How guest reviews work
Each review score is between 1-10. To get the overall score that you see, we add up all the review scores we’ve received and divide that total by the number of review scores we’ve received. We are currently testing a weighted review system in Malta and Iceland (excluding hotel and vacation rental chains). For properties in these countries, the more recent the review, the bigger the impact on the total review score calculation. In addition, guests can give separate ‘subscores’ in crucial areas, such as location, cleanliness, staff, comfort, facilities, value for money and free Wi-Fi. Note that guests submit their subscores and their overall scores independently, so there’s no direct link between them.
You can review an Accommodation that you booked through our Platform if you stayed there or if you arrived at the property but didn’t actually stay there. To edit a review you’ve already submitted, please contact our Customer Service team.
We have people and automated systems that specialise in detecting fake reviews submitted to our Platform. If we find any, we delete them and, if necessary, take action against whoever is responsible.
Anyone else who spots something suspicious can always report it to our Customer Service team, so our Fraud team can investigate.
Ideally, we would publish every review we receive, whether positive or negative. However, we won’t display any review that includes or refers to (among other things):
- Politically sensitive comments
- Promotional content
- Illegal activities
- Personal or sensitive information (e.g. emails, phone numbers or credit card info)
- Swear words, sexual references, hate speech, discriminatory remarks, threats, or references to violence
- Spam and fake content
- Animal cruelty
- Impersonation (e.g. if the writer is claiming to be someone else)
- Any violation of our review guidelines.
To make sure reviews are relevant, we may only accept reviews that are submitted within 3 months of checking out, and we may stop showing reviews once they’re 36 months old – or if the Accommodation has a change of ownership.
An Accommodation may choose to reply to a review.
When you see multiple reviews, the most recent ones will be at the top, subject to a few other factors (what language a review is in, whether it’s just a rating or contains comments as well, etc.). If you like, you can sort and/or filter them (by time of year, review score, etc.).
We sometimes show external review scores from other well-known travel websites. We make it clear when we’ve done this.

I'm used to having a kettle in the hotel room but this time I didn't have one. Also, the light switch is far from the bed. So I needed to get up to turn the lights on or off. But overall it was good.
It's near the train station. Also pretty cheat and there's self checkout.

Good location close to the station after arriving from other centres and before leaving for Kansai Airport. Good connections to buses to the major sites

No coin laundry at this hotel. Encountered a bogus fire alarm late at night during my stay. The automatic fire alarm did not announce in English, and the staff never gave any announcements over the PA system, in Japanese or English, leaving the many foreign guests staying extremely confused. After the staff finished handling the fire alarm, they also did not give any reason or apology in English to the foreign guests present, and only addressed the issue in Japanese. I would not feel safe staying at this hotel if I did not understand Japanese. I also would not recommend any foreign guests that do not understand Japanese to stay here for safety reasons.
Nice location, very close to the station. Free breakfast for this price point, even if it's toast and jam is appreciated. Check-in/out process is smooth and efficient.

Great location, 10 mins walk from Kyoto station. Good room, larger bathroom compared to other Japanese hotels I have stayed at, simple free breakfast (bread or ramen, tea/coffee) in the mornings.

It could have been better if the checkout times were a bit longer like 11am. I was charged for staying another hour. It would be nice to be more well informed and hope the staff will be able to stress-out the importance if checking out on time to avoid extra fees. I was only informed after i exceeded. Check-in time was also a bit longer than usual
The room was cozy and just had your basic needs. Loved how clean it is and how convenient it is to come back and forth from Kyoto station. The location is just perfect.

Super nice staff and clean rooms. Simple and free breakfast is also offered every morning till 9am. It would be nice if there’s a drinking fountain to refill water bottles.

The single room is exceptionally small. As a muslim, I can’t even stand and pray. That’s how tiny was the room. No luggage storage facility after check out.

Room is quite small, since the price is competitive, I won't complaint about that. I think it's a good deal with low budget.

The Excellence is good value for money. I would stay again. My room was comfortable and super clean. Good shower and lovely toiletries. Strong Wi-Fi. Breakfast (included in the price) was simple but satisfying: toast, noodles, soup, juice, tea, and coffee. The location is good, just a 10-minute walk from Kyoto Station.

Room light is not bright enough as my expect. Luggage storage only for income check in travelers.

The staff, particularly Kataro Kamite, were very helpful and friendly. Yes, the rooms are not big but they are very clean and comfortable. I would be happy to stay at this hotel again. I would request a room facing the front as the windows are not opaque, as they are in the back.
