Location and great value for money.

Our favourite hotel we stayed in Japan - the Gion district is the coolest and we ended up extending our stay to have more time there.

There is no onsite restaurant.

Very cozy garden room with external light and view of a small Japanese garden. Japanese breakfast was included every morning and side dishes varied daily. Convenient location to subway, Gion attractions and lots of restaurants.

Location was perfect especially to train station and main sightseeing in Gion district. Great restaurants nearby, laundromat, and convenience stores. The bed was comfortable and our room was spacious and clean. The hotel hosted a meet and greet with a Maiko, apprentice geisha, that was very special and unique.

A tad difficult to find if arriving on foot. Have a photo handy of the front entry or ask a friendly neighbor or call reception when nearby. This doesn’t detract from my overall rating.

Small modern boutique hotel among older buildings in the atmospheric Gion. Close to train, shops and great walks. Staff were wonderful and breakfast was a tasty Japanese style bento. Our room was good size with the best shower and a happening toilet!

Our only not so good comment was the complementary coffee available in the lobby was always over percolated and tasted burnt. No big deal really as there are a few nice coffee shops in the area.

This beautiful, boutique hotel situated in the Gion precinct ticks all the boxes. Modern, well appointed rooms that offer a traditional Japanese feel. The staff are very friendly and helpful. There is a metro station and 7-Eleven store close by. Our only not so good comment was the complementary coffee available in the lobby was always over percolated and tasted burnt. No big deal really as there are a few nice coffee shops in the area. If you are travelling to Kyoto this hotel is highly recommended. Gion in our view is a fabulous area that takes you back to earlier times in fascinating Kyoto.

Only negative was the inadequate storage space.

Everything. Perfect location in the middle of Gion district. Very short walking distance to station, restaurants, shopping. Rooms were lovely and a great size along with a large shower/bath area. Gion Misen is located in a quiet, traditional street. Staff were exceptional and very friendly and knowledgeable about the area. Supplied ammenities were great.

You need to tell them a day in advance exactly when you want to have breakfast (how would I know, I'm on vacation ;), and breakfast is super-Japanese. We had it only once, and ate outside every morning. Staff didn't seem to care :( Plus, the reception space is always messy, which is a bit weird in a Japanese hotel.

The location is perfect, the room is large and beautiful, and really conveys the Japanese classic atmosphere. The bath was great too!

The breakfast wasn’t great. They don’t have the facilities for cooking so it’s pretty limited. We had the Western option at the sister hotel and it was the poorest we had on the two week trip. Disappointing considering it was a really nice hotel and the most expensive place we stayed.

Lovely hotel in a great location in Gion. Room was a good size and very comfortable. We had some rainy days and it was a room you could relax in when the rain got too much. Very friendly staff, always said hello when we came and went.

The Japanese breakfast was delicious and we enjoyed meeting some fellow travelers. The staff was terrific at answering questions, helping with dining reservations, etc.

Not sound proof so you can hear people banging door.

Location is good. Staff are friendly. Special arrangement made by hotel for guests to meet a Maiko in person. Pay a fee and pay own drinks. Love the special event.

Not being able to see outside

Great location, walking distance to all sights east of Kyoto and the shopping/dining/bar areas. Staff were friendly and helpful, the room was very clean with a great shower and very comfortable mattress. I would highly recommend it to my friends.

A gem of a hotel in Gion. Perfect location in Kyoto where you don't feel the crowds but walking distance from everything. Modern hotel with great rooms and amenities stocked in the bathrooms. Very helpful and friendly staff. Highly recommended.

We loved the quietness and comfort of the hotel. In the busy area of Gion it was our oasis. Although the room was small it was extremely comfortable. There was a coffee grinder in the rooms so morning coffee was a big plus.

Everything was great. Clean, comfortable, friendly staff and we enjoyed an evening with a Maiko - organised by the hotel. They were also happy to keep our bags for a few hours, once we checked Jed out - SUGOI
