How guest reviews work
Each review score is between 1-10. To get the overall score that you see, we add up all the review scores we’ve received and divide that total by the number of review scores we’ve received. We are currently testing a weighted review system in Malta and Iceland (excluding hotel and vacation rental chains). For properties in these countries, the more recent the review, the bigger the impact on the total review score calculation. In addition, guests can give separate ‘subscores’ in crucial areas, such as location, cleanliness, staff, comfort, facilities, value for money and free Wi-Fi. Note that guests submit their subscores and their overall scores independently, so there’s no direct link between them.
You can review an Accommodation that you booked through our Platform if you stayed there or if you arrived at the property but didn’t actually stay there. To edit a review you’ve already submitted, please contact our Customer Service team.
We have people and automated systems that specialise in detecting fake reviews submitted to our Platform. If we find any, we delete them and, if necessary, take action against whoever is responsible.
Anyone else who spots something suspicious can always report it to our Customer Service team, so our Fraud team can investigate.
Ideally, we would publish every review we receive, whether positive or negative. However, we won’t display any review that includes or refers to (among other things):
- Politically sensitive comments
- Promotional content
- Illegal activities
- Personal or sensitive information (e.g. emails, phone numbers or credit card info)
- Swear words, sexual references, hate speech, discriminatory remarks, threats, or references to violence
- Spam and fake content
- Animal cruelty
- Impersonation (e.g. if the writer is claiming to be someone else)
- Any violation of our review guidelines.
To make sure reviews are relevant, we may only accept reviews that are submitted within 3 months of checking out, and we may stop showing reviews once they’re 36 months old – or if the Accommodation has a change of ownership.
An Accommodation may choose to reply to a review.
When you see multiple reviews, the most recent ones will be at the top, subject to a few other factors (what language a review is in, whether it’s just a rating or contains comments as well, etc.). If you like, you can sort and/or filter them (by time of year, review score, etc.).
We sometimes show external review scores from other well-known travel websites. We make it clear when we’ve done this.

Check out time at 10 a.m. is quite tight, particularly given that check-in is at 3 p.m.
Good breakfast and the rooms are quite large. The hotel is very modern. The coin washer/dryer combination was very usedul too. They lend out umbrellas for free on rainy days. Out the door and head left for 5 minutes there's a Family Mart with a bar in it that has a decent selection of Japanese whiskey, sake and gin. Highly recommended.

The hotel has excellent staff. The hotel provides free afternoon desserts and evening snacks. The hotel is very close to the Toji station (2 min walk), but it costs 180 yens (1 stop) to get to Kyoto station. We basically walked to Kyoto station (15-20 min) instead of taking the Toji station train. The hotel is also very close to a local supermarket (3 min walk) for cheap food; e.g., we can get a decent dinner box for 200-300 yens with the 30%-50% discount after 6-7 pm.

Across the road from Toji Station, which is just one station away from main Kyoto Station so easy to get anywhere. We didn’t book breakfast so cant comment about that, but hotel was near a major temple and was good

Waiting for the Washing machines, many people want to use it.
Easy to reach, room good size for Japan, clean, friendly, ice machine in the library. Breakfast is a good array of Western and japanese Things. Free Coffee/Tea all Day.

Would've loved bunk beds in the room to give my kids a bed each. But we had fun pushing two singles together and sharing a bigger bed for 3 (mum and two small kids). It really is a lovely hotel, clean and well looked after.
Loved how close it was to Toji station. It was also well located within walking distance to temples and shrines that were magnificent. The little restaurant a few doors up had the most amazing food. We also thought the sweets time (afternoon tea, coffee and snacks) offered in the library cafe (for free) each day was a lovely bonus! And a great way to connect. It felt nice and safe to have reception staff on to greet you and assist with check in, bookings or general questions. The staff were so kind and friendly. Great for our family with small kids (family of 4). The bathroom had a full bath which was great for kids to wash up each night.

Breakfast can be repetitive but it's only minor. Excellent hotel overall.

It would be nice if in the bathroom there was some trash bin. Also the lounge downstairs could be open longer - we had to leave at midnight. The coffee and other amenities can be closed, but it would be nice to seat and work downstairs.
The room was spacious and spotless. The bed was comfortable, as well as the desk and chairs. The bathroom was small, but well organized, so it was comfortable. The breakfast was really good. The nice thing was a free coffee for guests downstairs with unlimited access to coffee, tea, and some Japanese snacks. It is a new place, and the sound insulation was perfect.

Pillows were hard and there was no top sheet on the bed.
Very friendly and helpful staff. The room was good with a nice view over the street below. The Comfort Library on the reception floor was a very comfortable place to sit, with free tea and coffee and snacks provided.The location was good, a 20 minute walk from the station but with a subway station just next door. We tried 3 local restaurants very close to the hotel and they were all excellent, providing good food and beer at a very reasonable price.
