Each review score is between 1-10. To get the overall score that you see, we add up all the review scores we’ve received and divide that total by the number of review scores we’ve received. We are currently testing a weighted review system in Malta and Iceland (excluding hotel and vacation rental chains). For properties in these countries, the more recent the review, the bigger the impact on the total review score calculation. In addition, guests can give separate ‘subscores’ in crucial areas, such as location, cleanliness, staff, comfort, facilities, value for money and free Wi-Fi. Note that guests submit their subscores and their overall scores independently, so there’s no direct link between them.
You can review an Accommodation that you booked through our Platform if you stayed there or if you arrived at the property but didn’t actually stay there. To edit a review you’ve already submitted, please contact our Customer Service team.
We have people and automated systems that specialise in detecting fake reviews submitted to our Platform. If we find any, we delete them and, if necessary, take action against whoever is responsible.
Anyone else who spots something suspicious can always report it to our Customer Service team, so our Fraud team can investigate.
Ideally, we would publish every review we receive, whether positive or negative. However, we won’t display any review that includes or refers to (among other things):
To make sure reviews are relevant, we may only accept reviews that are submitted within 3 months of checking out, and we may stop showing reviews once they’re 36 months old – or if the Accommodation has a change of ownership.
An Accommodation may choose to reply to a review.
When you see multiple reviews, the most recent ones will be at the top, subject to a few other factors (what language a review is in, whether it’s just a rating or contains comments as well, etc.). If you like, you can sort and/or filter them (by time of year, review score, etc.).
We sometimes show external review scores from other well-known travel websites. We make it clear when we’ve done this.
These guidelines and standards aim to keep the content on Booking.com relevant and family-friendly without limiting expression of strong opinions. They are also applicable regardless of the sentiment of the comment.

United StatesIf you're staying as a group of friends or relatives, the shower/outdoor bath layout can make it a little difficult to get clean without being on full display. There is clear glass between the shower and the bath 😅
The staff was super nice and every little part of the hotel was so unique and beautiful. I stayed here with a group of friends and we all walked away wishing with could have stayed longer.

United KingdomThe only thing I think could be improved is having some snacks available after 10. We are night owls so often stay up later. All the lounges shut away their drinks and snacks just before 10, so when I came out at 9:50 to grab a last drink and biscuit from the Bessho Sasa lounge, I couldnt. I then wandered around the hotel searching for a place to get a soft drink, but there was only a late night noodle bar type thing which wasn't what I was after since I just wanted a drink and something sweet.
Everything. We liked everything about our stay. The in room onsen was brilliant, the garden on the grounds and the taster experiences were more than we expected. The food was lovely and the staff were beyond helpful. We really really enjoyed our stay and are desperate to come back to Japan to stay here again.

AustraliaThe check in process was quite long and a little overwhelming with the full tour of the facilities and all the activities we could do. It would have been nicer to head up to our room first to freshen up, then have the breakdown of all the activities etc.
The location was stunning! We had a private onsen on our balcony which overlooked Mt Fuji and was breathtaking. The staff were so accomodating and the food was exceptional! We absolutely loved it here and can't wait to come back.

The whole property was absolutely lovely! The gardens were beautiful and the room was stunning, spacious and comfortable. The private onsen with the view of Fuji was absolutely magical and the included lounges and dinner in our room was amazing.

United StatesWe had a later dinner at 7p that didn’t finish until 810p which felt rushed since we also wanted to watch the taiko drum show
I enjoyed the dinner and breakfast meals and all the amenities included with the room. Access to a bar and wine lounge with unlimited drinks and small snacks such as ice cream, crackers, and other finger foods. The tea room was also great to enjoy the Japanese confection and blended match in front of a scenic view. The evening events included the taiko drum show, bingo, and a live piano performance with included drink of the night.

United StatesOnly complaint was that the the bedroom area (ie. bed/mattress) seemed dusty. To clarify all surfaces were nice and clean but everytime you sit on the bed a lot of visible dust came into the air. Could not tell if specifically from the mattress or blanket.
Wonderful stay at Bessho Sasa, was able to experience traditional washoku dining for dinner and endless buffet for breakfast! Definitely worth the price, in suite onsen was phenomenal with views of Mt Fuji. By staying at Sasa instead of the general hotel you have access to private wine tasting bar and 2 lounges (exclusive to Sasa patrons only). So glad we decided to stay 2 nights, the entire hotel area is huge with lots to do, traditional Japanese tea and sweets at the river, garden walk, foot bath, public onsens etc. Many restaurants on site for options also including traditional taiko (drum) performance every night. You will not feel like you missed out if you never left the hotel vicinity as its so expansive. Will definitely return if we are ever in the area!

United KingdomToilet had a weird smell (no freshener inside either), hard to maintain a constant cool temperature in the room (AC kept turning off after a few hours), pillows was not comfortable for us, there was construction in the floor below us which we didn’t know until we arrived. Overall price was a lot at almost £600 a night. Not sure it was worth that cost in the end, maybe £400 tops
Amazing view from our room which you could “mostly” see Fuji from inside the private onset, staff were amazing and very attentive, room was large and spacious, food service was high quality and adaptable to our needs, garden and general amenities on site was very good

United StatesGetting to Bessho Sasa and Kaneyamaen can be a bit of a challenge if you don't do your homework in advance. If you have an IC card (either physical card or one on your mobile device) you should be fine. The JR Pass does not work for the private train line that takes you from Otsuki Station to Mt. Fuji Station or Kawaguchiko Station; you'll need to purchase a separate ticket if you only have the JR Pass. In any event, it is totally worth it to spend the additional 400 yen to hop on the limited express train between Otsuki and Mt. Fuji/Kawaguchiko as it is a big time saver not having to stop at all the stations along the way (of which there are surprisingly many).
This property has exquisite views of Mt. Fuji (when the weather cooperates); viewed best in the morning, in our experience. Thoroughly enjoyed viewing Fuji from our room and private onsen on the balcony. The water temperature takes a little getting used to, but if it's too hot they can adjust the temperature down for each individual private onsen. The nightly kaiseki (traditional multi-course dinner) allowed us to explore foods that I thought I would never try. Beautifully manicured gardens and koi ponds. Everyone enjoys the kimono rental that comes complimentary with your stay. The complimentary shuttle to and from the Mt. Fuji or Kawaguchiko train stations is a big plus; easy to call and let them know you've arrived, and a very short wait. Taiko drumming, piano performances, private lounges with complimentary drinks and snacks... there's something for everyone to enjoy here.

United StatesNeeds better property maintenance. While the front entrance is good, the property is big and has clear signs of lack of maintenance - garden is not fully kept with spider webs and ant infestations, other parts inside the facility has visible signs of wear and tear that are not looked after. The property is unnecessarily large (several empty restaurants and open space) and all very outdated. For over $1000/night, I expect much better. Yes the open air Onsen is great but it’s not garanteed a view since it’s weather dependent. The lounge on 4th floor was very basic with just drinks and crackers. Overall, they’re trying to make it a luxury experience but it feels mid. You’re basically paying for the meals, the great staff, and if you’re lucky, the view of mt.Fuji. It might actually be worth it if the skies are clear and you can enjoy the view from your private onsen but that’s a gamble.
Great view (If it’s clear skies) and love how the water is natural Hot spring. Staff during private dinner was really friendly and the breakfast was also good. Shuttle was offered on check out day only.. would be nice if they can offer shuttle to main station for guests throughout the day since the taxi apps do not service this area.

MalaysiaThe only downside was the private onsen in the room seems to be hotter than the usual 40 degC. I think it was at 42 degC and that was a bit too hot.
It was definitely exceeded expectation from A to Z. - Pick up from Kawaguchiko station: driver was friendly and punctual. - Check-in: handled seamlessly from the moment we stepped down the mini bus. A dedicated staff walked us through all the facilities before taking us to the room - Activities: * Complimentary tea and snack at the tea house overlooking the beautiful garden was great. * Open air onsen looking directly at the fuji mountain was exceptional, even though it was covered by cloud on my day of visit * Dining in our room (i think 9 course meal) was delivious and luxurious * Room: from bath room to bedroom to dining room to private open air onsen, everything was just perfect Love everything about this place. Wish i stayed longer. Hope i can visit again.
