You have your own space in the dormitory with tatami mats and it’s very close to a tattoo-friendly onsen, bus station and to a lake. The owner and the staff was friendly! There are not many people in the guesthouse, so it’s a really nice place to calm down.

The atmosphere of the accommodation is very good, especially when spring arrives. Surrounded by beautiful nature in the old style. But it is modern and comfortable. There are musical instruments to play. The home owner and his team are very hospitable. Suitable for staying alone or in groups.

No complaints at all, just be sure to plan your adventures around the timetable of the shuttle bus, with the bus stop less than 100m from the front door.

Incredible location and a beautiful building, the staff were extremely friendly and helpful. Very well appointed kitchen, which is helpful as the guesthouse is somewhat far from restaurants, it was a pleasure to do some cooking and enjoy the guesthouse as a home.

Due to the warm summer, there were a lot of buds sneaking into the bulding. It was annoying to see and smell them near the room I slept.

We liked how the traditional building was remodel nicely and have artsy modern gest house vibe. We also enjoyed getting time to see Johana town as it has a cool history.

There were a few bugs here & there, but nothing too extreme. I didn't really have any negatives after my visit and am very happy with my stay.

The accommodation is beautiful and spacious. Perfect location to see the area. The owner is a kind soul and stayed with me during the evening so i wouldn't be all alone. Overall, the whole place was gorgeous. I highly recommend you check it out!

Internal walls/ partitions between rooms are made of wood planks so that you’d better go there only when there is customer, like we did in early November. Otherwise it could possibly be very noisy…

Very good quality price ratio! Nice modern and complete bathroom and good location in the nature. Friendly owner. Very calm and peaceful place.

It was quite cold and the shower didn't work, so I was not able to have a shower in the evening. There were stinkbugs in my room, which he could do nothing about but was less comfy.

The owner told me about hints and nice places in the area. He was very friendly and nice. The house is beautiful to look at and it has to be very old. I liked the traditional bed.

It was bug season, but sometimes this happens when you stay in a traditional Japanese home that is 350 years old.

Amazing Guesthouse in the country side that is quickly available by car from Kanazawa or Takayama

Everything! Keep in mind, this is a countryside Guesthouse, so the location is not easily accessible by train or bus. You can drive to Johana Translation and take a long walk or taxi but a car is probably a must. Ignoring that, this accommodation was amazing. It's an old style Japanese Guesthouse renovated to be extremely comfortable even for people that don't like older houses. It is almost completely renovated and the host really took a lot of effort to decorate the rooms. There is a great kitchen and living room options available. The dorm beds on the third floor are big compared to other hostels but the stairs a little steep and narrow. The first floor is offers bigger rooms for people and an area for children to play (as of October 2023). Outside the house is space for at leat 5-6 cars for parking. By foot you can go to a park, an incredible child playground and a lake. There are probably only one or two options for outside dining by foot, but with car shops, laundry, restaurants are available within 10 minutes.

We were very fortunate that during our stay, we are the only guests so the whole place is very peaceful. As the house structure is traditional so if there's other guests, there can be a lot of different noises. Floor creaking as you walk etc We didn't mind but I thought to remind bookers that this location is in the farmland so you can't get food easily without driving out for a distance.

It is an old Japanese traditional house style. My first time staying in an accommodation like this so it is really charming and interesting experience. The owner is very trusting, leaving musical instruments around for you to tinkle, books to read (in japanese so not everyone can :) ) kitchen to cook

Not quite enough fans as it’s quite hot up stairs Bus stops down the hill so bit of a hike to get there. But it’s worth it

A really nice, quirky stay in the woods away from everything. Everything was clean and the host was really nice. Great views of the lake and really nice to walk around it

While not a complaint, it would be great if there were screens to prevent insects coming in. Also, responsible parties need to make efforts neutralise the odour of the waste tanks in the area.

The location of Kazura near a large pond, Sakuragaike, with views of the mountain range just beyond, provided a relaxing start to each morning. The ground floor lounges are spacious and invite you to relax. It’s where you meet people and end up chatting or playing cards etc.

Without a car, it takes quite a bit of planning to come to and from the house with the bus only running every so often. This was disclosed before our stay, but it was a little difficult. We wish we had gone grocery shopping before arriving, because there are no stores nearby— not even a convenience store in close walking distance to the station (it was about a 15-minute walk away). We tried to borrow a bike at the station but the 4-bikes they have we’re already being borrowed. Also, it is good to know ahead of time that the bunk bed futon on the bottom bunk was very hard, even compared to other Japanese futon and mattresses which are more firm than western beds.

It was located in a beautiful location out in the countryside full of critters for my son to enjoy and birds and cicadas for us to listen to. The interior of the traditional home has been updated and is clean and attractive. We were there in the middle of summer when the sun rises before 5AM and the curtains in the bedroom were dark enough to keep the light out. This was much appreciated! Most importantly, our host and his family were welcoming and friendly, even bringing a musician to put on a small concert one night we were there!

I had messaged the property that I was going to be late and there was a delay in their response. Their written communication needs to be improved especially as we did not have a local Japanese phone except for Whattsapp. They need to have Whattsapp access so that it is easy for travellers like us to call them.

We loved the place. Mano the staff on duty was very helpful and guided us well. It was a privilege to stay there.
