Each review score is between 1-10. To get the overall score that you see, we add up all the review scores we’ve received and divide that total by the number of review scores we’ve received. We are currently testing a weighted review system in Malta and Iceland (excluding hotel and vacation rental chains). For properties in these countries, the more recent the review, the bigger the impact on the total review score calculation. In addition, guests can give separate ‘subscores’ in crucial areas, such as location, cleanliness, staff, comfort, facilities, value for money and free Wi-Fi. Note that guests submit their subscores and their overall scores independently, so there’s no direct link between them.
You can review an Accommodation that you booked through our Platform if you stayed there or if you arrived at the property but didn’t actually stay there. To edit a review you’ve already submitted, please contact our Customer Service team.
We have people and automated systems that specialise in detecting fake reviews submitted to our Platform. If we find any, we delete them and, if necessary, take action against whoever is responsible.
Anyone else who spots something suspicious can always report it to our Customer Service team, so our Fraud team can investigate.
Ideally, we would publish every review we receive, whether positive or negative. However, we won’t display any review that includes or refers to (among other things):
To make sure reviews are relevant, we may only accept reviews that are submitted within 3 months of checking out, and we may stop showing reviews once they’re 36 months old – or if the Accommodation has a change of ownership.
An Accommodation may choose to reply to a review.
When you see multiple reviews, the most recent ones will be at the top, subject to a few other factors (what language a review is in, whether it’s just a rating or contains comments as well, etc.). If you like, you can sort and/or filter them (by time of year, review score, etc.).
We sometimes show external review scores from other well-known travel websites. We make it clear when we’ve done this.
These guidelines and standards aim to keep the content on Booking.com relevant and family-friendly without limiting expression of strong opinions. They are also applicable regardless of the sentiment of the comment.
Contributions should be travel related. The most helpful contributions are detailed and help others make better decisions. Please don’t include personal, political, ethical, or religious commentary. Promotional content will be removed and issues concerning Booking.com’s services should be routed to our Customer Service or Accommodation Service teams.
Contributions should be appropriate for a global audience. Please avoid using profanity or attempts to approximate profanity with creative spelling, in any language. Comments and media that include 'hate speech', discriminatory remarks, threats, sexually explicit remarks, violence, and the promotion of illegal activity are not permitted.
All content should be genuine and unique to the guest. Reviews are most valuable when they are original and unbiased. Your contribution should be yours. Booking.com property partners should not post on behalf of guests or offer incentives in exchange for reviews. Attempts to bring down the rating of a competitor by submitting a negative review will not be tolerated.
Respect the privacy of others. Booking.com will make an effort to obscure email addresses, telephone numbers, website addresses, social media accounts, and similar details.
The opinions expressed in contributions are those of Booking.com customers and properties and not of Booking.com. Booking.com does not accept responsibility or liability for any reviews or responses. Booking.com is a distributor (without any obligation to verify) and not a publisher of these comments and responses.
By default, reviews are sorted based on the date of the review and on additional criteria to display the most relevant reviews, including but not limited to: your language, reviews with text, and non-anonymous reviews. Additional sorting options may be available (by type of traveller, by score, etc.).

SwitzerlandNothing to complain about, excellent service.
Rooms, private bath, food, staff, all were excellent! Even though there was some language barrier, the staff tried their best with all. It all felt very much like a guesthouse run by a caring family. Very warm and professional at the same time.

SingaporeDark parking areas. Need more lightings. Some English instructions with the use of facilities will be helpful. Rigid mealtime.
Dinner & Breakfast are good. Attentive staff. The staff, Ridzuan who understood English, explained the food in details and made good recommendations to some shopping at Welcia and ValuMax. Near the beachfront.

SingaporeThe dinners & breakfast were below standard. I have had far better food in other Ryokan's in Japan. The quality of the food just isn't there for a Ryokan standard and the price of the accommodation is not cheaper than others with far better meals.
The hotel staff are all extremely friendly and helpful. Despite language barrier, they went the extra mile to use translators to communicate.

ThailandOnly need some more guideline during the meal. They served like a whole course almost at the same time, hence we didn't know what to eat first, and the eating etiquette. They prepared what they were going to serve in English (via QR code) yet we were not fully understand.
We are family of three, going to Kawazu during Cherry blossum festival in February. The location is not too far from the train station and literally beside the beach. The place was also not far from the starting point of the cherry blossum walk (3km along the waterway). They sent us a message beforehand that they have no staff who could speak English, but that was not quite a obstacle while we were there as they were all trying in their own way (translator, leaflet in English, simple vocab). They offered many amneties (toothbrush and paste, comb, razor, yukata as pajamas). The meal were like a banquet. We stayed for 2 nights and the meal were differed for each night, as well as breakfast. Drinks (beer Nd coffee) were offered at the designated time together with snack. Would recommend to anyone who going to visit Kawazu.

United StatesThere was nothing I didn’t like.
Enjoyed the seaside location of the ryokan and it was easily accessible by LE Odoriko train. The staff were very kind and helpful and the kaiseki meals were beautifully presented and delicious. The rooms and facilities were very clean as well.

SingaporeBreakfast at 8am was too early for my child and me. But we had to start on time as it was a full course meal served by the staff
Quiet peaceful beach front with onsen. Meals were amazing, high end Japanese cuisine.

SingaporeThe Kaiseiki meals were immaculately prepared. You could see the staff’s attention to detail, from the well pressed yukatas, the careful and conscientious meal service, the small treats left in our rooms and the rest area which had coffee and treats. The staff went out of the way to use their English translation devices to ensure that instruction was understood. There was even a QR code at meal times which led to an English menu. There was also an English speaking staff, Ridhwan, on our second stay who was very helpful and attentive. We enjoyed our conversations with him. Overall, we enjoyed the lovely service and wonderful food at the ryokan!

SwitzerlandThe property, while well maintained, is a little bit on the older side.
Fantastic location, first property at the beach side and only 5 minutes from the train station. Well preserved installations/facilities (tatami floor rooms with a sea view, restaurant hall, lobby, onsen areas). Fantastic selection of food for dinners and breakfast as part of the meal plans, cooked perfectly and served just as well. Finally, and for us most importantly, the staff is simply exceptional. They treated us like family from the moment we arrived till we left. Our stay was fantastic already, but they made it perfect.

United StatesThe futon mats were showing their age and did not provide any cushioning.
A stunning location on the beach with picturesque baths and delicious meals. While most staff do not speak English, each has an electronic translator on them that does good work. Having a little Japanese under your belt will help ease things. Can't beat washing away the day in a rotenburo overlooking the sea.

United StatesIt is a little bit dated but still in very good condition.
This hotel has rooms that open up to the beach and allow you to have the sound of ocean waves and fresh air at night. The Japanese breakfast was excellent and very tasty. I would return again and recommend to my friends.

United Statesold building, rooms with water stains on walls and broken plaster, bad service and cheap utilities. I felt this is not a 4 stars and somehow cheated with price higher than other ryokans which have much higher quality
Disappointing. Although labeled as a 4 star hotel I think this is probably ~2 stars. The room was in need of renovation and painting, with brown water stains on walls and furniture, and cracks and dents in the plaster. The quality of the utilities provided is low and we ended up using our own shampoo/soap. The location is nice but the windows and balcony needed cleaning to make the view attractive. We were coming from another ryokan in Shima which, for a cheaper price, boosted 3-4 times higher quality with meals included. I am sorry to say that after many years traveling in Japan and using booking.com this is the first time I felt not getting my money worth. The best part of the stay was the private bathroom, which is new. however this is on the side of the building with view of beach but also highway :(. The room and balcony was also a bit dusty, which was not great for my asthma.
