Each review score is between 1-10. To get the overall score that you see, we add up all the review scores we’ve received and divide that total by the number of review scores we’ve received. We are currently testing a weighted review system in Malta and Iceland (excluding hotel and vacation rental chains). For properties in these countries, the more recent the review, the bigger the impact on the total review score calculation. In addition, guests can give separate ‘subscores’ in crucial areas, such as location, cleanliness, staff, comfort, facilities, value for money and free Wi-Fi. Note that guests submit their subscores and their overall scores independently, so there’s no direct link between them.
You can review an Accommodation that you booked through our Platform if you stayed there or if you arrived at the property but didn’t actually stay there. To edit a review you’ve already submitted, please contact our Customer Service team.
We have people and automated systems that specialise in detecting fake reviews submitted to our Platform. If we find any, we delete them and, if necessary, take action against whoever is responsible.
Anyone else who spots something suspicious can always report it to our Customer Service team, so our Fraud team can investigate.
Ideally, we would publish every review we receive, whether positive or negative. However, we won’t display any review that includes or refers to (among other things):
To make sure reviews are relevant, we may only accept reviews that are submitted within 3 months of checking out, and we may stop showing reviews once they’re 36 months old – or if the Accommodation has a change of ownership.
An Accommodation may choose to reply to a review.
When you see multiple reviews, the most recent ones will be at the top, subject to a few other factors (what language a review is in, whether it’s just a rating or contains comments as well, etc.). If you like, you can sort and/or filter them (by time of year, review score, etc.).
We sometimes show external review scores from other well-known travel websites. We make it clear when we’ve done this.
These guidelines and standards aim to keep the content on Booking.com relevant and family-friendly without limiting expression of strong opinions. They are also applicable regardless of the sentiment of the comment.
Contributions should be travel related. The most helpful contributions are detailed and help others make better decisions. Please don’t include personal, political, ethical, or religious commentary. Promotional content will be removed and issues concerning Booking.com’s services should be routed to our Customer Service or Accommodation Service teams.
Contributions should be appropriate for a global audience. Please avoid using profanity or attempts to approximate profanity with creative spelling, in any language. Comments and media that include 'hate speech', discriminatory remarks, threats, sexually explicit remarks, violence, and the promotion of illegal activity are not permitted.
All content should be genuine and unique to the guest. Reviews are most valuable when they are original and unbiased. Your contribution should be yours. Booking.com property partners should not post on behalf of guests or offer incentives in exchange for reviews. Attempts to bring down the rating of a competitor by submitting a negative review will not be tolerated.
Respect the privacy of others. Booking.com will make an effort to obscure email addresses, telephone numbers, website addresses, social media accounts, and similar details.
The opinions expressed in contributions are those of Booking.com customers and properties and not of Booking.com. Booking.com does not accept responsibility or liability for any reviews or responses. By default, reviews are sorted based on the date of the review and on additional criteria to display the most relevant reviews, including but not limited to: your language, reviews with text, and non-anonymous reviews. Additional sorting options may be available (by type of traveller, by score, etc.).

IndonesiaThe hotel didn't have a private shower in the room. Its all about public bath (you bathe altogether in one open space with the others), which reflects an old time Japanese ryokan style. There's no one bathe at the public bath during my time bathing there though. You can have private bath but with an additional charge.
Ryokan style hotel with a quiet, private, and clean rooms provided for the guest. Very suitable if you're looking for a quiet yet nice place to stay.

United StatesThe location is not too far from the train station but for kids and older adults, it may be hard to walk to because of the hill you have to climb. Recommend taking a taxi.
Very clean and the family room was spacious. The staff and services were top notch. The food was amazing, Traditional Japanese Kaiseki style. Food might not be suitable for non-Japanese kids though. The kashikiri onsen was great and the views were awesome. The drinks in the fridge were part of the service. The yukatas were also nice. The Odawara plum cider was also delicious.

Chinanot that I can think of, everything was great. But Please keep in mind to take a cab at the train station. otherwise it's gonna be a 15min uphill walk which was not easy when you have luggages.
the whole trip was absolutely amazing. we arrived a few day's before Christmas and seems like we are the only tenants there at that time, so basically we have the whole place to ourselves. it was quiet, the room was clean and traditional just like we imagined. the staff was super friendly and the private bath was definitely awesome. both dinner and breakfadt were breathtaking. we definitely will be back again.

One of our favourite stays in Japan! A little on the pricey side but worth it after two weeks travelling. Very peaceful hotel with lovely, welcoming staff. The public onsens are split by gender, and I mostly had it to myself. The private onsen was worth the extra cost and perfect for couples. We had the traditional kaiseki meal one evening which was an amazing experience (book early as they fill up fast!) I let them know I’m a pescatarian beforehand which they were able to accommodate. It’s important to note that it’s up quite a steep hill from the town and station which isn’t suitable to walking with suitcases (but taxis are easy and cheap). But normally, it’s a nice walk to town where you can catch a bus easily to the rest of the Hakone area, Lake Ashi etc. The whole stay was a great experience, staying in our first ryokan, the onsens, wearing yukata and soaking up the beauty of Hakone.

United StatesYou have to take a bus or call a taxi to get here. You can walk it is only 15 min from the station but there are a lot of hills and the roads have a lot of fast cars. It is walkable but you will tire yourself out; It was a hike getting to the place. The rooms were very small and they did not set the bed for you. The elevator was super small. They do have instructions on how to do it though. They do open and close the Rokan door at midnight till 5 am so I don't think it's for people who like to adventure out at night.
Beautiful Ryokan. The onsen was top notch and the views were immaculate. Not too busy when we went and I got to soak in a public bath with no one around. It was a private bath both night and day. After all the people you encounter everywhere in Japan, this was a great way to relax and be at peace. You do not wear shoes in the ryokan at all so you know the floor is super clean. The food and service was delicious. Mainly they give both dinner and breakfast!!! The view of the Ryokan was just beautiful. Breathtaking even when it is raining.

VietnamI recently visited a Ryokan in Japan for the first time, and it was an incredible experience when I chose Hatago Kintoen for the first time. The property was absolutely beautiful and clean. My friends and I thoroughly enjoyed the delicious Japanese breakfast and dinner, which offered a wide variety of dishes with amazing flavors. Moreover, the public outdoor onsen was incredibly relaxing and had a stunning view. Lastly, I must mention that the staff were incredibly friendly and accommodating. Overall, it was an amazing stay and I highly recommend this ryokan to anyone visiting Hakone.

United KingdomEverything was really great. The only note was that it was a longer walk than we expected from the town and quite steep, but we soon learned the bus route, which stops directly outside. If you have luggage, don't try to walk there. We had sent our luggage ahead, so didn't have to carry anything there.
The room was beautiful, with a view of the mountains – it really was magical. The whole Ryokan was beautiful and peaceful, and we loved swapping our clothes for Yukata, and relaxing in the onsen, the lounge and in our room. The staff were very friendly and helpful. At first we were worried about the lack of shower in the room, but with the onsen - it really wasn't needed. The ryokan is close to the town, but a bit of a steep walk, but there is a bus route that goes past. It is also close to other onsen in the area.

United StatesThe sink was very small. Water always got on the counter and sometimes the floor. No instructions on how to put on a yukata for foreigners.
Dinner and breakfast are available for an additional fee. It features a course meal served at the 1st floor of the ryokan. It is NOT a traditional kaiseki, where it is served in your room. Private onsen is nice, but is NOT worth it in my opinion. There are not many rooms for customers. the 2 nights i was there to shower, the public onsen was empty.

PolandWe arrived at noon and the hotel was closed. Thankfully we just had backpacks so we went on with our day and came back before 5PM for check-in. Be mindful of opening hours if you don't want to be left stranded.
Kintouen is a very relaxing ryokan (traditional Japanese inn). It is quiet, the staff is eager to help, the food is of high quality and you get plenty of it (our dinner was made of 8 different dishes + fruits for dessert). We booked the private onsen (hot bath) on the rooftop for an additional fee and it was totally worth it. The Japanese-style room was comfortable and spacious. The view on the nearby forest and mountains was great to enjoy with a cup of green tea. We stayed only one night but it felt like a deep rest for our bodies and minds. The area is also great for people who enjoy nature. I strongly recommend Hakone and this hotel for recharging your batteries during what is likely a very active and sometimes stressful trip in Japan for most tourists.
