castle. With a kombini and grocery store within 5 minutes walk away, it was easy to get what we needed at any time. The staff was courteous and check-in went through smoothly. Check out was simply dropping off the key card in the designated place and no need to talk to or wait for staff on the way out (useful for early morning check outs!)

AustraliaThe hotel (as of April 4th, 2023) is covered in hessian and scaffolding. No reason given. Don’t expect views. The air-conditioning is centralised. My room averaged 24c and I couldn’t open the window. almost intolerable.

JapanThe Air Conditioner in the room was quite warn. I wish I could lower it as I prefer slightly colder temperature. But it wasn't a big issue. I suppose if I told the hotel staff they could do something about it but I am not sure.
The hotel is an excellent location, super close to the Matsuyama Station (about 15-16 min walk). The hotel staff were kind and helpful and the room was really spacious and comfortable. The pillows were super comfortable and the WiFi was quite fast as well.

JapanWell the staff that checked me in better sharpen up on his customer service skills, was very slow and his tone of voice was just not welcoming and friendly at all!!Maybe being polite in Japan is putting on a serious face I don't know but that was not welcoming at all
The food was great. Even though it's a long walk away from the city center it's quiet and peaceful if you prefer a place outside of the city.

AustraliaWe were pleased to find all the usual business hotel facilities close enough to public transport to walk to both bus and train. There was a good supermarket nearby and the Castle is an easy walk as well. The microwave on the second floor was handy. There was a washing machine & drier there as well. Both looked clean and well cared for. We found the bathroom, the usual model for business hotels, to be OK but wondered how anyone with reduced mobility would cope with the step up.
