Each review score is between 1-10. To get the overall score that you see, we add up all the review scores we’ve received and divide that total by the number of review scores we’ve received. We are currently testing a weighted review system in Malta and Iceland (excluding hotel and vacation rental chains). For properties in these countries, the more recent the review, the bigger the impact on the total review score calculation. In addition, guests can give separate ‘subscores’ in crucial areas, such as location, cleanliness, staff, comfort, facilities, value for money and free Wi-Fi. Note that guests submit their subscores and their overall scores independently, so there’s no direct link between them.
You can review an Accommodation that you booked through our Platform if you stayed there or if you arrived at the property but didn’t actually stay there. To edit a review you’ve already submitted, please contact our Customer Service team.
We have people and automated systems that specialise in detecting fake reviews submitted to our Platform. If we find any, we delete them and, if necessary, take action against whoever is responsible.
Anyone else who spots something suspicious can always report it to our Customer Service team, so our Fraud team can investigate.
Ideally, we would publish every review we receive, whether positive or negative. However, we won’t display any review that includes or refers to (among other things):
To make sure reviews are relevant, we may only accept reviews that are submitted within 3 months of checking out, and we may stop showing reviews once they’re 36 months old – or if the Accommodation has a change of ownership.
An Accommodation may choose to reply to a review.
When you see multiple reviews, the most recent ones will be at the top, subject to a few other factors (what language a review is in, whether it’s just a rating or contains comments as well, etc.). If you like, you can sort and/or filter them (by time of year, review score, etc.).
We sometimes show external review scores from other well-known travel websites. We make it clear when we’ve done this.
These guidelines and standards aim to keep the content on Booking.com relevant and family-friendly without limiting expression of strong opinions. They are also applicable regardless of the sentiment of the comment.
Contributions should be travel related. The most helpful contributions are detailed and help others make better decisions. Please don’t include personal, political, ethical, or religious commentary. Promotional content will be removed and issues concerning Booking.com’s services should be routed to our Customer Service or Accommodation Service teams.
Contributions should be appropriate for a global audience. Please avoid using profanity or attempts to approximate profanity with creative spelling, in any language. Comments and media that include 'hate speech', discriminatory remarks, threats, sexually explicit remarks, violence, and the promotion of illegal activity are not permitted.
All content should be genuine and unique to the guest. Reviews are most valuable when they are original and unbiased. Your contribution should be yours. Booking.com property partners should not post on behalf of guests or offer incentives in exchange for reviews. Attempts to bring down the rating of a competitor by submitting a negative review will not be tolerated.
Respect the privacy of others. Booking.com will make an effort to obscure email addresses, telephone numbers, website addresses, social media accounts, and similar details.
The opinions expressed in contributions are those of Booking.com customers and properties and not of Booking.com. Booking.com does not accept responsibility or liability for any reviews or responses. Booking.com is a distributor (without any obligation to verify) and not a publisher of these comments and responses.
By default, reviews are sorted based on the date of the review and on additional criteria to display the most relevant reviews, including but not limited to: your language, reviews with text, and non-anonymous reviews. Additional sorting options may be available (by type of traveller, by score, etc.).

The loverly couple that own the hotel were amazing and did everything they could to ensure I had a great time. The food was amazing and I would highly recommend staying here. It's located only a 2min walk from a main strip with plenty or restaurants and bars. It was super easy to get to and from the slopes and great to recover in the onsen after

AustraliaLoved our stay at El Mayo the couple who run to place are both legends. The shuttle bus is so handy and they do their best to take care of all the guests even when we came back from the slopes with injuries, they had handy little medical heating patches which was highly appreciated. They also went out of their way to check on everyone after the earthquake 🙂

AustraliaThere are no tissues or tea or coffee in the room. There was also no coffee, tea, water or anything in the kotatsu area this time. There was coffee, coffee lollies and water last time we stayed and I suggested they add tea as an option too but this time there was only a note about stopping the spread of coronavirus and please do not eat or drink in the kotatsu area. Kinda sad as one of my favourite memories from last time was having a couple of drinks before dinner under the kotatsu and then having a few waters under the kotatsu when we got back. I hope they bring back coffee, water and tea please in kotatsu area in the future. There is no yukata to wear to the onsen. The beds are a little hard. There was a wierd situation in the entranceway of our room where all the doors opened into the same spot (cupboard doors, bathroom door, room door) and they would hit each other and you would get stuck between them. This must just be with some rooms though as we didnt experience that last time. The ski locker room downstairs has locks for your skis and boots but they dont seem to fit most skiis (they are too thin) maybe only old style racing skis. And the boot locks were hard to figure out too. They might only work for snowboard boots.
This was our second time staying at El Mayo. Last time was just before corona and it was such a great stay we had to come back. The owners are so lovely. I cried both times when we left. This time we tried their breakfast and it was a nice mix of western and japanese. We called from the bus terminal when we arrived and got a pickup. We also got dropped off again when we checked out. They run a free bus to happo one every day and there is a bus stop right out the front to both 47/goryu and iiwatake (which are free). Its a short walk to base camp for busses to other resorts (some paid and some free). Its also a short walk to echoland for dinner or cut back down a back road into happo town if you feel like it, its only about a 15min walk. The wifi was good. They also have a coin laundry and detergent for sale at reception for 50yen. Theres a convenience store/alcohol shop down the end of the street. They have a couple of cats that are a bit shy but i was so proud i got to pat them this time! They like to come out at night and sleep next to the heaters in the kotatsu area. They also have western rooms if you dont want the traditional Japanese tatami futon rooms but we love traditional style rooms. We had a private bathroom in our room aswell.

AustraliaMy daughter and I had an excellent week staying at El Mayo. The couple who run the hotel were absolutely lovely, and went out of their way to make us feel welcome, and help wherever they could. They picked us up from the bus terminal, and dropped us off to Hakuba Base Camp when we were leaving. And the traditional japanese breakfasts each morning where just amazing! We also enjoyed the onsite onsen, which was almost always empty in evenings. The property is a little old, but it was all beautifully clean, and the location for skiing Happo One and Goryu/47 is fantastic. We'd love to come back for more - highly recommended!

AustraliaProperty is exactly as describes and what you pay for.
Great location - ski in ski out with convenient drop off by hotel EL Mayo in the morning and return via free shuttle with stop located next door by the ski resorts (Happo One and Hakuba47). There is a drying room to store your ski equipment, which is located downstairs. Property owners are kind and generous, offing free pick up on arrival and drop off on departure. Breakfast option available at a fee - highly recommend, great feed before hitting the slopes. Onsen available - great after a long day on the slopes. Separate men and woman’s onsen. Short walking distance to Ecoland - many great restaurants around (Marutama Ramen & Bar is highly recommended)

AustraliaThe most wonderful hosts you could ever ask for - nothing was too much trouble, and went out of their way to make our holiday fabulous. And the breakfasts were fantastic - traditional, and presented so wonderfully. But you need a serious appetite to finish it all. And the Onsen to finish the day after a hard days skiing was just perfect.

We had an amazing stay at Hotel El Mayo. The staff were very friendly and helpful. The rooms were warm and cosy and the hotel was just a short walk from local restaurants and bars. The staff kindly dropped us at the bus stop when we needed. We used the drying room and laundry which were very convenient for us after a day on the slopes. Thank you for having us!

Indiaroom was on 3F, had to climb stairs. Especially after a tiring day at the slopes, had to climb stairs from the basement to 3F since the onsen and laundry is on basement. Also it would have been good if the breakfast was included in the package instead of paying seperately.
location was great. very close to Echoland. lots of restaurants around. Shuttle bus stop right outside the hotel. Breakfast was in Japanese style and very nice. Great that the hotel has an onsen.
