The description of the rooms on booking.com wasn’t obvious.

The hotel is great especially for someone who appreciates art. Each room in this hotel is a piece of art and may be you should check on their website if you like the design or not. The room was very clean, very nice and comfortable bathroom, the location is superb, close to a lot of Kyoto’s best attractions, restaurants and nightlife. The staff was very helpful, if you feel that you room as it is a piece of art misses something, they try to accommodate you the best way they could. For example our room was a bit dark so they offered additional lamps( we refused, didn’t want to spoil the author’s idea), they also have extension cords on the floor if you feel that there is not enough power outlets. We liked this hotel and would definitely stay there again.

Only thing that I’d say is that the art character of the room doesn’t work well if you want to hang clothes or organize your stuff as everything is art and potentially fragile. Still worth it though

great location. great rooms - much larger than most hotel rooms in Japan. And the support for local artists makes for a much more interesting local experience than most hotels

Its an interesting place, worth visiting for 1 night. Unfortunately this doesn't work as a hotel for me - the rooms (we've been 2) are uniquely designed, which is cool. But from all the design the basic functionality suffers - it's hard to find a place to put a phone or a book on the room, or to sit comfortably. Forget about a place for your clothes. So it's a great gimmick, worth spending the night in for the sake of experience, just be prepared to lose some basic comfort.

Loved the hotel, the vibe, the cocktail bar, the location and especially the wonderful staff. The artwork in the 2 rooms we stayed in was amazing and just added to the whole experience. Will definitely be back.

In an attempt to be super stylish and minimalist, practicality has been lost a little bit, lack of storage space and a place other than the bed to relax, consider a couch or comfortable armchair?!

The pillows need replacing - most uncomfortable ever! As no furniture in the room it is difficult to keep tidy as living out of suitcase. Even a small cabinet/wardrobe in keeping with design would help. The number of rules that you are taken through at check in are overwhelming - don't touch walls, no housekeeping, towels into baskets, 'we are insured if you break anything' feels very prescriptive and rigid.

Good location & transportation options. Nice rooms with interesting art elements. Nice breakfast. Quite a few nice restaurants nearby. Multiple supermarkets / convenient stores nearby.

The check-in process was a little confusing.

The hotel is very funky in a great location with lots of public transport option close by. The staff are all keen and know the city well. They have a nice coffee shop, but for some reason the staff thinks it only opens at 10am, while they actually serve coffee happily to residents during the "breakfast" opening time of 8am.
