Each review score is between 1-10. To get the overall score that you see, we add up all the review scores we’ve received and divide that total by the number of review scores we’ve received. We are currently testing a weighted review system in Malta and Iceland (excluding hotel and vacation rental chains). For properties in these countries, the more recent the review, the bigger the impact on the total review score calculation. In addition, guests can give separate ‘subscores’ in crucial areas, such as location, cleanliness, staff, comfort, facilities, value for money and free Wi-Fi. Note that guests submit their subscores and their overall scores independently, so there’s no direct link between them.
You can review an Accommodation that you booked through our Platform if you stayed there or if you arrived at the property but didn’t actually stay there. To edit a review you’ve already submitted, please contact our Customer Service team.
We have people and automated systems that specialise in detecting fake reviews submitted to our Platform. If we find any, we delete them and, if necessary, take action against whoever is responsible.
Anyone else who spots something suspicious can always report it to our Customer Service team, so our Fraud team can investigate.
Ideally, we would publish every review we receive, whether positive or negative. However, we won’t display any review that includes or refers to (among other things):
To make sure reviews are relevant, we may only accept reviews that are submitted within 3 months of checking out, and we may stop showing reviews once they’re 36 months old – or if the Accommodation has a change of ownership.
An Accommodation may choose to reply to a review.
When you see multiple reviews, the most recent ones will be at the top, subject to a few other factors (what language a review is in, whether it’s just a rating or contains comments as well, etc.). If you like, you can sort and/or filter them (by time of year, review score, etc.).
We sometimes show external review scores from other well-known travel websites. We make it clear when we’ve done this.
These guidelines and standards aim to keep the content on Booking.com relevant and family-friendly without limiting expression of strong opinions. They are also applicable regardless of the sentiment of the comment.
Contributions should be travel related. The most helpful contributions are detailed and help others make better decisions. Please don’t include personal, political, ethical, or religious commentary. Promotional content will be removed and issues concerning Booking.com’s services should be routed to our Customer Service or Accommodation Service teams.
Contributions should be appropriate for a global audience. Please avoid using profanity or attempts to approximate profanity with creative spelling, in any language. Comments and media that include 'hate speech', discriminatory remarks, threats, sexually explicit remarks, violence, and the promotion of illegal activity are not permitted.
All content should be genuine and unique to the guest. Reviews are most valuable when they are original and unbiased. Your contribution should be yours. Booking.com property partners should not post on behalf of guests or offer incentives in exchange for reviews. Attempts to bring down the rating of a competitor by submitting a negative review will not be tolerated.
Respect the privacy of others. Booking.com will make an effort to obscure email addresses, telephone numbers, website addresses, social media accounts, and similar details.
The opinions expressed in contributions are those of Booking.com customers and properties and not of Booking.com. Booking.com does not accept responsibility or liability for any reviews or responses. Booking.com is a distributor (without any obligation to verify) and not a publisher of these comments and responses.
By default, reviews are sorted based on the date of the review and on additional criteria to display the most relevant reviews, including but not limited to: your language, reviews with text, and non-anonymous reviews. Additional sorting options may be available (by type of traveller, by score, etc.).

MalaysiaMaybe due to our lack of research, this place is actually a high rise building with rooms decorated as ryokan. We thought it was an actual landed house ryokan. The dinner is at another annex building. The hotel reserved the dinner time at 5pm without my knowledge. If you miss the shuttle bus, then you need a taxi or bus to reach the hotel. Do not rely on the shuttle bus timetable mentioned in the booking.com replied questions. It was misleading.
The facilities are good. They provided free tea, coffee, ice cream. Certain date and time have live concert. The onsen is big, indoor and outdoor. They have sauna and cold bath as well.

United StatesThis is more an issue with Booking.com. I would have preferred not to buy the expensive two hour dinners each night but I was not given that choice on Booking.com. Food was very expensive for family of four and I would have preferred to just order a la carte from menu. I could have used the $800 we spent for two meals on a second room for my teens. It was not clear that we were getting only one room with two beds and two futons that took up whole room. Very crowded. For families with older kids, book two rooms without dinner. It is not really for Western tastes and definitely not picky teenagers. Also, you can’t go in the onsen with a bathing suit so don’t bother if you are not comfortable being naked in front of your kids. There is a bathing suit area you can use at the attached Yunessen property but nobody told us that until we were leaving.
Lovely, high end hotel with very accommodating staff. Many nice touches like wine, iced teas and snacks in lobby, foot soaking tubs on terrace, and free ice cream. Breakfast buffet was very good and accommodates Japanese and Western tastes. Fabulous garden with bridges and waterfalls built around creek. Shuttle to various places in town. If I went again, I would ask for room facing garden because it is peaceful and lovely.

New ZealandThe mattresses need replacing - they both sank in the middle terribly which did affect our sleep.
Outdoor bath was amazing. It was a very rainy and slightly cold day/night which was perfect. The room was huge and really comfortable and lovely. Enjoyed buffet breakfast and was great to have free parking as we rented a car (highly recommend doing this instead of taking public transport).

United KingdomAt check out we requested taxi to Odawara, to be told none were available. Along with other guests we were directed to a local bus stop - bus was very crowded (many people standing with heavy bags) and slow, meaning we missed our train. Staff really should have done more to help, and for a hotel of this size and quality there should be a shuttle bus available - lots of guests were heading to Odawara on check-out. Hotel should be aware taxis are limited and make other arrangements not just leave us in the lurch, or at least provide advance warning! Spoiled an otherwise excellent stay...
Hotel is beautiful in a great location. Dinner and breakfast exceptional. Beautiful rooms, clean and very spacious. Very welcoming friendly service.

United KingdomIt was very crowded, and I requested a vegetarian meal ahead of time. For the same price, I thought my meal was a little bit disappointing. A salad instead of a multi course appetiser. Steamed vegetables with a balsamic glaze instead of steak. They tried their best I think, but even at the breakfast all of the tofu had fish in it. This is one of the most expensive places I stayed, and it was disappointing. Other places were much cheaper and put way more thought into accommodating dietary restrictions.
Beautiful room, loved the bathtub on the balcony and the open air baths. Nice staff, really comfortable place. Did their best to accommodate vegetarians

AustraliaLovely hotel, in room onsen was big enough for two short people to use and water super hot! Full bath in 15 minutes. Room very comfortable and big! Staff kind and friendly from entering. Small communication error as we requested no meat, dairy, eggs but were offered fish. This was not hotel staff fault as we should have been even more specific. The restaurant did accommodate us on the night and we still had a very nice dinner meal

United StatesPrice was a bit expensive, probably would have been more worth it if we had stayed longer and got to explore more.
Only stayed one night so my friend and I didn't get to explore too much, but it was a great stay! My friend really enjoyed the open air bath, and it was also nice to have the private one in our room. We also enjoyed the garden and the great view of the trees in the morning. We didn't choose the dinner option so had to find food elsewhere - while there's a few food options connected to the premises, a lot of them were closed the day we were there. We ended up eating at the yakiniku place, which was fine (not much meat per plate, you grilled it yourself, prices just okay). The breakfast buffet was delicious! Had a really tasty onsen egg, fish roe, oden, etc. Travel wise - we walked on our way there from the subway, then on our way out used the bus stop right outside the connected yunessun, which had information about bus stops and timing, and were able to get to where we needed (Odawara).

Netherlandslack of reasonably priced dining options. in our opinion dinner services are very much overpriced (16k and 9k pp), noise from outside (not sure what, probably swimming pool across the street? some machinery?) that prevents full leasure and relax when on the balcony
Onsen facilities, breakfast, kind service, location with a perfect view from a balcony, easy bus access, shuttle bus service, fast check-in and out, icecream coins, hotel garden, birthday gift!
