The food is very traditional Japanese and doesn't really cater for vegetarians. What is provided is exquisite but will not necessarily suit all tastes.

We very much enjoyed our stay. The hotel is very well situated and lovely. The staff are very attentive. The hotel was very responsive with questions that I sent to them in advance of our arrival. The room was clean and we had a nice view of the river.

The slightly odd constant check that we understood that we would be charged for meals that we didn’t want (we understood from the start). Slightly older feeling in the room and bathroom but still a good room. The Japanese breakfast and no other choice for breakfast.

Not the hotel's fault but we are picky eaters with a western diet and the breakfast wasn't really to our taste

Friendly staff, loads of complimentary services we didn't realise we'd get including free ramen as a late-night snack and a complimentary drinks station open all night including beer and cocktails. Open air bath in room was delightful.

The bathtub looked a little tired and the balcony area could use some touch ups. Very high price during peak season.

Comfortable and spacious room. We had a corner room on level 6 with a bathtub on the balcony overlooking the river. Very peaceful and quiet at night. The room was well equipped with amenities - a small kettle, cloth hangers, clothes refresher spray, slippers, etc. Clean and functional shower with separate toilet. The room also had an extra sink and vanity area which provided a lot of convenience. Nice Japanese-style breakfast served in the dinning room. Public onsen located on level 6, with 2 private ones (first in first served basis). The outdoor public onsen was lovely on a cold night. There was also free ramen at 10.30pm, with tea/coffee available at reception. Walkable distance to the Hakone-Yumoto station, however can be a tricky walk in bad weather, especially if you have luggage. Great for a 2 night stay in Hakone.

Rather far from station especially if you have luggage They were unable to help get transfer for us to kawaguchiko Room size was comfortable but bathroom space was tight

Nice Japanese style breakfast although we were not able to fully appreciate some of the items. Reservation staff were really helpful and prompt in answering my queries Outdoor tub in room was really nice

Liked how attentive the staff was. Breakfast was excellent. We had massage, and it was good. Overall, it was good value for money (we originally booked Yamagaso, but it seemed too expensive compared to Sara).

The open-air bath in room was not spring water

The room was clean and the staff are friendly. There was a 24 hours drinks for free and snack at different time period. These were very warm for travelers

There was no decent public transport connection from the nearby station.

Noise from bath draining quite loud from neighbouring rooms. Main meals only shabu shabu. Sofa not comfortable

We weren’t keen on the traditional breakfast but think that was mostly due to our own unfamiliarity with the very traditional foods on offer - but it was good value for the price.
