Each review score is between 1-10. To get the overall score that you see, we add up all the review scores we’ve received and divide that total by the number of review scores we’ve received. We are currently testing a weighted review system in Malta and Iceland (excluding hotel and vacation rental chains). For properties in these countries, the more recent the review, the bigger the impact on the total review score calculation. In addition, guests can give separate ‘subscores’ in crucial areas, such as location, cleanliness, staff, comfort, facilities, value for money and free Wi-Fi. Note that guests submit their subscores and their overall scores independently, so there’s no direct link between them.
You can review an Accommodation that you booked through our Platform if you stayed there or if you arrived at the property but didn’t actually stay there. To edit a review you’ve already submitted, please contact our Customer Service team.
We have people and automated systems that specialise in detecting fake reviews submitted to our Platform. If we find any, we delete them and, if necessary, take action against whoever is responsible.
Anyone else who spots something suspicious can always report it to our Customer Service team, so our Fraud team can investigate.
Ideally, we would publish every review we receive, whether positive or negative. However, we won’t display any review that includes or refers to (among other things):
To make sure reviews are relevant, we may only accept reviews that are submitted within 3 months of checking out, and we may stop showing reviews once they’re 36 months old – or if the Accommodation has a change of ownership.
An Accommodation may choose to reply to a review.
When you see multiple reviews, the most recent ones will be at the top, subject to a few other factors (what language a review is in, whether it’s just a rating or contains comments as well, etc.). If you like, you can sort and/or filter them (by time of year, review score, etc.).
We sometimes show external review scores from other well-known travel websites. We make it clear when we’ve done this.
These guidelines and standards aim to keep the content on Booking.com relevant and family-friendly without limiting expression of strong opinions. They are also applicable regardless of the sentiment of the comment.
Contributions should be travel related. The most helpful contributions are detailed and help others make better decisions. Please don’t include personal, political, ethical, or religious commentary. Promotional content will be removed and issues concerning Booking.com’s services should be routed to our Customer Service or Accommodation Service teams.
Contributions should be appropriate for a global audience. Please avoid using profanity or attempts to approximate profanity with creative spelling, in any language. Comments and media that include 'hate speech', discriminatory remarks, threats, sexually explicit remarks, violence, and the promotion of illegal activity are not permitted.
All content should be genuine and unique to the guest. Reviews are most valuable when they are original and unbiased. Your contribution should be yours. Booking.com property partners should not post on behalf of guests or offer incentives in exchange for reviews. Attempts to bring down the rating of a competitor by submitting a negative review will not be tolerated.
Respect the privacy of others. Booking.com will make an effort to obscure email addresses, telephone numbers, website addresses, social media accounts, and similar details.
The opinions expressed in contributions are those of Booking.com customers and properties and not of Booking.com. Booking.com does not accept responsibility or liability for any reviews or responses. Booking.com is a distributor (without any obligation to verify) and not a publisher of these comments and responses.
By default, reviews are sorted based on the date of the review and on additional criteria to display the most relevant reviews, including but not limited to: your language, reviews with text, and non-anonymous reviews. Additional sorting options may be available (by type of traveller, by score, etc.).

United KingdomLoved the tatami dorm, it felt really special. Also had plenty of social space (although it was very quiet). Perfect location - SO many restaurants and shops around and super close to the train station as well

3-4 minutes from Kagoshima chuo station. Right in the middle of town, shops and restaurants are aplenty. Staff were very nice and made me feel welcome. Works pretty well.

United KingdomThe whole 3rd floor had a weird cabbage-y smell. Also, the windows don't open and no light comes through, making the place a bit claustrophobic. The hostel is well equipped, but the whole building and everything in it just feels old and past its expiry date. If you are a budget traveller who stays for a couple of nights, this probably shouldn't bother you. My only real issue was that the smell and the old feel of things, plus the long hairs I kept finding everywhere made me feel like the place is not as clean as it should be.
The location of this hostel is amazing, close to the station, close to tram that ges to ferry port and has supermarket and many restaurants nearby. The room is spacious. The cafe downstairs is very nice and they gave me free coffee vouchers (although note that the cafe opens at 11am).

BrazilThe tap was outside of the toilet, which was strange to wash your hands. And my roof light was to low and I slammed my head several times while awaking.

CanadaNo towel in the private room. I didn’t sleep since you hear everything and someone was up till 3am banging doors, in the kitchen and showering. Possibly I had the worst room next to the kitchen and across from the bathroom, I heard everything even the toilet and the slamming door woke me out of a deep sleep twice. Maybe it would have been better on the 3rd floor where the female toilet and showers are and the rooms. And the bedroom door window lets all the light in from the hallway so the room never gets dark. I tried to cover it. Eye shade and ear plugs are a must here.
Great location near the train station. The private room was very nice. There is a short checkin window but they make sure you have all the information to enter through the back door. There is a cafe attached which is only open set hours but has good food.

United KingdomGirls showers are only split by screens and curtains, and is quite cramped. If you are uncomfortable being naked around others, you may feel awkward having to pass by the other showers. As a note, the boys shower rooms are standard Japanese private shower rooms. No free towels.
Location is great; it's right in the centre of where everything is happening. It's about a 5 minute walk to the train station and close to places like Yataimura. It's also a cool café during the day, and you're given a drink token for each day you stay there (although you can only use them when the café is open, which is 11-8). Dorms have privacy curtains and there's a small communal area. The staff gave an explanation of the hostel when checking in. Girls have the option for a Japanese style tatami room, which was very spacious. Boys dorm was a typical hostel dorm with bunk beds but a good storage area.

United Kingdomthe shared common areas are only 2 small kitchens. It's not very convivial once the cafe closes at 8pm.
I chose the traditional tatami room and it was spacious and comfortable, this was a nice surprise. The staff was very warm and helpful.

LatviaThat rooms have to be left from 11:00-16:00 for cleaning. Toilet was extremely small with barely enough soace to wash hands after. I don't think there were enough slippers for everyone.
