Each review score is between 1-10. To get the overall score that you see, we add up all the review scores we’ve received and divide that total by the number of review scores we’ve received. We are currently testing a weighted review system in Malta and Iceland (excluding hotel and vacation rental chains). For properties in these countries, the more recent the review, the bigger the impact on the total review score calculation. In addition, guests can give separate ‘subscores’ in crucial areas, such as location, cleanliness, staff, comfort, facilities, value for money and free Wi-Fi. Note that guests submit their subscores and their overall scores independently, so there’s no direct link between them.
You can review an Accommodation that you booked through our Platform if you stayed there or if you arrived at the property but didn’t actually stay there. To edit a review you’ve already submitted, please contact our Customer Service team.
We have people and automated systems that specialise in detecting fake reviews submitted to our Platform. If we find any, we delete them and, if necessary, take action against whoever is responsible.
Anyone else who spots something suspicious can always report it to our Customer Service team, so our Fraud team can investigate.
Ideally, we would publish every review we receive, whether positive or negative. However, we won’t display any review that includes or refers to (among other things):
To make sure reviews are relevant, we may only accept reviews that are submitted within 3 months of checking out, and we may stop showing reviews once they’re 36 months old – or if the Accommodation has a change of ownership.
An Accommodation may choose to reply to a review.
When you see multiple reviews, the most recent ones will be at the top, subject to a few other factors (what language a review is in, whether it’s just a rating or contains comments as well, etc.). If you like, you can sort and/or filter them (by time of year, review score, etc.).
We sometimes show external review scores from other well-known travel websites. We make it clear when we’ve done this.
These guidelines and standards aim to keep the content on Booking.com relevant and family-friendly without limiting expression of strong opinions. They are also applicable regardless of the sentiment of the comment.
Contributions should be travel related. The most helpful contributions are detailed and help others make better decisions. Please don’t include personal, political, ethical, or religious commentary. Promotional content will be removed and issues concerning Booking.com’s services should be routed to our Customer Service or Accommodation Service teams.
Contributions should be appropriate for a global audience. Please avoid using profanity or attempts to approximate profanity with creative spelling, in any language. Comments and media that include 'hate speech', discriminatory remarks, threats, sexually explicit remarks, violence, and the promotion of illegal activity are not permitted.
All content should be genuine and unique to the guest. Reviews are most valuable when they are original and unbiased. Your contribution should be yours. Booking.com property partners should not post on behalf of guests or offer incentives in exchange for reviews. Attempts to bring down the rating of a competitor by submitting a negative review will not be tolerated.
Respect the privacy of others. Booking.com will make an effort to obscure email addresses, telephone numbers, website addresses, social media accounts, and similar details.
The opinions expressed in contributions are those of Booking.com customers and properties and not of Booking.com. Booking.com does not accept responsibility or liability for any reviews or responses. Booking.com is a distributor (without any obligation to verify) and not a publisher of these comments and responses.
By default, reviews are sorted based on the date of the review and on additional criteria to display the most relevant reviews, including but not limited to: your language, reviews with text, and non-anonymous reviews. Additional sorting options may be available (by type of traveller, by score, etc.).

AustraliaThe building is dated and not cleaned well. We did get an ensuite bathroom but it was very small.
There were good views of Mt Fuji from the dining room, the upstairs common room and the two private onsens. The food prepared by the kitchen was very well presented and the chef took a lot of effort. The carrot soup was divine and the piece of duck was cooked just right. The dessert was also delicious.

JapanSimple and cozy little B&B near Oishi Park. Quiet, with a nice sento, and located around the best area of Kawaguchiko - away from the swarm of tourists around the city center. Staff attentive and kind.

JapanThe rooms felt surprisingly outdated and old, with the bathrooms being quite small, even for Japanese standards. The bedframes were beautiful, but a bit creaky which might bother some.
There was excellent service throughout our stay. The meals, dinner and breakfast which were included in our room charge, were also excellent. While the location was a bit further from the main train station, it gave the whole property an amazing view of Mt Fuji, which the place took full advantage of with huge windows in shared facilities like the restaurant and lounge. The private onsen, available for booking as a part of the room package, was also nice.

AustraliaThe sink taps in my room dripped, didn't make any noise but I didn't want water to be wasted
Peaceful location on the far side of Lake Kawaguchi, Coco deserves the world for her kindness and ability to accommodate to foreign visitors(best of luck with your Duolingo!). The private bath that is complementary was wonderfu, as well as the one in my room, you can buy alcohol to bring in and have a party to yourself for 50 mins and breakfast was a FULL eggs Benedict with an entree of tomato based pork soup, finished by fresh ground filter coffee or tea - all of which was DELICIOUS.

AustraliaThe first thing that struck us when we arrived at night to check in after a long travel was that the location has a few downsides, you’re a way off any other proper options for dinner on that side of the lake, and the busses finish pretty early around 6:30pm. We made do with a nearby hostel/bar serving pretty nice basic meals and the Yamazaki convenience store for cup noodles, but that was all you could really do at night if you didn’t want to spent the money and have the fancy in-house dinner. The hotel itself is pretty old and dainty looking, some might find it fitting and charming for a country hotel type arrangement, but it didn’t quite come across that way to us. The room was at least spacious enough to lay out luggage, unlike most metro area Japanese hotels, but it was otherwise pretty underwhelming. The open air bath in the room which doubled as the shower definitely wasn’t as nice as it seemed like it would be in pictures, there was a pretty strong sulfur-type smell coming from ours and we avoided it in favour of just using the private onsen time each night.
Reception was fantastic, helpful for anything needed and their English was good enough to get everything sorted. We didn’t try any dinner or lunch stuff but the breakfasts were very nice. The private onsens are great, we were able to book a 40 minute slot each night we stayed, and it was much more preferable as a travelling couple than having to split up and go to gender separated public baths, felt like a great experience. We were extremely lucky with weather, and the views of Fuji from our room and the restaurant were genuinely exceptional, I can’t imagine a better vantage point, especially if you walk over to the nearby flower garden on the water in the morning.

Incredible hotel! We booked this hotel located near the lake of Kawaguchi for a two night stay during sakura season mid April. Across the two nights we were one of only three guest parties, which surprised us considering the unmatched views of mount Fuji from our bedroom, bathroom and the restaurant. We thought it would be much busier although we learnt the area is much less commercialised than the likes of big cities Tokyo, Osaka and Kyoto, and so retains an air of serenity. The hotel had bike rental for a reasonable fee which we utilised to lap the lake which I would highly recommend. And then dinner, wow! The food served was absolutely exquisite and honestly felt as though we were at a Michelin restaurant. Service matched the food standards both at meal time and whenever we stopped by the front desk with enquiries and requests. The hotel has two onsen style bathing suites that can be booked for private use which my partner and I took full advantage of. We felt as though we had won the lottery with this hotel - how were more people not aware of this seemingly hidden gem! If you stumble upon this review I implore you to book now! You will not be disappointed.

AustraliaWe had the pleasure of staying at the Auberge Mermaid last week for 3 nights and it was by far our favourite accommodation in Japan. It is away from the large crowds and is in a very peaceful area, however, it is a 5min walk from the bus stop (comes approx every 15mins) making it very convenient to get into the towns centre. The staff were so kind and accommodating. My travel partner was injured prior to our trip and the staff were very understanding and flexible with our change of dates. Upon arrival we were greeted very warmly and shown to our cosy room. There is a lovely area with views of Mt Fuji with tables and a microwave. Each night you have 50mins in a large private onsen. This was incredibly relaxing and definitely a highlight of our stay. The best part was definitely the food. It was outstanding!! The very friendly chef Hitoshi is brilliant and everything he cooks tastes amazing. Dinner is a 5 course meal that changes every night. Over the course of our stay we had snapper, Japanese black beef, salmon, scallops, duck, shrimp and more! Every night we had a different tasty soup and dessert. It was such a great value for money and we looked forward to breakfast and dinner every day! Highly recommend booking breakfast and dinner while you stay! A special thank you to all of the kind staff, especially Hitoshi for all of your help, recommendations and kindness throughout our stay. We will definitely be back at the Auberge Mermaid on our next Japan trip.

PhilippinesThe view! A short walk behind the property is the shore of Lake Kawaguchiko, which gives you an excellent view of Mt. Fuji (you can also see it from the dining area and lounge). The staff are very kind and went the extra mile to help us. For example, our first night we didn't know the nearby restaurants closed at 5:30 pm and we hadn't reserved spots for dinner, so the reception staff helped us get a taxi to bring us to the nearest 7-11, wait for us, and bring us back with food for our parents.

ThailandThe hotel is dated and old, so don’t expect anything new. Our room was very dusty and dirty! The air con was working fine but the filter was very dusty. Things are old inside. After 6pm, there is nothing to do around the hotel, so you need to get a taxi / bus to move around and get something to eat.
The Hotel is located near Oishi Park, which is a great spot for taking pictures of the Mount Fuji. The room is decent size with a original Japanese style bathroom. They offer you a hot bath (50 minutes) in a private room (1 per day).
