Each review score is between 1-10. To get the overall score that you see, we add up all the review scores we’ve received and divide that total by the number of review scores we’ve received. We are currently testing a weighted review system in Malta and Iceland (excluding hotel and vacation rental chains). For properties in these countries, the more recent the review, the bigger the impact on the total review score calculation. In addition, guests can give separate ‘subscores’ in crucial areas, such as location, cleanliness, staff, comfort, facilities, value for money and free Wi-Fi. Note that guests submit their subscores and their overall scores independently, so there’s no direct link between them.
You can review an Accommodation that you booked through our Platform if you stayed there or if you arrived at the property but didn’t actually stay there. To edit a review you’ve already submitted, please contact our Customer Service team.
We have people and automated systems that specialise in detecting fake reviews submitted to our Platform. If we find any, we delete them and, if necessary, take action against whoever is responsible.
Anyone else who spots something suspicious can always report it to our Customer Service team, so our Fraud team can investigate.
Ideally, we would publish every review we receive, whether positive or negative. However, we won’t display any review that includes or refers to (among other things):
To make sure reviews are relevant, we may only accept reviews that are submitted within 3 months of checking out, and we may stop showing reviews once they’re 36 months old – or if the Accommodation has a change of ownership.
An Accommodation may choose to reply to a review.
When you see multiple reviews, the most recent ones will be at the top, subject to a few other factors (what language a review is in, whether it’s just a rating or contains comments as well, etc.). If you like, you can sort and/or filter them (by time of year, review score, etc.).
We sometimes show external review scores from other well-known travel websites. We make it clear when we’ve done this.
These guidelines and standards aim to keep the content on Booking.com relevant and family-friendly without limiting expression of strong opinions. They are also applicable regardless of the sentiment of the comment.
Contributions should be travel related. The most helpful contributions are detailed and help others make better decisions. Please don’t include personal, political, ethical, or religious commentary. Promotional content will be removed and issues concerning Booking.com’s services should be routed to our Customer Service or Accommodation Service teams.
Contributions should be appropriate for a global audience. Please avoid using profanity or attempts to approximate profanity with creative spelling, in any language. Comments and media that include 'hate speech', discriminatory remarks, threats, sexually explicit remarks, violence, and the promotion of illegal activity are not permitted.
All content should be genuine and unique to the guest. Reviews are most valuable when they are original and unbiased. Your contribution should be yours. Booking.com property partners should not post on behalf of guests or offer incentives in exchange for reviews. Attempts to bring down the rating of a competitor by submitting a negative review will not be tolerated.
Respect the privacy of others. Booking.com will make an effort to obscure email addresses, telephone numbers, website addresses, social media accounts, and similar details.
The opinions expressed in contributions are those of Booking.com customers and properties and not of Booking.com. Booking.com does not accept responsibility or liability for any reviews or responses. Booking.com is a distributor (without any obligation to verify) and not a publisher of these comments and responses.
By default, reviews are sorted based on the date of the review and on additional criteria to display the most relevant reviews, including but not limited to: your language, reviews with text, and non-anonymous reviews. Additional sorting options may be available (by type of traveller, by score, etc.).

The hotel is a traditional Japanese style setting, with nice Japanese garden, onsen and meals. The entire experience was truly sensational, including the staff were friendly, capable of English speaking and attentive. My room size was sufficient for 3 people and the room layout was very user friendly. Overall, I rate it as a 5-star hotel experience.

United StatesEnglish proficiency of the staff is mixed, but the front desk has very good English. Therefore I recommend you inform the front desk of any food allergies on check-in.
Very unique experience. The rooms are huge and you are shown every detail when you check in. The staff is warm and friendly. The ambience of the Ryokan just screams RELAX and it was a great night for our last night in Japan. The onsen water quality was checked while we were bathing, personally I feel that the staff has put the controversy behind them. The room has the wonderful tatami smell. The set breakfast and dinner were a unique experience I'd recommend for any international traveller. Despite us not knowing any Japanese, the staff was very friendly and welcoming.

NetherlandsThe location was not ideal. It's a bit out of the way from the train station (15-20min walk), but that did not bother us too much. The wooden bathtub in our room did not look very clean, so we did not use it.
The staff at the reception was super helpful during our stay. Even though we ordered our breakfast too late and they were full, they still managed to make it work for us. They also kept our luggages the whole day after we checked out, because we wanted to see some sights. The common hot bath, and the garden are a big plus. The breakfast was cheap and full of tasty dishes, well prepared in a private room. I highly recommend this place.

I had a truly perfect experience! This renowned place boasts a rich history, with authentic and impeccably maintained Japanese historical ryokan. The staff are exceptionally well-trained and polite. Despite initial concerns about water cleanliness, their informative video on cleaning the onsen area put us at ease. Breakfast with my family was delightful, and the onsen water was truly amazing! Instantly, my skin felt smoother, and upon waking, it was wonderfully moisturized. If I return to Fukuoka, I wouldn't hesitate to revisit this gem. My parents also thoroughly enjoyed their stay. Many thanks to all!

United StatesThe location was a bit difficult to get to by walking. This was because you have to go through lots of narrow roads when walking from the train station.
The staff was kind and accommodating. The rooms were clean. The onsen was available to use in the evening and morning. Was able to get a taxi for us after we checked out. Overall a great place to stay.

AustraliaThe wifi was a bit weak in the room and some areas in the hotel but the card showing wifi info has already explained this and it is always accessible in the lounge room. Sometimes it’s good to relax without wifi accessible.
The breakfast and dinner were exquisite and the serving staff were extremely helpful and very friendly. The futon bed was made to perfection. I would also like to thank this receptionist who is a Korean/American mix (sorry I forgot her name). She is very helpful and explains everything clearly. It makes a huge difference for me who can’t speak Japanese. My stay in Daimaru Besso was very enjoyable and I hope to return back soon.

SingaporeNearby not much to explore except a hiking place, another few onsen and a mega donki which was not too far. I took a limousine bus here and have to carry the luggage down some stairs and drag it for some distance. I walked to the JR station after checking out, the distance was far and if you have a lot of luggage, I would strongly recommend that you take a taxi to the nearest train station.
The traditional ryokan was very nice, the Japanese ladies who attended to me during Check in and breakfast and dinner time were very friendly and tried their best to communicate with me even though they may not know how to speak English and i cannot speak Japanese. The onsen was big and quality of water was very good. It was quiet and I loved the stroll in the Japanese garden which was beautiful. The dinner was excellent and so delicious.

South KoreaThis was the best stay I have ever stayed. So much that I really want to gatekeep it. It was whimsical and out of a fairytale, looks exactly, if not better than the pictures. I really regret not staying longer. Room was super vintage beautiful and clean, very big too. Facilities are good, hot baths were immaculate. I am 200% going back. This place was the best decision I have made last year. Highly recommend❤️ thank you for making my stay memorable❤️✨

SingaporeThese are minor quibbles: The inn is not close to a train station, but you can reach it by bus and short walk. WiFi was occasionally patchy.
This is a 150 year old property which is lovingly preserved and maintained, with its own Japanese garden and onsen. Despite being near a main road, it is serene and private, you will hardly meet other guests except in passing (even in the onsen). The room was much larger than I expected, decorated in traditional style. The service is wonderful, including an elegant lounge with free coffee and green tea. Meals are delicious and beautifully presented; dinner is in a private room, and breakfast served in your own room.
