The staff were very kind and helpful, the space was beautiful and in walking distance of everything, and the beds were extremely comfortable. I hope I can stay here again in the future

A paradise-like place with outstanding hospitality provided by the owners. The guesthouse exceeded my expectations when I opened my room’s door and saw an emerald Pacific Ocean bay through the window (where I eventually practiced Standup Paddle Board - SUP - available for renting). The 2-bed room has a good size, comfortable beds, and a compact - yet appropriate - bathroom. I also highlight the general cleanliness of the entire place, the well-equipped kitchen, the good vibe of the shared space, and the convenience of the bicycles available to guests. “All you need” is a place to lay back, practice sports, and get in touch with the coastal side of Japan. I hope to get back someday.

Very friendly and very helpful host. Nice family. It is a great place with fantastic view, very clean and well kept. Our host gave us bicycles and a lot of recommendations to explore the surroundings and beaches and restaurants with great food. We had a very good time there and met nice people from all over the world.

Diffucult to reach when you have heavy luggages and don’t have a car. Owner is very kind and drive us to the station on a rainy day.

The guesthouse is very well organised with many information provided. The owner is very responsive and gave us many tips during our stay. The room was better than expected. Very clean, comfortable and with a beautiful sea view. We really enjoyed the free bike rental and all the other services available.

The dorms were a bit small and thus stuffy in the night.

The staff was very helpful and supported us phoning with the local ferry as our japanese is not that great. Also the place seems very kid friendly which is rarely seen. We felt very welcome. The owner even offered us an emergency stay as our ferry was cancelled! Would recommend this guesthouse and we will definitively come back.

There was really all I needed 😆 but more importantly, the owners were super helpful and friendly, they helped me a lot. The area is beautiful with nice people, and I learned to surf in one of the beaches. I came in April, so there weren't a lot of visitors but I definitely recommend it.

We would have liked a kettle in our room to make our own hot drinks rather than go down to the communal area - lots of stairs! (We’re in our 70s 😂). We had been warned about the stairs & how the view compensated for that, which was very true 👍 So a minor niggle really 😊

Highly recommend this place. Really clean and location is great. The Guesthouse had everything you would need. We stayed with a one year old baby and it was great. Kitchen was clean and easy to use and they had a baby seat to attach to the chairs which was great. There are restaurants and cafes walking distance as well and also a sandy beach. We will be coming back for sure.

Lovely owners! They even drove us back to the train station. The common area has good vibe and great views - same for the room. You can borrow a bicycle for free. The food recommendations and were great! We highly recommend Doug's bakery. The 3.5km to get there are worth it :)

Only thing was that the guesthouse is located at the top of a very steep driveway so pulling luggage up is a bit difficult, but not too bad.

Everything was fantastic, the owners were the kindest people and even gave us a lift to the train station when we were leaving. Excellent amenities, it was wonderful that they had free bike rentals

This is the best place you can find in Shimoda. Beautiful spot, comfy beds, great common area to socialise with others especially if you're a solo traveler. Free bike rental, a great host that will help you get accustomed to the area and give you suggestions. I planned staying for 3 days but ended up extending a couple more days because I really felt comfortable there. Highly recommended.

Lighting in room could be improved. It was very nice to have a common kitchen and dining space to use, but some of the other guests were not very careful to clean up after themselves.

Owner was super friendly, attentive to our needs and offered lots of advice about nearby restaurants and beaches. Location is both close to the ocean and also to the town, so very convenient. Clean and well maintained. The view from our room was magnificent.

Warm welcome by the staff with very good recommendation of what to do the next day. We were able to see very nice kawazu Sakura thanks to this! The bed was comfortable, and there is a nice view on the sea.

I would describe this as a very steep lodging. Most of the rooms are on the 3rd and 4th floor and the stairs are a bit steep but there are railings for assistance. The walk up to the entryway is very steep as well but there's really nothing that can be done about that tbh.

All you need really sums this place up! I stayed in the twin room and the view was very nice. Nearby it's a short walk to a little cove with a small beach and on the other side of the hill there's a nice historical area. I didn't do much in the city itself because I was there mainly to visit nearby towns for the kawazu zakura. I got there a bit late for the flowers in Kawazu but when I told the owner that, he gave me a wonderful recommendation for blooming flowers in Minami Izu and even recommended me parking and an onsen to visit. He helped make my trip go from potential flop to a delightful weekend adventure. I'll definitely be back to visit Shimoda to explore the city and all it's beaches and sights! About the room, I liked it. It was just as pictured in the photos and actually, as it's a guesthouse I didn't think about the bathroom situation, shared or private, so I was very pleased to discover that I had a private bath/toilet room. The beds were not too hard, and the view was really nice. I do kind of wish the beds were lifted a bit so I could enjoy the view from the room as well but I suppose that's what the 2nd floor common spaces are for. It's got all the amenities needed, shampoo, conditioner, body wash, tissues, hairdryer, hangers, clock, and a very fast A/C. It was a bit chilly and it took barely any time to warm up the room. I'll definitely be back!
