This was an incredible experience staying with some lovely locals Nina and Masaki. The nightly activities were a real highlight and something I will not forget for a long time. The facilities were clean and comfortable. It's a really cute space. Don't leave Ponghi without asking Nina about her favourite J-Pop songs ;)

It is by far the best hostel I have ever been in. Nina-san & Manki-san were amazing; they make everything so you will feel welcome. Every day around 8:00 PM, we had a great activity. One day we made miso homemade and origami, and another day we made takoyaki. The rooms are small but comfortable; everything is clean. It was one of my best experiences on this trip. Thank you

This was the best accomodation I had for my whole Japan trip. Masaki-san and Nina-san are the kindest and most generous people. We made takoyaki, mochi and origami together. I was sad to leave! I’d come to Kanazawa just to stay here

The staff, they were so nice and helpful, they really made Guest House Pongyi feel like a home away from home! Can't thank them enough for their generosity and welcoming attitude! Besides the dorm and bed were good, the common areas wer spacious and welcoming. For a little extra fee there was a great breakfast with coffee.

nina and masaki (they have an excellent level of English) really go out of their way to make sure you have a good stay, and always have a smile on their faces. I'll have fond memories of the evening activities and discussions I had with them. I really thank you from the bottom of my heart. If I ever come back to Kanazawa, I promise I'll come back again!

Easily the best I have stayed at my entire time here. The small cozy and amazing vibe and hospitality are unmatched, really more of an air bnb than a hostel feel really. The nightly activities are so unique and they do everything in their power to make you feel as welcome and as included as possible. Even gave me a couple keepsakes for the road. Thank you so much. Would love to return someday.

I had the best stay of my travels so far in Pongyi. Masaki-san and Nina-san are the best hosts that you could ever dream of, they went above and beyond to ensure all guests had a wonderful stay. I loved the evening activities such as calligraphy and origami that you could participate in with other guests and learnt so much about Japanese culture. The guest house was super clean and comfortable. Very cosy beds and plenty of room even with my notorious overpacked suitcase. Wouldn't hesitate to stay here again and I would really hope to do so.

There was nothing on the negative side!

A very beautiful traditional small house. It has two nice common rooms. One is a bit more couy and the other one more for group activities, which the hosts made plenty of. Every evening there is a nice event involving food. For a small fee everybody gets plenty of nice home made food. The hosts were great and also all the other quests were great. It seems to attrackt a special (good) kind of people! The communication was great and english was no problem. Also it is possible tl drop your luggage if you arrive before 12:00.

Not soundproof from others’ alarms, but it’s more a downside of living in shared accommodations. Otherwise everything was perfect during my stay!

Everything was perfect! And it’s in an excellent location walkable to most if not all attractions! Nina is very kind and caring, and she goes above and beyond to make my stay comfortable and memorable. Masaki is very warm and welcoming, and I enjoyed the evening events he lead from karuta to taiyaki parties. The futon beds are so comfy! Each bed is also beautifully decorated. Breakfast is delicious! Make sure you order the night before, do not miss it.

Masaki-san and Nina-san's hospitality and warm welcome made my stay in Kanazawa amazing! Pongyi is a lovely and unique place - I felt like I was visiting friends and spending time with them. It was an interesting experience - we learned how to make origami, had Nabe hotpot dinner together, learned the matcha ceremony, and Japanese culture from Masaki-san and Nina-san. I highly recommend Pongyi if you visit Kanazawa. :)

Just an FYI. If you are larger or have limited mobility. I would recommend booking the mixed dorm as it has fewer stairs. It's a lovely house though.

Nina and Masaki were so warm, friendly and generous and the guesthouse was cosy and spotless. Sharing a trip to the local supermarket and a mochi party together with Nina, Masaki and other quests was a wonderful experience.

Low noise and cold isolation, but it was not a surprise since it is common in old japanese houses ( there is AC, though so the temperature is fine ). The real only downside is that it is not easy to get a night at this place. You have to book really early!

The environment is charming and beautiful, and the staff was awesome. They do speak english. The breakfast was great. I would totally come back!

Nina San (the owner) is wonderfully kind. She helped me when I had problem contacting the place of my next stay. Thank you so much Nina. Location is perfect. It is close to St, only 7 min walk. They have many gathering event for guests to get to know each other, , too bad I could not attend all. Location wise, owner hospitality and clean facility.. it is a perfect stay.. Be mindful though that it is a small guest house so space is limited.

The house was a traditional gorgeous house in a great location by the canal. The hosts were so welcoming and kind. Everything was very clean and the wifi worked really well. I would not hesitate to stay here again!

Lovely traditional house and kind helpful owners who went above and beyond to make sure I enjoyed my stay. Great place to spend an evening folding origami and drinking tea. I hope to come back someday:)
