Each review score is between 1-10. To get the overall score that you see, we add up all the review scores we’ve received and divide that total by the number of review scores we’ve received. We are currently testing a weighted review system in Malta and Iceland (excluding hotel and vacation rental chains). For properties in these countries, the more recent the review, the bigger the impact on the total review score calculation. In addition, guests can give separate ‘subscores’ in crucial areas, such as location, cleanliness, staff, comfort, facilities, value for money and free Wi-Fi. Note that guests submit their subscores and their overall scores independently, so there’s no direct link between them.
You can review an Accommodation that you booked through our Platform if you stayed there or if you arrived at the property but didn’t actually stay there. To edit a review you’ve already submitted, please contact our Customer Service team.
We have people and automated systems that specialise in detecting fake reviews submitted to our Platform. If we find any, we delete them and, if necessary, take action against whoever is responsible.
Anyone else who spots something suspicious can always report it to our Customer Service team, so our Fraud team can investigate.
Ideally, we would publish every review we receive, whether positive or negative. However, we won’t display any review that includes or refers to (among other things):
To make sure reviews are relevant, we may only accept reviews that are submitted within 3 months of checking out, and we may stop showing reviews once they’re 36 months old – or if the Accommodation has a change of ownership.
An Accommodation may choose to reply to a review.
When you see multiple reviews, the most recent ones will be at the top, subject to a few other factors (what language a review is in, whether it’s just a rating or contains comments as well, etc.). If you like, you can sort and/or filter them (by time of year, review score, etc.).
We sometimes show external review scores from other well-known travel websites. We make it clear when we’ve done this.
These guidelines and standards aim to keep the content on Booking.com relevant and family-friendly without limiting expression of strong opinions. They are also applicable regardless of the sentiment of the comment.
Contributions should be travel related. The most helpful contributions are detailed and help others make better decisions. Please don’t include personal, political, ethical, or religious commentary. Promotional content will be removed and issues concerning Booking.com’s services should be routed to our Customer Service or Accommodation Service teams.
Contributions should be appropriate for a global audience. Please avoid using profanity or attempts to approximate profanity with creative spelling, in any language. Comments and media that include 'hate speech', discriminatory remarks, threats, sexually explicit remarks, violence, and the promotion of illegal activity are not permitted.
All content should be genuine and unique to the guest. Reviews are most valuable when they are original and unbiased. Your contribution should be yours. Booking.com property partners should not post on behalf of guests or offer incentives in exchange for reviews. Attempts to bring down the rating of a competitor by submitting a negative review will not be tolerated.
Respect the privacy of others. Booking.com will make an effort to obscure email addresses, telephone numbers, website addresses, social media accounts, and similar details.
The opinions expressed in contributions are those of Booking.com customers and properties and not of Booking.com. Booking.com does not accept responsibility or liability for any reviews or responses. Booking.com is a distributor (without any obligation to verify) and not a publisher of these comments and responses.
By default, reviews are sorted based on the date of the review and on additional criteria to display the most relevant reviews, including but not limited to: your language, reviews with text, and non-anonymous reviews. Additional sorting options may be available (by type of traveller, by score, etc.).

AustraliaCan't really fault anything! Thanks for an awesome stay.
BEST hotel of my trip due in most part to the most lovely hosts ever! The two ladies who run the hotel were both so friendly and welcoming and always wanted to help in any way that they could. Their energy will bring a smile to your face. Room was clean and had plenty of space, split system heating/cooling which worked great. Very good onsen downstairs (open 24 hours), coin laundry, and drying room for ski gear was very effective. Also the best foot massager machines available to use free of charge as well. Breakfast was solid, a traditional Japanese set menu which varied every day, plus cereal/toast/coffee that you could serve yourself as well. Good location, very close to bus terminal (3-4 minute walk) and easy walk to spots for dinner.

MexicoI didn't like that the rooms are on floors between the elevators, which means that it's necessary to up or down stairs with your luggage to get to your room.
The breakfast is a little bit exotic for occidentals but is definitely a good and new experience. The view from the breakfast is incredible. I enjoy the foot massage machines in the lobby.

AustraliaGreat place to stay in Happo. Near a ski rental shop as well. Slight walk to restaurants and the bus stop, but definitely worth it. Staff were very hospitable and helpful. Reminder about Happo as a town - make sure you reserve for dinner! Places fill up fast.

PhilippinesWell, I like everything there. Unless u are a very picky guest you will find something to dislike. Generally, all was well. So I give it a good review.
It is very clean and surprisingly spacious for Japan standard. The location is excellent, just a 5 minute walk to Happo One ski resort and to the bus terminal as well. The onsen, although not big was a bonus in the hotel. The staff were very welcoming and helpful.

MalaysiaI mentioned good location, but there are others that are even closer or right next to the bus stops for the slopes (especially when you are walking in your ski boots). There’s a small flight of stairs at the entrance that requires you to drag your luggages up, before you get to the lift to your rooms.
What a nice quiet place to stay in Hakuba. First of all, the location is good as it’s within walking distance to the bus stop for Happo One slopes, as well as the main Happo Bus Terminal for the other slopes. Lawson & many of the restaurants for Happo One are all within walking distances. The staff are fantastic, they definitely pay every attention to detail & take care of you. The breakfast every morning was brilliant, with daily varieties (we were there for 6 nights) & definitely filled us up before our days at the slopes. The Japanese traditional tatami room is decent though a bit small, but that’s to be expected & more than adequate for both of us to have our two luggages opened. Oddly our beds on the floor were mattresses rather than futons, but not that this was an issue. The other facilities like dry storage lockers for your ski equipment is good & plenty of space. The onsen is good & up to the Japanese hot standards, though only downside (depending on your preference) on this is that it’s only indoor. Daily usage of the onsen, I think I’ve only seen 2-3 people during the entire period so it’s quite private as well.

United StatesWe had the Japanese style bedroom so beds were on the floor . The duvet covers do not go all the way around so you can see the stained duvets from the top . Not very welcoming to get into bed . Closets had no hangers and there were no HOOKS anywhere to hang up your ski parkas, helmets , etc . Pls add hooks by front entrance , outside bathroom room and in the room so clothes could be organized.
The hospitality was excellent . Owner was attentive and her husband who is the cook was amazing . We had dinner there and it was the best . The onsen was great and felt very authentic. The location is quite good with shuttle to go to happy one nearby. You can walk to restaurants very easily and main bus station

SingaporeHappokan is a comfortable stay for the winter season. Extremely near to the ski slopes with many food options around. There is an onsen within the hotel and while it is relatively small, it is a great way to relax after a day out.

JapanThe beds were a little weird, I prefer the Japanese futon over a western mattress. Nonetheless, I was able to sleep because I was tired from skiing.
Pretty good budget hotel in Hakuba. Convenient to the shuttle bus and the big bus station. Staff was quite friendly and I appreciated the coin lockers and area to stow gear. Also staff were very helpful with ta-q-bin. The onsen was clean and refreshing.

AustraliaThere was only one coin-operated washing machine and dryer, I would have loved more so we don't have to wait when it's occupied by someone else.
The staff are exceptional, lovely, and service minded. Room was clean and the breakfast was fantastic. Fresh towels every day, with room service every other. Only 15 minute walk to the Happo-One ski-slopes, and lots of restaurants around. The on-site onsen pool was an added bonus.

AustraliaThe room is a bit on the small side, however this is fairly common in Japan especially in the ski town. The Fulton is the room is a but too hard to our taste.
Great location, the hotel is about 5 mins walk from Hakuba bus terminal. It is a family run hotel and the fantastic breakfast is freshly cooked each morning. The hotel staff is very friendly and accommodating, albeit they can speak very basic English, there is no trouble communicating with them. You can also get a discounted lift pass for Kakuba Goryu from the reception. There is an onsite onsen which helps to relax the muscles after a day of skiing.

1/ the location: very close to Happo bus terminal where you can go to or back from Nagano station or just getting around in Hakuba 2/ the staff: this is definitely the hightlight since they are extremely helpful and kind. They will try to accommodate your request or ask until it is met. I’m very grateful when I can have their support when in this far away from home land and during the very cold and snowy season when services like F&B, transportation is slower in general 3/ the chef: Happokan definitely needs to promote its kitchen more. We highly appreciate the thoughtfulness and care of the receptionists and chef when we asked for a different than sukiyaki, they put up a real good menu with excellent execution and service. The chef went out to pick up food and cooked for us. Very enjoyable ❤️ 4/ the room is large enough and very clean
