Each review score is between 1-10. To get the overall score that you see, we add up all the review scores we’ve received and divide that total by the number of review scores we’ve received. We are currently testing a weighted review system in Malta and Iceland (excluding hotel and vacation rental chains). For properties in these countries, the more recent the review, the bigger the impact on the total review score calculation. In addition, guests can give separate ‘subscores’ in crucial areas, such as location, cleanliness, staff, comfort, facilities, value for money and free Wi-Fi. Note that guests submit their subscores and their overall scores independently, so there’s no direct link between them.
You can review an Accommodation that you booked through our Platform if you stayed there or if you arrived at the property but didn’t actually stay there. To edit a review you’ve already submitted, please contact our Customer Service team.
We have people and automated systems that specialise in detecting fake reviews submitted to our Platform. If we find any, we delete them and, if necessary, take action against whoever is responsible.
Anyone else who spots something suspicious can always report it to our Customer Service team, so our Fraud team can investigate.
Ideally, we would publish every review we receive, whether positive or negative. However, we won’t display any review that includes or refers to (among other things):
To make sure reviews are relevant, we may only accept reviews that are submitted within 3 months of checking out, and we may stop showing reviews once they’re 36 months old – or if the Accommodation has a change of ownership.
An Accommodation may choose to reply to a review.
When you see multiple reviews, the most recent ones will be at the top, subject to a few other factors (what language a review is in, whether it’s just a rating or contains comments as well, etc.). If you like, you can sort and/or filter them (by time of year, review score, etc.).
We sometimes show external review scores from other well-known travel websites. We make it clear when we’ve done this.
These guidelines and standards aim to keep the content on Booking.com relevant and family-friendly without limiting expression of strong opinions. They are also applicable regardless of the sentiment of the comment.
Contributions should be travel related. The most helpful contributions are detailed and help others make better decisions. Please don’t include personal, political, ethical, or religious commentary. Promotional content will be removed and issues concerning Booking.com’s services should be routed to our Customer Service or Accommodation Service teams.
Contributions should be appropriate for a global audience. Please avoid using profanity or attempts to approximate profanity with creative spelling, in any language. Comments and media that include 'hate speech', discriminatory remarks, threats, sexually explicit remarks, violence, and the promotion of illegal activity are not permitted.
All content should be genuine and unique to the guest. Reviews are most valuable when they are original and unbiased. Your contribution should be yours. Booking.com property partners should not post on behalf of guests or offer incentives in exchange for reviews. Attempts to bring down the rating of a competitor by submitting a negative review will not be tolerated.
Respect the privacy of others. Booking.com will make an effort to obscure email addresses, telephone numbers, website addresses, social media accounts, and similar details.
The opinions expressed in contributions are those of Booking.com customers and properties and not of Booking.com. Booking.com does not accept responsibility or liability for any reviews or responses. Booking.com is a distributor (without any obligation to verify) and not a publisher of these comments and responses.
By default, reviews are sorted based on the date of the review and on additional criteria to display the most relevant reviews, including but not limited to: your language, reviews with text, and non-anonymous reviews. Additional sorting options may be available (by type of traveller, by score, etc.).

JapanYou have to remove your shoes before entering the facility, so you need to walk in slippers provided at the entrance. Check-out time and public spa opening time is the same, so at 10:00am we had to wait long time for spa customers to finish entrance before we could check-out the hotel.
Located on the top on a hill. Parking is available around the facility. The spa is very nice, especially morning time (am 8:30-9:30) when customers are few or none.

United KingdomA fire alarm sounded at 4am one night which led to us evacuating out from the 9th floor.this wasn't the hotel's fault, but the fire escape was unsafe. The outside floors connected by the steps were very slippery in the rain, which caused a number of guests to slip. Thankfully no serious injuries. Although the staff were very apologetic. Also the mattresses were a bit hard.
The Route Inn was lovely to stay in for the two nights we were in Aoshima. The breakfast was delicious and varied a lot each day. Staff were welcoming and eager to help and the Onsen was a treat to visit. Also we were very impressed with the manga room! It had quite an extensive collection

JapanSome of the bread rolls were not fresh! I think they may have used the previous day's leftovers. This was so disappointing as usually the delicious bread and croissants are the breakfast highlight for me, and this is the first time they have been less than excellent.
Route Inn is my favourite chain hotel because they always have an excellent buffet breakfast and a big shared bath. This one is a 'Grandia', which has an onsen and outdoor bath in place of the usual 'sento' bath, as well as a 'ganbanyoku' hot rock room, reading room with lots of manga and aesthetic salon for massage etc. Great views of the sea (and full moon rising above it when we were there) from the restaurant and the breakfast dining room. Located on a hill a little back from the main beach road, within walking distance of the surf beach.

JapanOn this occasion, I had a check-in experience at the hotel that was far from ideal. Upon arrival, I was asked by a man at the counter for my ID and proof of triple vaccination, something that took me by surprise as I don't usually travel with my vaccination records. When I queried why he needed this information, he simply walked away, returning with a document that claimed to necessitate my vaccination record. It was only later clarified that the records were needed if I wished to benefit from some promotional coupons. However, this was initially presented in a way that made me apprehensively believe my hotel stay was contingent on producing these records. After assuring them that I could provide photographic proof of vaccination at a later stage, I was offered a rather curt explanation about the property. The same staff member handed over my room keys with minimal interaction, lacking the expected inquiry into whether I understood the hotel's amenities or any expression of gratitude for choosing their hotel. This level of customer service was quite disappointing, especially considering the high standards usually found in Japan. I would advise any future guests to seek assistance from other staff members if possible, rather than this particular individual (X本). Despite this initial experience, it's crucial to note that the remaining staff members were a stark contrast, offering friendly and accommodating service throughout the rest of my stay. (By the way, I am fluent in Japanese and use it every day at work so it was not a language barrier issue.)
I recently had the pleasure of returning to this remarkable hotel, marking my second stay at this establishment. This time, I was on a "workation" in Aoshima for a week, and the experience was simply sublime. The daily routine at this hotel is a rejuvenating ritual. Mornings begin with a soothing sauna session, followed by an invigorating cold plunge, and culminating with a relaxing dip in the onsen. This routine, coupled with the serene ambiance of the hotel, had an astonishing effect on my mental clarity and motivation. I can confidently say that I've never felt more refreshed and driven than during my week here. The hotel's location is a definite highlight. A brief 10-minute stroll leads you to the main beach area, where you can indulge in some of the finest açaí bowls in Japan (surf cafe ulu). Alternatively, you can grab an iced americano and unwind by the beach. The vicinity also boasts several cafes with reliable Wi-Fi, perfect for those needing to work remotely. Since my previous stay, the hotel has implemented notable improvements to the property. A noteworthy upgrade is the expansion of the laundry room, which was always readily available and convenient during my stay. In conclusion, this hotel provides an exceptional experience, with its unique access to wellness fscilities, desirable location, and recent improvements contributing to its appeal. Additionally, most the staff (see below) is always welcoming, helpful, and contributes significantly to the overall positive experience. I highly recommend this hotel for anyone seeking a serene "workation" spot or simply a rejuvenating vacation.

JapanBreakfast was a bit disappointing, but it was free so you can’t really complain much.
Pretty much everything was great and convenient. The staff were extremely friendly and helpful too. Amazing onsen experience that accommodated me despite my tattoos which is rare here in Japan.

JapanI messaged the property about the best way to get there from the airport and never got a reply. I messaged well on advance as well.
Easy walk to the beach and the room had a really nice view. They also had an umbrella for me to use when it was raining.

United StatesI really liked everything about this hotel! I was pleasantly surprised at how awesome it was for the price! It'll be more fun if you had a car. Public transportation in the area isn't as frequent as other parts of Japan. And it's a completely shoes off hotel. It was so clean too!

BelgiumNothing, I loved this hotel so much.
I LOVE this hotel. It was my first hotel in Japan so it was a great introduction to Japan. The staff are very friendly and helpful, there is an onsen inside the hotel which I LOVED. Do keep in mind that they do not allow individuals with tattoos inside the onsen. The breakfast is Japanese style traditional breakfast where you sit on the floor (you can also sit on a chair if you want to as they are availabe) and the food is wonderful. The room is a little small but I think that is expected seeing as it is Japan but it was great value for money!
