First of all you need to know that payment for accommodation only by cash is acceptable. I didn't find such information during booking so I was surprised. It wasn't easy to find the guest house, Google don't recognize address. We finally found it after a short wander around.

It is OK for short time staying. Washing machine available. Is possible to prepare meal by yourself.

Pretty bare bones in terms of amenities but to be understandable for the price. Not the best maintained but it does the job.

Great location and affordable. Could walk to most major sites and there was a tram stop right outside. Owner was really friendly and helpful

The room is clean and wide enough for 4 people with suitcase. The staff is kind enough to help me bring over my suitcase to the 2nd floor.

Make sure you have cash on you as they do not accept card payments!!!! There is an odd smell of damp within the hostel and my dorm it smelt of feet (no body else in the dorm when I arrived, hostel nearly empty) Damp dirty towel left in kitchen creating a smell Rubbish bag open but no signage saying what type of rubbish to put there (there is on another bin but signage is only in Japanese) Not very secure as stayed 3 night and most times in and out of the hostel there was nobody on the front desk and the door to the hostel is unlocked so anybody can walk in and out, and dorm rooms are not individually locked They have a washing machine but no tumble dryer or facilities to dry outside - laundry had to dry in the dorm No individual bunk lighting

Vicinity to train and tram very convenient

The first room we were assigned to smelled very strongly of mould. We requested to move to a new room which they approved (this room was fine). There was black mould in some of the showers, on the walls and on the soap bottles.

Staff are very nice. It is easy to walk to nearby attractions or get a tram. Very quiet area and konbini only a 5 minute walk.

    Nothing.

Sukumoto San was a very friendly and informative owner and manager. Very good host. Will surely stay here again the next time. Thank you Sukumoto San for making my stay in Hakodate memorable. Cheers to your sake. The check-in time at 3pm is very good and the door is left open 24 hours. So no need to worry about coming back late. Bath towel is provided FOC which is a plus.

Good to stay if you just need a rather functional place to sleep
    • Leisure trip

Compared to other hostels, communication, written indications and check-in flexibilty seemed a bit complicated. The room's inner window blind could be slid through the wall. Thus there was a constant narrow opening to the corridor which would leave noise in and did not allow for complete privacy in the room. The aircondition was just half a meter above the upper bunk bed level. So the person sleeping up there either had to endure a cold draft at night - or both persons had to agree on sleeping in the summer heat (July) that accumulates in the inside of a building. (Opening the window for cooler night air was out of question because it faced the main road.) There was no elevator.

Appropriate for sleeping, having a shower and eating/preparing bought-in breakfast. Rather a functional than a beautiful place. For those who enjoy places that have grown historically with their interior and constant adaptations rather than stylish new hostels with a wholistic design concept.

The room was small and smelled a bit of cigarettes, although we booked a non-smoking room. There were windows, but they couldn’t be opened. We were told to wipe the casters of the suitcases and even take off our shoes and leave them at the entrance but there were no guest shoes and we had to walk on the smelly and not so clean looking carpet the whole time. Everything was pretty run-down and could use a better cleaning. But the worst part was the bed and pillows, which were very hard and uncomfortable. It was a sleepless night.

The location was good, about 20 minutes with the tram from the train station but on walking distance from the ropeway station and bay. The man on the reception was friendly, gave us each a bottle of water when we arrived and helped us carry our luggage to the room, since there was no elevator.

there's a bad smell as soon as you enter the place. kitchen, shared shower, toilets, shared bathrooms are dirty. shared shower is in very bad condition bunk beds are noisy and not comfortable. only one person when we arrived, so it was not cleaned before we arrived, and probably not after. avoid this place if you have the choice. i don't know how it could have an evaluation of 8+ on booking, that's very disappointing
