Each review score is between 1-10. To get the overall score that you see, we add up all the review scores we’ve received and divide that total by the number of review scores we’ve received. We are currently testing a weighted review system in Malta and Iceland (excluding hotel and vacation rental chains). For properties in these countries, the more recent the review, the bigger the impact on the total review score calculation. In addition, guests can give separate ‘subscores’ in crucial areas, such as location, cleanliness, staff, comfort, facilities, value for money and free Wi-Fi. Note that guests submit their subscores and their overall scores independently, so there’s no direct link between them.
You can review an Accommodation that you booked through our Platform if you stayed there or if you arrived at the property but didn’t actually stay there. To edit a review you’ve already submitted, please contact our Customer Service team.
We have people and automated systems that specialise in detecting fake reviews submitted to our Platform. If we find any, we delete them and, if necessary, take action against whoever is responsible.
Anyone else who spots something suspicious can always report it to our Customer Service team, so our Fraud team can investigate.
Ideally, we would publish every review we receive, whether positive or negative. However, we won’t display any review that includes or refers to (among other things):
To make sure reviews are relevant, we may only accept reviews that are submitted within 3 months of checking out, and we may stop showing reviews once they’re 36 months old – or if the Accommodation has a change of ownership.
An Accommodation may choose to reply to a review.
When you see multiple reviews, the most recent ones will be at the top, subject to a few other factors (what language a review is in, whether it’s just a rating or contains comments as well, etc.). If you like, you can sort and/or filter them (by time of year, review score, etc.).
We sometimes show external review scores from other well-known travel websites. We make it clear when we’ve done this.
These guidelines and standards aim to keep the content on Booking.com relevant and family-friendly without limiting expression of strong opinions. They are also applicable regardless of the sentiment of the comment.
Contributions should be travel related. The most helpful contributions are detailed and help others make better decisions. Please don’t include personal, political, ethical, or religious commentary. Promotional content will be removed and issues concerning Booking.com’s services should be routed to our Customer Service or Accommodation Service teams.
Contributions should be appropriate for a global audience. Please avoid using profanity or attempts to approximate profanity with creative spelling, in any language. Comments and media that include 'hate speech', discriminatory remarks, threats, sexually explicit remarks, violence, and the promotion of illegal activity are not permitted.
All content should be genuine and unique to the guest. Reviews are most valuable when they are original and unbiased. Your contribution should be yours. Booking.com property partners should not post on behalf of guests or offer incentives in exchange for reviews. Attempts to bring down the rating of a competitor by submitting a negative review will not be tolerated.
Respect the privacy of others. Booking.com will make an effort to obscure email addresses, telephone numbers, website addresses, social media accounts, and similar details.
The opinions expressed in contributions are those of Booking.com customers and properties and not of Booking.com. Booking.com does not accept responsibility or liability for any reviews or responses. Booking.com is a distributor (without any obligation to verify) and not a publisher of these comments and responses.
By default, reviews are sorted based on the date of the review and on additional criteria to display the most relevant reviews, including but not limited to: your language, reviews with text, and non-anonymous reviews. Additional sorting options may be available (by type of traveller, by score, etc.).

GermanyThe prices are high. Breakfast is too expensive and not the best value for the money. The hotel facilities are a bit outdated - bathroom, furniture, carpet….
The hotel has an amazing view and starting point for the daily trips. The bus stop is in front of the hotel, which makes it even easier. The rooms are spacious and clean.

United StatesBeds were very uncomfortable - mattress was hard. There were literally no dinner options around the hotel - the operating hours listed for every single restaurant within walking distance online were incorrect - and hotel dinner option was very expensive. Very few buses came at night so we ended up walking over a mile in the rain to get food at a pizza place.
Gorgeous views of Lake Ashinoko and Mt Fuji. Excellent location to easily board the sightseeing cruise across the lake. Delicious breakfast buffet, very friendly and helpful staff. Luggage storage was excellent. Welcome cocktail was a very nice touch.

AustraliaThe bar food offering could be a little more varied. We did arrive at 7 but the restaurant would only take reservations prior to the time we arrived therefore we had no choice with little opportunity to dine elsewhere. It would have also been pleasant to have had our bags taken to the room.
The room was spacious and the lake view spectacular. The grounds were well cared for and the service was great. Lovely location. We had a beautiful night in a very quiet lakeside room. We awoke to a view of the lake in the foreground and mt Fuji in the distance. Breathtaking

United StatesThere was hair on the shower wall. Otherwise it was a great stay.
Location is on the lake. Lots of activities available but it's still pretty early into spring so they weren't accessible at the time of my stay. Bus stop is directly I. Front of hotel and they have parking on site. Great view of the lake from the room.

United KingdomOur room was much too hot and we couldn’t find a way to cool it. The pricing in the bar and restaurant was exceptionally high.

United KingdomWonderful location, friendly staff, and fabulous room! It was a highlight of our trip. We had room 303, and the view was incredible. The decor in the room is of an older style, but this is part of the charm, and we couldn't fault any part of our stay. The room and bathroom are huge! If we could have stayed longer, we would. Thanks for having us!

United StatesThe nice green lawn at the edge of the lake that you see in the pictures of Hakone Hotel was gone, replaced by concrete. They were in the midst of rolling out some sort of artificial lawn that may eventually be covering the concrete, but right now it’s not very scenic. Also, the water in the toilet in the bathroom kept running after flushing and wouldn’t shut off. The place is a little worn out, in my opinion. The temperature in the room cannot be adjusted, and the window doesn’t open. The toothbrush and razor in the room were no better quality than those in any cheap business hotel. The breakfast was rather underwhelming; it was not as good as a lot of breakfast buffets at standard business hotels. There aren’t really many food options in the area, so either eat elsewhere or bring food with you from 7-11 in Moto-Hakone. The room was really nice overall, but not really worth the high price.
Nice relaxing view of the lake and Mt. Fuji. The rotemburo was great. The room was very spacious, with high ceilings and a huge window. Comfortable armchair. Lots of hangers and closet space. Excellent coffee machine in the room. Huge bathtub, although I used the onsen instead.

United KingdomNothing really, a very nice hotel.
Really lovely hotel in a great location. The view of Mt Fuji from our bedroom on the first morning was wonderful. Nice big room and great bathroom. If you're planning to do the Hakone loop, the pirate ship departs from a 5 minute walk away, so really convenient. Breakfast was lovely with plenty of choice.

ThailandThe public bath is very disappointing, it is too small to fit the hotel. There are only a 6-person bath pool and one sauna, no outdoor pool.
Great location, we appreciate the view of Mt. Fuji at the end of the lake from our room window very much. Nice hotel, beautiful interior design, and spacious room make this hotel above 4-star hotel.

United StatesThe facility is older and it was most apparent in the bathroom with substandard plumbing in shower/bath. Was disappointed in the lack of television English news stations for the tourist that other hotels offered. Not many eating establishments around (everything closes early too): ended up walking (1.2km-20 min) to a 7-11 for food to bring back to the room. The hotel breakfast made up for it though!
Exceptional view, lovely spacious room, quiet, public spa/hot bath option was lovely, dining area for breakfast was perfect with views of the lake and a variety of hot and cold healthy food items, along with hot daily special menu options wonderful lobby area with access to free hot and cold drink items

AustraliaFood options were limited and expensive and given everything in the area is closed by 5pm we were struggling to find anywhere for dinner. We had a welcome drink in the bar but it was a large cold and draughty room and lacked atmosphere. Its probably much nicer in teh summer when you can sit out in the gardens by the lake.
Gorgeous location on the lake, and our view over the lake and Mount Fuji was fantastic. Our room was huge especially for Japan where rooms are typically small, and had very comfortable beds, and lovely pyjamas. The onsen was great - particularly the outdoor one. The hotel exterior is interesting and imposing. We loved our stay.
