Each review score is between 1-10. To get the overall score that you see, we add up all the review scores we’ve received and divide that total by the number of review scores we’ve received. We are currently testing a weighted review system in Malta and Iceland (excluding hotel and vacation rental chains). For properties in these countries, the more recent the review, the bigger the impact on the total review score calculation. In addition, guests can give separate ‘subscores’ in crucial areas, such as location, cleanliness, staff, comfort, facilities, value for money and free Wi-Fi. Note that guests submit their subscores and their overall scores independently, so there’s no direct link between them.
You can review an Accommodation that you booked through our Platform if you stayed there or if you arrived at the property but didn’t actually stay there. To edit a review you’ve already submitted, please contact our Customer Service team.
We have people and automated systems that specialise in detecting fake reviews submitted to our Platform. If we find any, we delete them and, if necessary, take action against whoever is responsible.
Anyone else who spots something suspicious can always report it to our Customer Service team, so our Fraud team can investigate.
Ideally, we would publish every review we receive, whether positive or negative. However, we won’t display any review that includes or refers to (among other things):
To make sure reviews are relevant, we may only accept reviews that are submitted within 3 months of checking out, and we may stop showing reviews once they’re 36 months old – or if the Accommodation has a change of ownership.
An Accommodation may choose to reply to a review.
When you see multiple reviews, the most recent ones will be at the top, subject to a few other factors (what language a review is in, whether it’s just a rating or contains comments as well, etc.). If you like, you can sort and/or filter them (by time of year, review score, etc.).
We sometimes show external review scores from other well-known travel websites. We make it clear when we’ve done this.
These guidelines and standards aim to keep the content on Booking.com relevant and family-friendly without limiting expression of strong opinions. They are also applicable regardless of the sentiment of the comment.
Contributions should be travel related. The most helpful contributions are detailed and help others make better decisions. Please don’t include personal, political, ethical, or religious commentary. Promotional content will be removed and issues concerning Booking.com’s services should be routed to our Customer Service or Accommodation Service teams.
Contributions should be appropriate for a global audience. Please avoid using profanity or attempts to approximate profanity with creative spelling, in any language. Comments and media that include 'hate speech', discriminatory remarks, threats, sexually explicit remarks, violence, and the promotion of illegal activity are not permitted.
All content should be genuine and unique to the guest. Reviews are most valuable when they are original and unbiased. Your contribution should be yours. Booking.com property partners should not post on behalf of guests or offer incentives in exchange for reviews. Attempts to bring down the rating of a competitor by submitting a negative review will not be tolerated.
Respect the privacy of others. Booking.com will make an effort to obscure email addresses, telephone numbers, website addresses, social media accounts, and similar details.
The opinions expressed in contributions are those of Booking.com customers and properties and not of Booking.com. Booking.com does not accept responsibility or liability for any reviews or responses. Booking.com is a distributor (without any obligation to verify) and not a publisher of these comments and responses.
By default, reviews are sorted based on the date of the review and on additional criteria to display the most relevant reviews, including but not limited to: your language, reviews with text, and non-anonymous reviews. Additional sorting options may be available (by type of traveller, by score, etc.).

United StatesEverything was perfect!
Wonderful hosts who are genuinely interested in the comfort and needs of the guests make this place a very special one. The house has all modern amenities and luxurious furnishings and is super cozy. The location is very close to Saiin station and there is a Life Mibu grocery store within walking distance, making it very ideal. Would definitely love to stay here again.

AustraliaNothing at all, completely perfect experience.
I wish I knew the Japanese word for perfection, because that is what I would use to describe the entire experience Haruka and her husband offered us. She offered us tea and sweets on arrival and went above and beyond for the entire stay. It really felt like a home away from home. We will definitely be back the next time we are in Kyoto 10/10 sugoi, you will not find a better stay in Kyoto.

New ZealandNothing to complain about.
Haruka & her husband were very warm & helpful, they did everything for us way beyond our expectations. The house is very clean, everything is provided in the house. Very close to the station (about 5 mins walk) that can connect you to Kiyomizu-dera, Kinkakuji and many other sight seeing places. I definitely recommend this house. Hopefully next time we're going to Kyoto we could stay at Haruka House again.

It is in a quiet neighborhood and you have easy access to most sights. i was particularly impressed by how our host was invested to make our transfer to the train station super early in the morning.

SingaporeOne minor issue - the area outside the room at Level 1 can get a bit cold as there is no heating.
Hosts: Haruka and her husband were great hosts and we felt very welcome to stay in their property. We had wonderful chats and they made us felt very at home. Room: The room at level 1 was sufficiently big for a couple and has many amenities - huge wardrobe, microwave, and toaster etc. Heating was excellent in the room and the bed was big and comfortable. The basin and bathroom are just outside the room and was exclusively available for our use. The shower room at level 2 was shared between us and the hosts; it was clean and had ample hot water. Location: The property is just a short walk from Sai station where it was very convenient to take the train, streetcar and buses to get to the tourist attractions. Cats: not an issue for non-cat lovers to stay onsite as the cats do not come into our living space. Overall: We really enjoyed our stay and my partner commented that she had the best sleep here in our 2-week Kansai trip.

AustraliaHaruka was an incredible host! We felt so welcomed and at home. We had our own private room, toilet and sink. It was a great location with the best ramen restaurant ever (Haruka and her husband recommended it to us). Would highly highly recommend others to stay with these beautiful people :)

New ZealandThe taxi drivers at Kyoto station didn’t know the address so we put it into Google maps and they used our phone for the journey.
To those unfamiliar with Kyoto this apartment can seem to be off the beaten path but it’s not! Being so close to Saiin station with its very regular and speedy trains to downtown Kyoto (shops, markets, Gion) in one direction and Osaka in the other; the tram to Arashiyama; buses to the Golden Temple etc it’s a fantastic place to stay. You only make one train change to get to Kyoto station. It’s even within walking distance of a JR station. The apartment is very comfortable and homely, and the owner goes out of her way to make you feel welcome and at ease. There is a great supermarket just around the corner and if you want to prepare meals at home the kitchen has everything you need.

EstoniaAbsolutely nothing - except maybe that we'll now have to install a Japanese toilet at home because we got so used to its comforts!
This was an absolutely magnificent stay with the best amenities and support anyone could've asked for. Haruka and her husband were immensely helpful and attentive, going above and beyond in giving us tips and guidance, and always keeping us supplied with amenities. The house had more amenities than I've seen anywhere else - in addition to towels and linens, there was also shampoo, toothpaste, toothbrushes and even makeup remover. We didn't use the kitchen very much as we were out and about a lot, but there were lots of spices and basic cooking supplies available, and we appreciated the toaster oven and coffee maker a lot. The bed was beautifully comfortable and soft, as were the pillows and comforters. The whole house was very clean and the tiny garden instilled a nice sense of calm, while at the same time we were very close to the metro station, allowing us to get around easily every day. There are supermarkets and convenience stores nearby, as well as a vending machine right outside the house. We've never felt more at home anywhere else.

United Arab EmiratesThe property has everything you need for a vacation in Kyoto, the location has excellent transport links and the property was in a peaceful residential area. The most wonderful surprise of all was how helpful Haruka and her husband were, they spoke great English, gave us advice for how to get to the property easily via the local trains, provided us with maps of the area and gave us recommendations for some of the different tourism spots in the area.

United StatesThat we didn't stay longer! No complaints.
The hosts were really accommodating and nice. Ms. Haruka was kind enough to meet us by the station and take us to the lodgings when we first arrived (we had got a little lost on our way there). We were also treated to some great tea and persimmons when we arrived; very delicious! The location was situated near the station, so getting around the city wasn't too difficult. Accommodations were great, and we enjoyed the very cozy feeling when we would return home in the evenings after being out and about the city.

Haruka is a really lovely host. She kept in contact and even gave us an explanation of the kyoto sighting options and how to go around. She even prepared fruits for us whenever we came back early. Would return here again if I came back to kyoto.

AustraliaThe neighbourhood itself is quiet and safe but not really a restaurant or nightlife area. You need to go into Kyoto by train for most things. The bathroom is shared with the hosts upstairs in their living quarters and although they always made it available to use, it can feel a little awkward. The room.does have its own toilet and sink which is downstairs near the room- this made sharing a bathroom for showers bearable. The room itself is small (standard Japanese) so we had to reconfigure slightly to fit both of our open suitcases. Not a big issue but something to get used to in Japan.
The hosts were friendly and very accommodating. Haruka went out of her way to make us feel welcome and help us with anything we needed. The room and rest of the house was very clean and excellently presented and when we were home (which was not often) Haruka would offer us tea or snacks which was lovely. She also offered to do a load of washing for us which was appreciated. This is the kind.of accommodation where the owners genuinely want to help you out and make sure you have everything you need. Very different to a homestay where you never see the owners.
