Each review score is between 1-10. To get the overall score that you see, we add up all the review scores we’ve received and divide that total by the number of review scores we’ve received. We are currently testing a weighted review system in Malta and Iceland (excluding hotel and vacation rental chains). For properties in these countries, the more recent the review, the bigger the impact on the total review score calculation. In addition, guests can give separate ‘subscores’ in crucial areas, such as location, cleanliness, staff, comfort, facilities, value for money and free Wi-Fi. Note that guests submit their subscores and their overall scores independently, so there’s no direct link between them.
You can review an Accommodation that you booked through our Platform if you stayed there or if you arrived at the property but didn’t actually stay there. To edit a review you’ve already submitted, please contact our Customer Service team.
We have people and automated systems that specialise in detecting fake reviews submitted to our Platform. If we find any, we delete them and, if necessary, take action against whoever is responsible.
Anyone else who spots something suspicious can always report it to our Customer Service team, so our Fraud team can investigate.
Ideally, we would publish every review we receive, whether positive or negative. However, we won’t display any review that includes or refers to (among other things):
To make sure reviews are relevant, we may only accept reviews that are submitted within 3 months of checking out, and we may stop showing reviews once they’re 36 months old – or if the Accommodation has a change of ownership.
An Accommodation may choose to reply to a review.
When you see multiple reviews, the most recent ones will be at the top, subject to a few other factors (what language a review is in, whether it’s just a rating or contains comments as well, etc.). If you like, you can sort and/or filter them (by time of year, review score, etc.).
We sometimes show external review scores from other well-known travel websites. We make it clear when we’ve done this.
These guidelines and standards aim to keep the content on Booking.com relevant and family-friendly without limiting expression of strong opinions. They are also applicable regardless of the sentiment of the comment.
Contributions should be travel related. The most helpful contributions are detailed and help others make better decisions. Please don’t include personal, political, ethical, or religious commentary. Promotional content will be removed and issues concerning Booking.com’s services should be routed to our Customer Service or Accommodation Service teams.
Contributions should be appropriate for a global audience. Please avoid using profanity or attempts to approximate profanity with creative spelling, in any language. Comments and media that include 'hate speech', discriminatory remarks, threats, sexually explicit remarks, violence, and the promotion of illegal activity are not permitted.
All content should be genuine and unique to the guest. Reviews are most valuable when they are original and unbiased. Your contribution should be yours. Booking.com property partners should not post on behalf of guests or offer incentives in exchange for reviews. Attempts to bring down the rating of a competitor by submitting a negative review will not be tolerated.
Respect the privacy of others. Booking.com will make an effort to obscure email addresses, telephone numbers, website addresses, social media accounts, and similar details.
The opinions expressed in contributions are those of Booking.com customers and properties and not of Booking.com. Booking.com does not accept responsibility or liability for any reviews or responses. Booking.com is a distributor (without any obligation to verify) and not a publisher of these comments and responses.
By default, reviews are sorted based on the date of the review and on additional criteria to display the most relevant reviews, including but not limited to: your language, reviews with text, and non-anonymous reviews. Additional sorting options may be available (by type of traveller, by score, etc.).

GermanyYou have your own space in the dormitory with tatami mats and it’s very close to a tattoo-friendly onsen, bus station and to a lake. The owner and the staff was friendly! There are not many people in the guesthouse, so it’s a really nice place to calm down.

ThailandThe atmosphere of the accommodation is very good, especially when spring arrives. Surrounded by beautiful nature in the old style. But it is modern and comfortable. There are musical instruments to play. The home owner and his team are very hospitable. Suitable for staying alone or in groups.

AustraliaNo complaints at all, just be sure to plan your adventures around the timetable of the shuttle bus, with the bus stop less than 100m from the front door.
Incredible location and a beautiful building, the staff were extremely friendly and helpful. Very well appointed kitchen, which is helpful as the guesthouse is somewhat far from restaurants, it was a pleasure to do some cooking and enjoy the guesthouse as a home.

CanadaThe beds were somewhat uncomfortable, although if you're on the tatami mat it shouldn't be a problem. Additionally, there are many stinkbugs due to the nature of the building's architecture however it wasn't that noticeable. Finally while I didn't have any issues myself, if you hope to stay in the higher parts of the building, accessibility may be an issue as the stairs/ladder are quite steep.
Very friendly and helpful staff! It was amazing to stay in a traditional Japanese thatched house (over 300 years old). The accommodation was warm and had a very cosy lounge area (with guitars and other instruments to play) and lots of cooking space. The location was also quite spectacular with views of the city at night and located next to a lake, park, and sports facilities. There is also a bus stop directly outside of the property. Definitely a must if you're planning to stay in Nanto.

JapanDue to the warm summer, there were a lot of buds sneaking into the bulding. It was annoying to see and smell them near the room I slept.
We liked how the traditional building was remodel nicely and have artsy modern gest house vibe. We also enjoyed getting time to see Johana town as it has a cool history.

The accommodation is beautiful and spacious. Perfect location to see the area. The owner is a kind soul and stayed with me during the evening so i wouldn't be all alone. Overall, the whole place was gorgeous. I highly recommend you check it out!

BelgiumInternal walls/ partitions between rooms are made of wood planks so that you’d better go there only when there is customer, like we did in early November. Otherwise it could possibly be very noisy…

SwitzerlandIt was quite cold and the shower didn't work, so I was not able to have a shower in the evening. There were stinkbugs in my room, which he could do nothing about but was less comfy.
The owner told me about hints and nice places in the area. He was very friendly and nice. The house is beautiful to look at and it has to be very old. I liked the traditional bed.

GermanyEverything! Keep in mind, this is a countryside Guesthouse, so the location is not easily accessible by train or bus. You can drive to Johana Translation and take a long walk or taxi but a car is probably a must. Ignoring that, this accommodation was amazing. It's an old style Japanese Guesthouse renovated to be extremely comfortable even for people that don't like older houses. It is almost completely renovated and the host really took a lot of effort to decorate the rooms. There is a great kitchen and living room options available. The dorm beds on the third floor are big compared to other hostels but the stairs a little steep and narrow. The first floor is offers bigger rooms for people and an area for children to play (as of October 2023). Outside the house is space for at leat 5-6 cars for parking. By foot you can go to a park, an incredible child playground and a lake. There are probably only one or two options for outside dining by foot, but with car shops, laundry, restaurants are available within 10 minutes.

SingaporeWe were very fortunate that during our stay, we are the only guests so the whole place is very peaceful. As the house structure is traditional so if there's other guests, there can be a lot of different noises. Floor creaking as you walk etc We didn't mind but I thought to remind bookers that this location is in the farmland so you can't get food easily without driving out for a distance.
It is an old Japanese traditional house style. My first time staying in an accommodation like this so it is really charming and interesting experience. The owner is very trusting, leaving musical instruments around for you to tinkle, books to read (in japanese so not everyone can :) ) kitchen to cook

JapanWhile not a complaint, it would be great if there were screens to prevent insects coming in. Also, responsible parties need to make efforts neutralise the odour of the waste tanks in the area.
The location of Kazura near a large pond, Sakuragaike, with views of the mountain range just beyond, provided a relaxing start to each morning. The ground floor lounges are spacious and invite you to relax. It’s where you meet people and end up chatting or playing cards etc.

United StatesWithout a car, it takes quite a bit of planning to come to and from the house with the bus only running every so often. This was disclosed before our stay, but it was a little difficult. We wish we had gone grocery shopping before arriving, because there are no stores nearby— not even a convenience store in close walking distance to the station (it was about a 15-minute walk away). We tried to borrow a bike at the station but the 4-bikes they have we’re already being borrowed. Also, it is good to know ahead of time that the bunk bed futon on the bottom bunk was very hard, even compared to other Japanese futon and mattresses which are more firm than western beds.
It was located in a beautiful location out in the countryside full of critters for my son to enjoy and birds and cicadas for us to listen to. The interior of the traditional home has been updated and is clean and attractive. We were there in the middle of summer when the sun rises before 5AM and the curtains in the bedroom were dark enough to keep the light out. This was much appreciated! Most importantly, our host and his family were welcoming and friendly, even bringing a musician to put on a small concert one night we were there!
