How guest reviews work
Each review score is between 1-10. To get the overall score that you see, we add up all the review scores we’ve received and divide that total by the number of review scores we’ve received. We are currently testing a weighted review system in Malta and Iceland (excluding hotel and vacation rental chains). For properties in these countries, the more recent the review, the bigger the impact on the total review score calculation. In addition, guests can give separate ‘subscores’ in crucial areas, such as location, cleanliness, staff, comfort, facilities, value for money and free Wi-Fi. Note that guests submit their subscores and their overall scores independently, so there’s no direct link between them.
You can review an Accommodation that you booked through our Platform if you stayed there or if you arrived at the property but didn’t actually stay there. To edit a review you’ve already submitted, please contact our Customer Service team.
We have people and automated systems that specialise in detecting fake reviews submitted to our Platform. If we find any, we delete them and, if necessary, take action against whoever is responsible.
Anyone else who spots something suspicious can always report it to our Customer Service team, so our Fraud team can investigate.
Ideally, we would publish every review we receive, whether positive or negative. However, we won’t display any review that includes or refers to (among other things):
- Politically sensitive comments
- Promotional content
- Illegal activities
- Personal or sensitive information (e.g. emails, phone numbers or credit card info)
- Swear words, sexual references, hate speech, discriminatory remarks, threats, or references to violence
- Spam and fake content
- Animal cruelty
- Impersonation (e.g. if the writer is claiming to be someone else)
- Any violation of our review guidelines.
To make sure reviews are relevant, we may only accept reviews that are submitted within 3 months of checking out, and we may stop showing reviews once they’re 36 months old – or if the Accommodation has a change of ownership.
An Accommodation may choose to reply to a review.
When you see multiple reviews, the most recent ones will be at the top, subject to a few other factors (what language a review is in, whether it’s just a rating or contains comments as well, etc.). If you like, you can sort and/or filter them (by time of year, review score, etc.).
We sometimes show external review scores from other well-known travel websites. We make it clear when we’ve done this.
Guidelines and standards for Reviews

Could be a bit cleaner, dusty bookshelf in the room. Room was small but functional

Perfect locate just a few minute turn right to subway entrance elevator down with carry on suitcases to JR station up above, turn left across street to Ameyoko, Station, Ueno Park love these days of stay onsen 15th floor complete the day with relaxing

My aunt has problem with self-check in, so she tried to let me talk with staff via phone. but seems like he cannot explain or didnt want to talk to me or my aunt.
Good quality of product. Toiletries such as shampoo can handle my damage hair even I didn't carry any hair oil to set mine. Give us a lot of towels to change every day.

The room was very small, which is quite typical, but I can't overlook it. They don't provide a second blanket, and we barely fit under one - sleeping was uncomfortable. Very few options on the breakfast.
Very clean and comfortable. Lots of instructions provided. The staff is ready to help with any problem (except for the blanket, see below), they provided an adapter for the socket. We didn't use the spa. The room is quiet, the bed is comfortable. The location is very convenient - not far from Ueno station.

The cleanness of the room still needs to improve, quite dusty
The staff are efficient, the first room I enter smells musty, I call the staff and they change the room for me immediately, so far I like their service

The room too small for 2 of us..so is the bathroom..we can't open our luggage in the same time..the staff need to improve english language..
The location near ueno station.. a good price..we can send our luggages to hotel in osaka from APA..

The water in the shower room is too weak. That fact urged me to go to the public Onsen for a decent shower.
All the things are good except for the shower experience in the room.

A bit hard to find initially and a little confusing as there are a number of APA hotels in the area. However once we worked it out, it is an excellent location.
Although room was small, it was very well set out and comfortable, had everything we needed. Very clean and room was quiet.

The room was small (by Western standards) but I was prepared for that & it wasn’t a problem for my purposes.
The on-site Onsen facility was really useful.

The AC needed cleaning. It smelled moldy when I turned it on, and I saw black dots in the vents (maybe mold) and I let the machine run for 20 minutes until the smell went away.
All APAs are consistent so you know what to expect when you go to different APAs. Clean beds, good laundry service, friendly staff, and Onsen on site

Room was tiny, but that was to be expected. Did not like the check-in system. It was cumbersome and took longer than needed to type in all the passport details. It would be faster to have a regular keyboard instead of the slow touchscreen. Public bath had a mildew/mold smell on one of the days.
Great central location and close to Ueno train station. Good value for money. Public bath was nice.

The rooms are small and compact, but it makes up for it through thoughtful design. I did not have any issue with opening my luggage, or hanging my clothes, or using the fridge/kettle. Location is also good.

Room sizes are small, but comfortable for 1 person.
Convenient and very cheap with a great location. Facilities are good, particularly the roof top onsen. Located close to markets, trains and restaurants.

Check in is complicate. The staff already check our reservation and passport, I do not understand why we have have To do a self check in using a machine.
