Each review score is between 1-10. To get the overall score that you see, we add up all the review scores we’ve received and divide that total by the number of review scores we’ve received. We are currently testing a weighted review system in Malta and Iceland (excluding hotel and vacation rental chains). For properties in these countries, the more recent the review, the bigger the impact on the total review score calculation. In addition, guests can give separate ‘subscores’ in crucial areas, such as location, cleanliness, staff, comfort, facilities, value for money and free Wi-Fi. Note that guests submit their subscores and their overall scores independently, so there’s no direct link between them.
You can review an Accommodation that you booked through our Platform if you stayed there or if you arrived at the property but didn’t actually stay there. To edit a review you’ve already submitted, please contact our Customer Service team.
We have people and automated systems that specialise in detecting fake reviews submitted to our Platform. If we find any, we delete them and, if necessary, take action against whoever is responsible.
Anyone else who spots something suspicious can always report it to our Customer Service team, so our Fraud team can investigate.
Ideally, we would publish every review we receive, whether positive or negative. However, we won’t display any review that includes or refers to (among other things):
To make sure reviews are relevant, we may only accept reviews that are submitted within 3 months of checking out, and we may stop showing reviews once they’re 36 months old – or if the Accommodation has a change of ownership.
An Accommodation may choose to reply to a review.
When you see multiple reviews, the most recent ones will be at the top, subject to a few other factors (what language a review is in, whether it’s just a rating or contains comments as well, etc.). If you like, you can sort and/or filter them (by time of year, review score, etc.).
We sometimes show external review scores from other well-known travel websites. We make it clear when we’ve done this.
These guidelines and standards aim to keep the content on Booking.com relevant and family-friendly without limiting expression of strong opinions. They are also applicable regardless of the sentiment of the comment.
Contributions should be travel related. The most helpful contributions are detailed and help others make better decisions. Please don’t include personal, political, ethical, or religious commentary. Promotional content will be removed and issues concerning Booking.com’s services should be routed to our Customer Service or Accommodation Service teams.
Contributions should be appropriate for a global audience. Please avoid using profanity or attempts to approximate profanity with creative spelling, in any language. Comments and media that include 'hate speech', discriminatory remarks, threats, sexually explicit remarks, violence, and the promotion of illegal activity are not permitted.
All content should be genuine and unique to the guest. Reviews are most valuable when they are original and unbiased. Your contribution should be yours. Booking.com property partners should not post on behalf of guests or offer incentives in exchange for reviews. Attempts to bring down the rating of a competitor by submitting a negative review will not be tolerated.
Respect the privacy of others. Booking.com will make an effort to obscure email addresses, telephone numbers, website addresses, social media accounts, and similar details.
The opinions expressed in contributions are those of Booking.com customers and properties and not of Booking.com. Booking.com does not accept responsibility or liability for any reviews or responses. Booking.com is a distributor (without any obligation to verify) and not a publisher of these comments and responses.
By default, reviews are sorted based on the date of the review and on additional criteria to display the most relevant reviews, including but not limited to: your language, reviews with text, and non-anonymous reviews. Additional sorting options may be available (by type of traveller, by score, etc.).

United Arab EmiratesI loved the Fujiya so much that I thought to myself “next time you come to Japan, you’re spending your entire stay there”. This was the first time I was traveling solo, so obviously some blunders were expected—the worst of which was me forgetting my backpack on the bus! I was near tears, because I can’t speak a word of Japanese, but the receptionist at Fujiya quickly helped me call the bus company and located the bag! The concierge then arranged for a taxi to take me to and from the station to retrieve it on the same day. I was honestly amazed at the service and how kind all the staff were. The room itself was stunning. Mine was in the Forest Wing, overlooking the forest side of the hotel (which made for a stunning view to wake up to!). But although the room and en suite bath were absolutely lovely, the star of the show was definitely the Onsen. I tried both the breakfasts (Western and Japanese) at The Main Dining Room and Kikka-So, and the staff in both were so attentive when I informed them I couldn’t have pork or alcohol. It’s always something I’m hesitant to bring up at hotels, but they honestly went above and beyond to ensure I was comfortable and I couldn’t be more grateful for that! All in all, would give more than 10 stars if I could.

United KingdomThe restaurants were quite expensive and fancy for us but there was limited choice of restaurants in the area. Would recommend if you like fine dining.
Very nice hotel and rooms in a huge complex, with a lovely garden, big onsens and bakery. Located along the bus route from the main train station and we also got the train which was a 5 min walk away to the Hakone ropeway. Would love to stay here again!

LatviaFood at the in-house Japanese restaurant was good quality but over-priced.
Beautiful, historic hotel. Really enjoyed using the onsen facilities which were very quiet. Superb breakfasts. Very close to the local railway station which helped with travelling to the different towns and villages on the route.

SingaporeWe were disappointed that there was no availability at the Japanese restaurant. The other restaurants are ok, but as tourists in Japan we'd prefer local food. The other restaurants are ok, but not remarkable for us, and pricey.
Nice atmosphere thanks to the historical charm of the hotel. Great to have an onsen on location. Spacious room. And perfectly located to do the Hakone loop.

United StatesWe found the meals to be a bit overpriced for what we had. We ate in the Fujiya Room for breakfast and dinner, bought some items in the bakery and ordered room service one night. Unfortunately, we were disappointed each time.
The room was very comfortable and the little extras were appreciated. The option of having a mineral bath in the room was lovely. The gardens were beautiful. The coffee/beverage lounge was a bonus. It's location makes it easy to access the three types of transport that allow beautiful views of Mt. Fuji.

United KingdomThe hotel isn’t too difficult to get to via the mountain train and bus, but getting to sites in Hakone from the hotel can be a little challenging as there is lots of uphill walking involved on many routes to Gora. The buses can also be extremely busy, though this is not the fault of the hotel. There are also relatively few places to eat nearby, but this would not stop us from visiting the hotel again.
We had an amazing short stay at the Fujiya; what a hotel! Both the exteriors and interiors of the buildings are absolutely stunning with a real old-school vibe throughout. In addition to the gorgeous hotel rooms themselves, there are lots of rooms to sit in and enjoy the scenery. The onsen is also beautiful, and everywhere is spotless. The museum of the hotel is also very interesting, and the garden is exquisite. We stayed at the Fujiya to enjoy Hakone, but we almost ended up not leaving the hotel because we enjoyed it so much! Furthermore, the staff were extremely polite and accommodating; from the porters helping us with our luggage, to the reception staff and cleaners. They really helped add to the lovely experience. We would definitely recommend this hotel to those looking for a unique and memorable stay in the beautiful Hakone.

A property with a long history, clean and large rooms. Great service. You can enjoy onsen in the comfort of your room (natural spring water attached to each bath). We had Kaiseki dinner at the restaurant which was superb!
