Each review score is between 1-10. To get the overall score that you see, we add up all the review scores we’ve received and divide that total by the number of review scores we’ve received. We are currently testing a weighted review system in Malta and Iceland (excluding hotel and vacation rental chains). For properties in these countries, the more recent the review, the bigger the impact on the total review score calculation. In addition, guests can give separate ‘subscores’ in crucial areas, such as location, cleanliness, staff, comfort, facilities, value for money and free Wi-Fi. Note that guests submit their subscores and their overall scores independently, so there’s no direct link between them.
You can review an Accommodation that you booked through our Platform if you stayed there or if you arrived at the property but didn’t actually stay there. To edit a review you’ve already submitted, please contact our Customer Service team.
We have people and automated systems that specialise in detecting fake reviews submitted to our Platform. If we find any, we delete them and, if necessary, take action against whoever is responsible.
Anyone else who spots something suspicious can always report it to our Customer Service team, so our Fraud team can investigate.
Ideally, we would publish every review we receive, whether positive or negative. However, we won’t display any review that includes or refers to (among other things):
To make sure reviews are relevant, we may only accept reviews that are submitted within 3 months of checking out, and we may stop showing reviews once they’re 36 months old – or if the Accommodation has a change of ownership.
An Accommodation may choose to reply to a review.
When you see multiple reviews, the most recent ones will be at the top, subject to a few other factors (what language a review is in, whether it’s just a rating or contains comments as well, etc.). If you like, you can sort and/or filter them (by time of year, review score, etc.).
We sometimes show external review scores from other well-known travel websites. We make it clear when we’ve done this.
These guidelines and standards aim to keep the content on Booking.com relevant and family-friendly without limiting expression of strong opinions. They are also applicable regardless of the sentiment of the comment.
Contributions should be travel related. The most helpful contributions are detailed and help others make better decisions. Please don’t include personal, political, ethical, or religious commentary. Promotional content will be removed and issues concerning Booking.com’s services should be routed to our Customer Service or Accommodation Service teams.
Contributions should be appropriate for a global audience. Please avoid using profanity or attempts to approximate profanity with creative spelling, in any language. Comments and media that include 'hate speech', discriminatory remarks, threats, sexually explicit remarks, violence, and the promotion of illegal activity are not permitted.
All content should be genuine and unique to the guest. Reviews are most valuable when they are original and unbiased. Your contribution should be yours. Booking.com property partners should not post on behalf of guests or offer incentives in exchange for reviews. Attempts to bring down the rating of a competitor by submitting a negative review will not be tolerated.
Respect the privacy of others. Booking.com will make an effort to obscure email addresses, telephone numbers, website addresses, social media accounts, and similar details.
The opinions expressed in contributions are those of Booking.com customers and properties and not of Booking.com. Booking.com does not accept responsibility or liability for any reviews or responses. Booking.com is a distributor (without any obligation to verify) and not a publisher of these comments and responses.
By default, reviews are sorted based on the date of the review and on additional criteria to display the most relevant reviews, including but not limited to: your language, reviews with text, and non-anonymous reviews. Additional sorting options may be available (by type of traveller, by score, etc.).

United KingdomNothing!
We were looking for a good location to hopefully see mount Fuji and this is perfect! Can't ever guarantee the view but we lucked out. In any case it is a beautiful place on the lake and less busy than other areas.

New Zealand3-5minute walk to the bus stop (we caught the bus from Mt Fuji station). The rooms were sparkling clean, tatami mats were comfier than our previous hotel beds, the kitchen was great for cooking a home cooked meal with full utensils available. The free bikes were a highlights for us! We used them for a full day and got to visit local food spots (Yamanaka Terrace was our favourite cafe), bike up a hill to a short 20minute view spot of Mt Fuji, and around Lake Yamanaka. The owner was super hospitable and helpful. We hope to come back and visit again one day 😊 thank you!

CanadaThe futons were a little too hard and the bathroom was cold and Inconvenient to use (shower head was hanging far away from the tub)
Very well located and traditional Japanese-style house. You could very well see Fuji from the room.

The beds were heated when we arrived and the room was warm. The view was amazing and it was very easy to locate the property. The host was amazing and friendly we chatted for a while! So many amenities such as bike and stand up paddle board. Close to many food places and 7/11. Swans were friendly and greeted us near the lake.

BelgiumThe most beautiful Japanese room I've stayed in, on a stunning location and so cheap! Too bad Fuji wasn't showing, but it did not detract from the whole experience. The host was so friendly and helpfull, thank you for your tips!

CanadaOn location: Other than the convenience store 5 minutes away, there are not many food options nearby especially for dinner. It's best to ask about reservations by calling restaurants or izakayas in advance. There's also not much to do around Yamanakako within a walkable distance. Yamanakako in general is a little inaccessible without a car, so staying in the area may not be the greatest if you're solo travelling and not driving. It is around a 6 minutes walk to the bus stop, but the buses come only every couple of hours and can be late.
The heaters for the futon! It made the bed even more comfortable. They really make a difference for a good night's sleep in winter. Even though there's a likely chance Mt Fuji may not be seen due to weather conditions, it's right by the lake, so it's very close to nature. You can see ducks and swans all around you. Very calming and relaxing atmosphere. Good for escaping from the city.

SingaporeThe Mt Fuji view is the best. I came back to stay in winter because I couldn't match the dates in summer last year. Host Daizen was friendly and responsive but not around when we stayed. He provided amenities to make the winter less cold. Very value for money.

PhilippinesThere's only 1 bathroom to share with 2 other groups so evening baths can be quite tricky if you all come home at the same time and other guests take a long time in there.
I'm so glad we snagged a room months before our trip! Directly in front of the guesthouse is Mt. Fuji. The location is so peaceful, the complete opposite of the busy cities we've visited like Tokyo. The guesthouse felt like home, especially as the kitchen was so equipped and with so many tokens from previous guests. We appreciated the stack of tourist guides on the dining room table as it felt like we had our own tourist info center there! The owner, Daizen, was kind enough to help us dry our items in the living room post-accident. He was responsive to inquiries. The room was warm and comfy, and had a small machine we can use to warm up our beds.

AustraliaThe futon was somewhat thin, leading to a bit of discomfort after sleeping on it, which is expected for those unaccustomed to it. Dining options were limited on this side of the lake, resulting in us having dinner from 7/11 on both nights.
The setting of the place was remarkable, situated right across from Mt Fuji. Fortunately, during my two-day stay, the weather was clear, allowing for unobstructed views of the mountain. The room, ideally sized for a couple, featured a wardrobe for storing our luggage. The pillows were exceptionally comfortable, and the room maintained a cozy warmth, thanks to the air conditioners and bed warmers.

AustraliaThe other guests had small children that where extremely loud late at night, not the owners fault at all, the walls are just very thin. We also where a bit confused on how to access the property but ended up just entering and seeing our name on our room door, so just keep in mind there might not be anyone to greet you. All in all, it was an amazing spot!
Phenomenal location with a perfect view of Mt Fuji. Such a beautiful property with all the facilities you could need. Very clean and comfortable - had the best sleep of my entire Japan trip on the heated futon, they're so unbelievably comfy. Heaps of cute cafes in the area and places to explore! We will absolutely be back.
