Each review score is between 1-10. To get the overall score that you see, we add up all the review scores we’ve received and divide that total by the number of review scores we’ve received. We are currently testing a weighted review system in Malta and Iceland (excluding hotel and vacation rental chains). For properties in these countries, the more recent the review, the bigger the impact on the total review score calculation. In addition, guests can give separate ‘subscores’ in crucial areas, such as location, cleanliness, staff, comfort, facilities, value for money and free Wi-Fi. Note that guests submit their subscores and their overall scores independently, so there’s no direct link between them.
You can review an Accommodation that you booked through our Platform if you stayed there or if you arrived at the property but didn’t actually stay there. To edit a review you’ve already submitted, please contact our Customer Service team.
We have people and automated systems that specialise in detecting fake reviews submitted to our Platform. If we find any, we delete them and, if necessary, take action against whoever is responsible.
Anyone else who spots something suspicious can always report it to our Customer Service team, so our Fraud team can investigate.
Ideally, we would publish every review we receive, whether positive or negative. However, we won’t display any review that includes or refers to (among other things):
To make sure reviews are relevant, we may only accept reviews that are submitted within 3 months of checking out, and we may stop showing reviews once they’re 36 months old – or if the Accommodation has a change of ownership.
An Accommodation may choose to reply to a review.
When you see multiple reviews, the most recent ones will be at the top, subject to a few other factors (what language a review is in, whether it’s just a rating or contains comments as well, etc.). If you like, you can sort and/or filter them (by time of year, review score, etc.).
We sometimes show external review scores from other well-known travel websites. We make it clear when we’ve done this.
These guidelines and standards aim to keep the content on Booking.com relevant and family-friendly without limiting expression of strong opinions. They are also applicable regardless of the sentiment of the comment.
Contributions should be travel related. The most helpful contributions are detailed and help others make better decisions. Please don’t include personal, political, ethical, or religious commentary. Promotional content will be removed and issues concerning Booking.com’s services should be routed to our Customer Service or Accommodation Service teams.
Contributions should be appropriate for a global audience. Please avoid using profanity or attempts to approximate profanity with creative spelling, in any language. Comments and media that include 'hate speech', discriminatory remarks, threats, sexually explicit remarks, violence, and the promotion of illegal activity are not permitted.
All content should be genuine and unique to the guest. Reviews are most valuable when they are original and unbiased. Your contribution should be yours. Booking.com property partners should not post on behalf of guests or offer incentives in exchange for reviews. Attempts to bring down the rating of a competitor by submitting a negative review will not be tolerated.
Respect the privacy of others. Booking.com will make an effort to obscure email addresses, telephone numbers, website addresses, social media accounts, and similar details.
The opinions expressed in contributions are those of Booking.com customers and properties and not of Booking.com. Booking.com does not accept responsibility or liability for any reviews or responses. Booking.com is a distributor (without any obligation to verify) and not a publisher of these comments and responses.
By default, reviews are sorted based on the date of the review and on additional criteria to display the most relevant reviews, including but not limited to: your language, reviews with text, and non-anonymous reviews. Additional sorting options may be available (by type of traveller, by score, etc.).

SingaporeThe hotel entrance sits on a slope and visitors especially the elderly will have a hard time carrying their luggage up and down the slope More improvement to the property like lighting in evening, cleanliness can be better. The quality of breakfast would be far more enjoyable with a conscious change in variety of dishes
The employees from front desk and restaurant were extremely helpful and polite. A special mention to Yoshida, Takiguchi, Paku, Daisuke, Aung, Saroj and Ume

CanadaDinner was disappointing--not the freshest; lack of explanation of dishes (needed to use Google Translate); yukata choices were poor, even the paid ones (500 yen rental). We paid extra for a private onsen experience (around 7,500 yen if my memory serves me right) which was not inexpensive. Very disappointed since the temperature of the water in the huge wooden bathtub was a little more than lukewarm--could hardly call it "onsen" temperature!!! Two free drinks-one soda and one local beer; would have been nice to give us a third one given there were three of us.
Proximity to Atami Station; spacious room (but we paid for the luxury room with view of the beach); large rooftop area for watching fireworks; great veiw of the beach and sea indeed; nice welcoming snacks and tea bags.

the location is super convenient as it is just about 3 minutes walk from Amita train station, and it is easy to walk around town and the beach. Their staff are very helpful and friendly, the breakfast were good and private onsen inside the room overseeing the beach and town were fantastic!

United StatesThe family style room was great but had little ants around the refrigerator area. There wasn't that many but can tell they were coming from somewhere. Other than that, the experience was great.
Getting to the Ryokan was very close to the JR Atami station. Google map direction showed different, so make sure you know where the ryokan is before getting there. We decided to reserve the family room which had the private onsen right outside. The 1 year old toddler loved that onsen and it wasn't too hot for him. If you have little ones, I recommend getting the large family room with the private onsen. The area where you eat dinner and breakfast is not in your room, but in a different private area which was really delicious. We will definitely come back if we stop in Atami.

Hong KongThe only thing was I asked for additional pillows upon arrival, and that was not delivered. When I asked again in the evening, the staff gave me a pillow meant to be for the baby crib and informed me that no additional pillow is available.
The room has a stunning view, spacious and comfortble. Love the in room onsend facility. Staff were just wonderful, very attentive and catered well to our needs.

United Statesit was just perfect for us - low key and warm; not fancy, but delightful and relaxing
amazing views, friendly staff, not crowded Onsen (we stayed a Friday night, it seems busier the next day), walking distance to the Atami station and right next to a charming strip of shops and restaurants, amazing meals in a private room, option of western or Japanese rooms (we chose one of each for our family of four) and everyone was happy! in the morning we walked to the beach and grabbed snacks at the convenience store. a wonderful atmosphere all around. we took the train from Atami down the coast to Jogasaki Kaigan (about 50 min) and walked 20 min to the lighthouse and suspension bridges - stunning!!!

GermanyJust minor nitpicks: the building substance is a tad old, and it shows in the corridors and halls. The rooms themselves are completely fine, though. Also, the restaurant is a bit inconveniently located in the annex.
There's hardly a Ryokan in Atami that is more conveniently located. Roll out of the train station, pass through the shopping arcade, and there you are. It's quite big, but their customer service is above average even on the (lofty) Ryokan scale. The food is--of course--gorgeous. In fact, if you can manage, book some seafood extras, since Atami has some of the finest fish in Japan available. Don't miss it. If you are bashful and worry about the Onsen-typical naked bathing (or if you want to bathe together as a couple), book a room with a private hot spring water bathtub. It works great, and you can enjoy the ocean view while soaking in the hot water. Just remember to start filling it early, it will take an hour or so until it's full.
