Each review score is between 1-10. To get the overall score that you see, we add up all the review scores we’ve received and divide that total by the number of review scores we’ve received. We are currently testing a weighted review system in Malta and Iceland (excluding hotel and vacation rental chains). For properties in these countries, the more recent the review, the bigger the impact on the total review score calculation. In addition, guests can give separate ‘subscores’ in crucial areas, such as location, cleanliness, staff, comfort, facilities, value for money and free Wi-Fi. Note that guests submit their subscores and their overall scores independently, so there’s no direct link between them.
You can review an Accommodation that you booked through our Platform if you stayed there or if you arrived at the property but didn’t actually stay there. To edit a review you’ve already submitted, please contact our Customer Service team.
We have people and automated systems that specialise in detecting fake reviews submitted to our Platform. If we find any, we delete them and, if necessary, take action against whoever is responsible.
Anyone else who spots something suspicious can always report it to our Customer Service team, so our Fraud team can investigate.
Ideally, we would publish every review we receive, whether positive or negative. However, we won’t display any review that includes or refers to (among other things):
To make sure reviews are relevant, we may only accept reviews that are submitted within 3 months of checking out, and we may stop showing reviews once they’re 36 months old – or if the Accommodation has a change of ownership.
An Accommodation may choose to reply to a review.
When you see multiple reviews, the most recent ones will be at the top, subject to a few other factors (what language a review is in, whether it’s just a rating or contains comments as well, etc.). If you like, you can sort and/or filter them (by time of year, review score, etc.).
We sometimes show external review scores from other well-known travel websites. We make it clear when we’ve done this.
These guidelines and standards aim to keep the content on Booking.com relevant and family-friendly without limiting expression of strong opinions. They are also applicable regardless of the sentiment of the comment.
Contributions should be travel related. The most helpful contributions are detailed and help others make better decisions. Please don’t include personal, political, ethical, or religious commentary. Promotional content will be removed and issues concerning Booking.com’s services should be routed to our Customer Service or Accommodation Service teams.
Contributions should be appropriate for a global audience. Please avoid using profanity or attempts to approximate profanity with creative spelling, in any language. Comments and media that include 'hate speech', discriminatory remarks, threats, sexually explicit remarks, violence, and the promotion of illegal activity are not permitted.
All content should be genuine and unique to the guest. Reviews are most valuable when they are original and unbiased. Your contribution should be yours. Booking.com property partners should not post on behalf of guests or offer incentives in exchange for reviews. Attempts to bring down the rating of a competitor by submitting a negative review will not be tolerated.
Respect the privacy of others. Booking.com will make an effort to obscure email addresses, telephone numbers, website addresses, social media accounts, and similar details.
The opinions expressed in contributions are those of Booking.com customers and properties and not of Booking.com. Booking.com does not accept responsibility or liability for any reviews or responses. Booking.com is a distributor (without any obligation to verify) and not a publisher of these comments and responses.
By default, reviews are sorted based on the date of the review and on additional criteria to display the most relevant reviews, including but not limited to: your language, reviews with text, and non-anonymous reviews. Additional sorting options may be available (by type of traveller, by score, etc.).

TaiwanNope.
Wonderful location for visiting Matsumoto Toge and Onigajio. If you fancy walking, it takes around 15min to walk to Kumanoshi (by passing through the tunnel. The walk was fun) and Odomari train station. Moreover, the key value is the sweet, wonderful staff in the guesthouse. The father, mother and sun are all very hospitable and considerable. I had a very good time staying there ☺️ The environment is clean and facilities are all well maintained. 2-3min by walk to be at laundromat if you need to. Btw, the cheesecake they offered while checkin is really delicious!

CanadaA bit tricky to find, Google routed us there the long way, if you're coming by JR train, get off at Kumanoshi station, not the Odomari!
Spotlessly maintained, beautiful retro/modernist features, lovely, helpful hosts! We were greeted with complimentary cheesecake and cofee, given all sorts of helpful advice on getting into town, where to eat, routes for hiking and offered rides to train station. So kind, and such a dramatice and memorable location.

GermanyFor myself everything was fine. One noticeable thing was that the toilet in my room didn't have a washlet. You can hear a bit of sound from the road outside, but it's not very loud, even when the road is wet.
I'm not easily excited, but this is probably the first time I give a 10 out of 10 (and would give it 11 if I could). The staff is really exceptional (even for Japanese standards), very polite, very kind and very considerate. The building was built in the 70s (it's been a family business ever since) so it got the flair from that time (even the faucets on the washbasin in the bathroom seem to be from that era). Everything is well kept and working without problems. And of course verything is clean. It's located just next to the two tunnels leading towards the city, so it's conveniently accessed by car (be sure to slow down when exiting the tunnel or you'll miss it). By foot it's 20 minutes and only one of the tunnels can be used - I'd recommend a taxi. For foreigners: The staffs English is a bit limited, but it's sufficient for basic communication. If you want an authentic stay with the kind of atmosphere you might have seen in an older movie: This is your place to go.

SingaporeNothing! There were some comments by other guests about the noise from the highway. I can only say that I'm a light sleeper, but I slept like a log. The secret is earplugs. Do note that there's nothing fancy about this place, and it's 100% authentic and very Japanese.
This place is just a stone's throw away from world-class attractions. The hosts were extremely warm, helpful, and sincere. They really just want to make sure that we have a great time. We had such a wonderful time basking in the nature here.

AustraliaNothing!
The family was so friendly, kind and generous. They picked us up and dropped us off at Kumanoshi station, took us to the supermarket to buy dinner and gave us home made cheesecake and juice when we arrived! We stayed in the family room, which was a separate building above the main building. We had a fantastic view over the bay. The walk around the spectacular coastline (Onigajo) started just across the road.

GermanyThe owners are incredibly friendly and greeted me with a home made cheese cake and orange juice. Yummy! I am on a cycle across Japan and we talked a lot about it. We managed despite my broken Japanese and the language barrier. For my departure at 5am they woke up early to see me off and take a few pictures. I was also given a self-made trinket of the guesthouse mascot, which is now attached to my bike to my remaining journey. Thank you so much! It was a pleasure staying with you.
