Each review score is between 1-10. To get the overall score that you see, we add up all the review scores we’ve received and divide that total by the number of review scores we’ve received. We are currently testing a weighted review system in Malta and Iceland (excluding hotel and vacation rental chains). For properties in these countries, the more recent the review, the bigger the impact on the total review score calculation. In addition, guests can give separate ‘subscores’ in crucial areas, such as location, cleanliness, staff, comfort, facilities, value for money and free Wi-Fi. Note that guests submit their subscores and their overall scores independently, so there’s no direct link between them.
You can review an Accommodation that you booked through our Platform if you stayed there or if you arrived at the property but didn’t actually stay there. To edit a review you’ve already submitted, please contact our Customer Service team.
We have people and automated systems that specialise in detecting fake reviews submitted to our Platform. If we find any, we delete them and, if necessary, take action against whoever is responsible.
Anyone else who spots something suspicious can always report it to our Customer Service team, so our Fraud team can investigate.
Ideally, we would publish every review we receive, whether positive or negative. However, we won’t display any review that includes or refers to (among other things):
To make sure reviews are relevant, we may only accept reviews that are submitted within 3 months of checking out, and we may stop showing reviews once they’re 36 months old – or if the Accommodation has a change of ownership.
An Accommodation may choose to reply to a review.
When you see multiple reviews, the most recent ones will be at the top, subject to a few other factors (what language a review is in, whether it’s just a rating or contains comments as well, etc.). If you like, you can sort and/or filter them (by time of year, review score, etc.).
We sometimes show external review scores from other well-known travel websites. We make it clear when we’ve done this.
These guidelines and standards aim to keep the content on Booking.com relevant and family-friendly without limiting expression of strong opinions. They are also applicable regardless of the sentiment of the comment.
Contributions should be travel related. The most helpful contributions are detailed and help others make better decisions. Please don’t include personal, political, ethical, or religious commentary. Promotional content will be removed and issues concerning Booking.com’s services should be routed to our Customer Service or Accommodation Service teams.
Contributions should be appropriate for a global audience. Please avoid using profanity or attempts to approximate profanity with creative spelling, in any language. Comments and media that include 'hate speech', discriminatory remarks, threats, sexually explicit remarks, violence, and the promotion of illegal activity are not permitted.
All content should be genuine and unique to the guest. Reviews are most valuable when they are original and unbiased. Your contribution should be yours. Booking.com property partners should not post on behalf of guests or offer incentives in exchange for reviews. Attempts to bring down the rating of a competitor by submitting a negative review will not be tolerated.
Respect the privacy of others. Booking.com will make an effort to obscure email addresses, telephone numbers, website addresses, social media accounts, and similar details.
The opinions expressed in contributions are those of Booking.com customers and properties and not of Booking.com. Booking.com does not accept responsibility or liability for any reviews or responses. Booking.com is a distributor (without any obligation to verify) and not a publisher of these comments and responses.
By default, reviews are sorted based on the date of the review and on additional criteria to display the most relevant reviews, including but not limited to: your language, reviews with text, and non-anonymous reviews. Additional sorting options may be available (by type of traveller, by score, etc.).

JapanNeed to update the bed frames. I dont mind the sound, but it might cause inconvenience to others when they hear my bed squeaking every time i move.
How close it is to everything.

Hong KongThe place is just so horribly designed. First of all 20 of the beds are all just in an open space, with the stairs, reception, and the common area, altogether. Then the beds are made of metal so every movement on them makes a sound, you wake yourself up and most probably also your neighbours. The individual lights shine through the huge gap between bunks so when your bunk mate decides to turn on the light then it's pretty much in your face too. Mattresses and pillows are old and thin so you'll feel the metal. Beds of poor quality aren't meant to last forever. Perhaps a capsule hostel would even be more spacious. I'd like to invite the owner to sleep one night there and see how they feel.
The receptionist was really friendly. Location is good. It's clean. But that is all.

CanadaThe beds were extremely uncomfortable (you can feel the bars under the mattress). And the space is too small. There is not enough room to store or open your luggage.
The staff was kind and helpful, and the location in China town is excellent.

Dominican RepublicNice place and even better staff! I had some complications arriving in Yokohama due to weather conditions and they constantly followed up to make sure I was ok. Although in the end I only could spend one night there, I really loved the place, it's cozy and smells sooooo good! If you're staying in Yokohama, visit Chillulu hostel, you won't regret it (:

ItalyAmazing hospitality by Mr. Ito and management. They were very helpful, kind and generous. They provided free coffee and snacks and allowed luggage to be stored after check out to enable guests to continue sight seeing in town. The location in Chinatown was perfect. We could access to all the tourist attractions, shopping streets and train stations, without having to spend money on taxi. This is truly a very good value for money Hostel

There is a free flatrate for Coffee, Tea and Juice. Rico and Ito are the nicest staff I had during my stays in different cities. Cozy atmosphere and perfectly located in Chinatown. It made me feel like home. Gonna come back! :))

Russiamany things. first of all, the bed was so noisy - every movement of any person was heard by all the people at night. Because of that it was impossible to sleep well - and it is crucial while travelling. secondly, the were only one toilet and two showers - but there were a lot of people. thirdly, there was a separate living for men and women announced - but in fact everybody were living together, see each other in the underwear etc. last but not least - the “door” of each capsule was so bad that I could not close it well to separate from the outside.
nice personnel, speaks English well

Singaporethe whole hostel is one big room with no doors except the toilet doors. the beds are all in one row, but they do separate female/male from left to right. as mentioned, no doors separating lounge and bed areas, if guests are noisy it will be tough. the woman sleeping below my bed was flirting and laughing until 12am at the lounge during my stay. When she finally decided to sleep, she was annoyed at the surrounding beds' bedlights and the water sounds from the airconditioning water pipes and kept making sounds of annoyance. It really depends on your luck to who you are staying with.
place is right smack in the middle of Chinatown. lots of food options and short walk to the port area and train station.

CanadaThe space was just a large room at the top of a staircase. The bunks were metal which were really uncomfortable and squeaked every time you moved even a little bit. The privacy curtains also had large gaps & were not wide enough - so when people inevitably walked by your bunk space, they could see in really easily. The bathrooms were the only place you could get 100% privacy as even the changing area of the showers were only closed off by a door and a couple inches of wall above that. Overall, if you need one night stay in Yokohama and aren't looking for comfort or privacy, it'll do.
The location was nice - centrally located in Yokohama Chinatown, close to transit, and only a 15 minute walk to the Gundam The staff were also welcoming and kind - both hostel and café

JapanI really don't like Japanese hostels which put ridiculous rules even in celebration holidays (new year) like "Do not speak after 9 pm" or "We will close facilities after 23:45". Hostel is the global culture to accept international tourists and share cheerful communication. Almost all of Japanese hostels are not following this principles and try to put us into "prison". While the prices of Japanese hostels are almost Western European and Scandinavian level, Japanese hostels have poorer services. Such Japanese policy "Please be unhappy together because other Japanese are unhappy" sucks. Moreover, Japanese staffs treat better to foreigners and behave shady to other Japanese. I personally do not stay in such a irrational prison-like hostels. I thought this hostel is run by Chinese because it is located in China Town. I double this hostel is hiring staffs who don't speak English and behave shady to my kind question. Hostel is NOT Japanese culture. If you don't follow hostel culture, please don't call your hostel "hostel".
Cozy and clean hostel. It has lockers. Good location.
