How guest reviews work
Each review score is between 1-10. To get the overall score that you see, we add up all the review scores we’ve received and divide that total by the number of review scores we’ve received. We are currently testing a weighted review system in Malta and Iceland (excluding hotel and vacation rental chains). For properties in these countries, the more recent the review, the bigger the impact on the total review score calculation. In addition, guests can give separate ‘subscores’ in crucial areas, such as location, cleanliness, staff, comfort, facilities, value for money and free Wi-Fi. Note that guests submit their subscores and their overall scores independently, so there’s no direct link between them.
You can review an Accommodation that you booked through our Platform if you stayed there or if you arrived at the property but didn’t actually stay there. To edit a review you’ve already submitted, please contact our Customer Service team.
We have people and automated systems that specialise in detecting fake reviews submitted to our Platform. If we find any, we delete them and, if necessary, take action against whoever is responsible.
Anyone else who spots something suspicious can always report it to our Customer Service team, so our Fraud team can investigate.
Ideally, we would publish every review we receive, whether positive or negative. However, we won’t display any review that includes or refers to (among other things):
- Politically sensitive comments
- Promotional content
- Illegal activities
- Personal or sensitive information (e.g. emails, phone numbers or credit card info)
- Swear words, sexual references, hate speech, discriminatory remarks, threats, or references to violence
- Spam and fake content
- Animal cruelty
- Impersonation (e.g. if the writer is claiming to be someone else)
- Any violation of our review guidelines.
To make sure reviews are relevant, we may only accept reviews that are submitted within 3 months of checking out, and we may stop showing reviews once they’re 36 months old – or if the Accommodation has a change of ownership.
An Accommodation may choose to reply to a review.
When you see multiple reviews, the most recent ones will be at the top, subject to a few other factors (what language a review is in, whether it’s just a rating or contains comments as well, etc.). If you like, you can sort and/or filter them (by time of year, review score, etc.).
We sometimes show external review scores from other well-known travel websites. We make it clear when we’ve done this.

everything is really perfect!
It is my first time to write review for a hotel. The host in the guest house is one of the best host I have ever seen, excellent care and really clean, traditional Japanese house. And I will always remember the host welcome us and said to us “Feel at home”. Highly recommend travelers to visit and stay there.

The shower was downstairs and didn't look to be in the best condition.
It was clean and it had a full kitchen. The owner was very nice and the parking was excellent.

Quiet, got to hear the birds singing in the morning. Close walk to the beach which was nice to swim at. The manager was very helpful and nice!

We were lullabied into sleep by cicadas and driven to beaches by Tomo. This house and the care of the people is unbelievable. Even Iwanaga-hime - Mt Eboshi had a day of merci, and no cloweds hindered her view to Fuji and her sister Konohana-sakuya-hime. Thanks for all drives and food restaurant assitance.

This is an amazing guest house! The host is super nice and helpful. He gave us great recommendations for the area and did everything to make sure we have great time. The rooms are clean and cozy and the kitchen really has everything you need! You can rent e-bikes and normal bikes, as well as snorkeling sets, which is great to explore the area. There is really a lot to do and see. Recommend 110%!!

Itokawa Guesthouse, located just a short 10-minute walk from the center of Matsusaki, stands adjacent to the museum. Situated in a serene neighborhood, this clean and tranquil haven offers convenience with a nearby convenience store and supermarket just two blocks away. The hospitable host manager is always ready to assist with answers to your queries and local insights. All in all, Itokawa Guesthouse proves to be a delightful place to stay, and I'm definitely open to revisiting in the future.

Absolutely nothing should be changed!
I stayed here in 2019 for the first time and I was so impressed by the location and kindness of the host that I went back in 2023. This place is just so special and I highly recommend it to all the travelers visiting Izu Peninsula.

The bathroom/shower facilities are basic, but functional
The host was excellent and it had all the facilities of living in your own house. Great location and a quiet comfortable room. The ability to meet and interact with other guests. Good value for money.

It is a good small place with pleasant stuff, with everything needed for the traveler, just near to the bus stop. The location is grate. They also have lovely foot hot spring near and explained all about near attraction very usefully.

Great welcoming, very kind staff. Everything clean an tidy. We rented bikes at the last moment there. Absolutely great (electric) bikes, for only 1000 yen for the whole day.

If it had embedded hot spring, it would be perfect. However, you can use hot spring in neighborhood with extra cost.
Friendly staff was kind and caring. The location is nearly center of Matsuzaki, so you will be accessible to anywhere in the city. The traditional Japanese building, probably renovated, is providing relaxing vibe. Free use of kitchen and laundry.

Great location right within Matsuzaki town. Within walking distance of the convenience store, beach and restaurants. Our host was very nice, and the property is equipped with a bicycle shed, which makes it perfect for bike travellers.

Everything you need for a weekend in Izu. Nothing more, nothing less. Good price, good location. We loved the kitchen, it was cosy and practical. The owner was very nice. I would like to stay here again.
