Each review score is between 1-10. To get the overall score that you see, we add up all the review scores we’ve received and divide that total by the number of review scores we’ve received. We are currently testing a weighted review system in Malta and Iceland (excluding hotel and vacation rental chains). For properties in these countries, the more recent the review, the bigger the impact on the total review score calculation. In addition, guests can give separate ‘subscores’ in crucial areas, such as location, cleanliness, staff, comfort, facilities, value for money and free Wi-Fi. Note that guests submit their subscores and their overall scores independently, so there’s no direct link between them.
You can review an Accommodation that you booked through our Platform if you stayed there or if you arrived at the property but didn’t actually stay there. To edit a review you’ve already submitted, please contact our Customer Service team.
We have people and automated systems that specialise in detecting fake reviews submitted to our Platform. If we find any, we delete them and, if necessary, take action against whoever is responsible.
Anyone else who spots something suspicious can always report it to our Customer Service team, so our Fraud team can investigate.
Ideally, we would publish every review we receive, whether positive or negative. However, we won’t display any review that includes or refers to (among other things):
To make sure reviews are relevant, we may only accept reviews that are submitted within 3 months of checking out, and we may stop showing reviews once they’re 36 months old – or if the Accommodation has a change of ownership.
An Accommodation may choose to reply to a review.
When you see multiple reviews, the most recent ones will be at the top, subject to a few other factors (what language a review is in, whether it’s just a rating or contains comments as well, etc.). If you like, you can sort and/or filter them (by time of year, review score, etc.).
We sometimes show external review scores from other well-known travel websites. We make it clear when we’ve done this.
These guidelines and standards aim to keep the content on Booking.com relevant and family-friendly without limiting expression of strong opinions. They are also applicable regardless of the sentiment of the comment.
Contributions should be travel related. The most helpful contributions are detailed and help others make better decisions. Please don’t include personal, political, ethical, or religious commentary. Promotional content will be removed and issues concerning Booking.com’s services should be routed to our Customer Service or Accommodation Service teams.
Contributions should be appropriate for a global audience. Please avoid using profanity or attempts to approximate profanity with creative spelling, in any language. Comments and media that include 'hate speech', discriminatory remarks, threats, sexually explicit remarks, violence, and the promotion of illegal activity are not permitted.
All content should be genuine and unique to the guest. Reviews are most valuable when they are original and unbiased. Your contribution should be yours. Booking.com property partners should not post on behalf of guests or offer incentives in exchange for reviews. Attempts to bring down the rating of a competitor by submitting a negative review will not be tolerated.
Respect the privacy of others. Booking.com will make an effort to obscure email addresses, telephone numbers, website addresses, social media accounts, and similar details.
The opinions expressed in contributions are those of Booking.com customers and properties and not of Booking.com. Booking.com does not accept responsibility or liability for any reviews or responses. Booking.com is a distributor (without any obligation to verify) and not a publisher of these comments and responses.
By default, reviews are sorted based on the date of the review and on additional criteria to display the most relevant reviews, including but not limited to: your language, reviews with text, and non-anonymous reviews. Additional sorting options may be available (by type of traveller, by score, etc.).

United StatesUh, hm, yeah the 'capsule' was quite tall, but felt a little strange haha, somehow more like a box you're trapped in than capsule hotel. Kind of hard to deal with where to put my stuff, and how the door swung inward, but that probably isn't an issue with the bigger "rooms".
Nice vibe! cool outdoor staircase, beautiful in the rain. Nice cafe area, and front bar area. Location was super nice, very central. Staff was very kind as well.

United StatesIt is what you paid for so I'm not complaining, the room will be a bit low but not like you are doing anything other than sleeping anyway.
It's in the middle of the atami ginza area. Also, the staff was helpful. Gave great recommendations for restaurants and onsens.

The staff were extremely hospitable and helpful. They helped me book a private onsen and recommended places to eat! 10/10

AustraliaThe room is was a little small but definitely served for enough space for the price. Recommend booking a lower capsule to save yourself from climbing up constantly. Either way you'll have a great time with your stay.
Staff were amazing and attentive. Great to talk to and very helpful. The hotel diner/bar was delicious as well and it was a very, very clean place. The addition of the upstairs library was also a really nice touch offering books in Japanese and English. Highly recommend.

United StatesThe beds were a little uncomfortable, and the stairs to the top rooms were very steep. Like any capsule you're going to hear people getting up at night or early in the morning.
It was in a great location and the staff was very friendly. They offered good recommendations and overall had a very inviting atmosphere! There were multiple areas where you can relax outside of your room. They provided a full kitchen and offered free coffee and tea.

CanadaRoom a little claustrophobic.
Nice location, decent beds. I must say though, of all the places I stayed in Japan, the staff here, especially one woman who worked more in the Cafe, were the most friendly and helpful of all places I stayed. I very much appreciated that.

Hong KongThe shower space doesn‘t really have shelves/hangers to put your own stuff while having the shower.
As a capsule hostel, the room is actually quite spacious, the room is even high enough to allow a person to stand up. And I like the idea making the capsule to a tatami. The hostel is located in the center of Atami, right on the Ginza shopping street which was perfect.

United KingdomThe distance from the station (15 min walk) wouldn’t be so bad if it wasn’t all uphill, meaning it takes much longer. The rooms themselves only have a small fan and there is no central air-con, so it was very stuffy.
The staff are all really friendly and go out of their way to use translators in order to have an actual conversation with you. It is also centrally located on a street surrounded by multiple nice restaurants and bars.

I was unfortunately only 2 nights on site but had a wonderful stay. The common room is large and offers many opportunities to linger there. The kitchen is super equipped and above all, the staff incredibly nice, friendly and helpful. I had a lot of fun with them and a really great time. Thanks especially to Misusu for helping me learn Japanese. There is also a bar with delicious craft beer and tasty breakfast.

United StatesThe thin futon, so I woke up with body ache everyday. The sleeping pod had a ceiling about 4 ft or 4-1/2 ft, which made it affordable to have private space, which I loved, but my head still hurts from hitting it hard. It's no fault of the hostel. I just want to mention here to think about whether you can live in a room you can't stand up in. Next time I will make reservations with more advance notice and get one of the rooms they have in another building nearby. I loved this place in general.
The staff were amazing, helping with so many things, including helping me route a trip as affordably as possible to Mount Fuji, as well as calling me a taxi when it was time to go. Especially Meme and Sugi, among the staff. I wish I could remember everyone else's names. Great water pressure in the showers, the place was really clean and the location was excellent, on a street with all kinds of yummy food. The kitchen was really nice to cook in, as it opened directly on to Common space. Nice and quiet for sleeping. Nice big lockers, so I could leave most of my stuff there and not clutter my room.

IrelandIt was our first experience with futon beds and we found them a bit hard. We can't complain as we knew it was a futon bed but didn't fully understand what that entailed.
The rooms were individual capsules. Common area was well equipped and the staff were lovely. Very pleasant stay at the hostel.
