Each review score is between 1-10. To get the overall score that you see, we add up all the review scores we’ve received and divide that total by the number of review scores we’ve received. We are currently testing a weighted review system in Malta and Iceland (excluding hotel and vacation rental chains). For properties in these countries, the more recent the review, the bigger the impact on the total review score calculation. In addition, guests can give separate ‘subscores’ in crucial areas, such as location, cleanliness, staff, comfort, facilities, value for money and free Wi-Fi. Note that guests submit their subscores and their overall scores independently, so there’s no direct link between them.
You can review an Accommodation that you booked through our Platform if you stayed there or if you arrived at the property but didn’t actually stay there. To edit a review you’ve already submitted, please contact our Customer Service team.
We have people and automated systems that specialise in detecting fake reviews submitted to our Platform. If we find any, we delete them and, if necessary, take action against whoever is responsible.
Anyone else who spots something suspicious can always report it to our Customer Service team, so our Fraud team can investigate.
Ideally, we would publish every review we receive, whether positive or negative. However, we won’t display any review that includes or refers to (among other things):
To make sure reviews are relevant, we may only accept reviews that are submitted within 3 months of checking out, and we may stop showing reviews once they’re 36 months old – or if the Accommodation has a change of ownership.
An Accommodation may choose to reply to a review.
When you see multiple reviews, the most recent ones will be at the top, subject to a few other factors (what language a review is in, whether it’s just a rating or contains comments as well, etc.). If you like, you can sort and/or filter them (by time of year, review score, etc.).
We sometimes show external review scores from other well-known travel websites. We make it clear when we’ve done this.
These guidelines and standards aim to keep the content on Booking.com relevant and family-friendly without limiting expression of strong opinions. They are also applicable regardless of the sentiment of the comment.
Contributions should be travel related. The most helpful contributions are detailed and help others make better decisions. Please don’t include personal, political, ethical, or religious commentary. Promotional content will be removed and issues concerning Booking.com’s services should be routed to our Customer Service or Accommodation Service teams.
Contributions should be appropriate for a global audience. Please avoid using profanity or attempts to approximate profanity with creative spelling, in any language. Comments and media that include 'hate speech', discriminatory remarks, threats, sexually explicit remarks, violence, and the promotion of illegal activity are not permitted.
All content should be genuine and unique to the guest. Reviews are most valuable when they are original and unbiased. Your contribution should be yours. Booking.com property partners should not post on behalf of guests or offer incentives in exchange for reviews. Attempts to bring down the rating of a competitor by submitting a negative review will not be tolerated.
Respect the privacy of others. Booking.com will make an effort to obscure email addresses, telephone numbers, website addresses, social media accounts, and similar details.
The opinions expressed in contributions are those of Booking.com customers and properties and not of Booking.com. Booking.com does not accept responsibility or liability for any reviews or responses. By default, reviews are sorted based on the date of the review and on additional criteria to display the most relevant reviews, including but not limited to: your language, reviews with text, and non-anonymous reviews. Additional sorting options may be available (by type of traveller, by score, etc.).

United KingdomOur stay at Azukiya was so lovely, the property is traditional japanese style and so charming! We had yukata in our room and we enjoyed wearing them around the room, it really added to our experience. Location is convenient and close to an underground station, but also walking to the city center and main attractions is fine. We had breakfast at Azukiya on one occasion and the food was freshly prepared for us with such care, all delicious. We really recommend Azukiya for your stay in Kyoto :)

AustraliaLeaving, we stayed 3 night's should have stayed a couple more days
The location was fantastic, 2min walk to train station & near lots of attractions in older area of Kyoto. The host Chieko gave us great tips on the area and her breakfast’s were amazing, beautifully prepared and presented. The Ryokan was spacious, very well maintained, a beautiful courtyard, washing / dryer combo and great coffee. This accomodation & host was outstanding and I can’t wait to return.

AustraliaEverything about our stay was perfect, from the stunning, traditional property to the incredibly kind and thoughtful host! Make sure you give Chieko a heads up that you’d like breakfast, because she puts together such a delicious spread. She even accommodates our son’s allergies. She was so patient and kind in helping us navigate some of the challenges of navigating Japan with a baby. We cannot recommend a stay at Azukiya enough! Thank you!

EVERYTHING!! This is the most amazing place to stay in Kyoto. The traditional Ryokan is even better in person if that is even possible. Everything is super clean and spacious and just perfect in every way. The bathroom is super large and the shower pressure is amazing. I didn’t want to get out. The beds were super comfortable and the zen garden in the back looks like a postcard. The washer/dryer was clutch and all detergent and softener was provided. We were also able to rent E-bikes during our stay which allowed us to see so much more. The location is perfect for seeing all of the sights. 20 minute walk to Gion and the markets and super close to subway lines and a Lawson. Kitamura-San couldn’t be a more gracious host. She treated us like family and boy can she cook. Definitely have the breakfast while you are there. It is something deliciously different every day and alternates between western and Japanese cuisine. I cannot say enough good things about the hospitality. I wanted to stay forever.

PolandLeaving
Staying there was a delight The room looked exactly like on the pictures except it felt bigger and really cosy. The bathroom was perfect, very clean and honestly quite spacious when compared to other accommodations in Japan. It really felt like having a traditional Japanese room but with all the comfort of modern times. We were also worried to be cold coming in November but the place had definitely enough heating to keep the room warm if needed. Breakfast, japanese or western style (still with a Japanese touch) was delicious, very filling and everytime different. The location was overall very nice as the subway station is mere minutes away and Gion area isn't too far while other areas north of Kyoto are also in walkable distance. Kitamura-san was just the cherry on the cake as she was extremely helpful, welcoming and caring. It felt wrong to leave the place.

Everything: the owner/host is a very helpful and welcoming lady who has maintained this charming 100-year old traditional Japanese townhouse in perfect condition. The place is super clean and has modern and updated facilities, and is near some of Kyotos most famous shrines and temples. Don’t miss the breakfast the owner offers.

GermanyMore remarks than criticism: My husband missed a plug for the wash basin when shaving. But maybe we just have overseen it. I sometimes missed a stool in the shower after a long day of sightseeing. We had one in the hotel we stayed before and I started to like that.
Room Really beautiful traditional room in a lovingly furnished townhouse. We had plenty of space and liked to spend time in our room. There was garden view, but unfortunately the weather was too hot to keep the windows open to enjoy it when sitting in the sitting area. Bed The futons were very comfy, also the pillows. We slept very well. The aircon, which we had switched on all night, was quiet enough to have a good sleep. Sometimes you can hear the nearby street at night (e.g. motorbikes). Although such traditional Japanese houses are relatively bright in terms of noise we heard nothing from our neighbours (but people who book such accommodations should be aware of this fact). Location Keage Station is around 5 minutes by foot away. Also the hotel was conveniently located to visit a lot of famous sightseeing spots in Southern Higashiyama. So, if you like, you can do a lot by foot. Amenities There were amenities available and also a washing/drying machine, so we missed nothing. For those who are interested in such things: room cleaning and change of towels was not on a daily basis. For us it was regularly enough, so there is nothing to criticize. Breakfast The breakfast (we had alternating Western and Japanese style) was homemade and we got something new everyday. Every day we were excited to see what was available and it was very tasty. Also it was plenty, so we were not hungry until the afternoon. We can recommend booking breakfast, since it was nothing standardized but has felt made with love. Host The host was a very helpful, sympathetic and friendly lady who speaks good English. She pointed out to us when the weather was supposed to be particularly hot and gave us information about the surroundings and the sights. If asking one day in advance, it was no problem to change our breakfast time for the next day, which was much appreciated. The best hotel (out of 5) during our 3 weeks in Japan. ありがとうございました 。また泊まりたいです。
