Each review score is between 1-10. To get the overall score that you see, we add up all the review scores we’ve received and divide that total by the number of review scores we’ve received. We are currently testing a weighted review system in Malta and Iceland (excluding hotel and vacation rental chains). For properties in these countries, the more recent the review, the bigger the impact on the total review score calculation. In addition, guests can give separate ‘subscores’ in crucial areas, such as location, cleanliness, staff, comfort, facilities, value for money and free Wi-Fi. Note that guests submit their subscores and their overall scores independently, so there’s no direct link between them.
You can review an Accommodation that you booked through our Platform if you stayed there or if you arrived at the property but didn’t actually stay there. To edit a review you’ve already submitted, please contact our Customer Service team.
We have people and automated systems that specialise in detecting fake reviews submitted to our Platform. If we find any, we delete them and, if necessary, take action against whoever is responsible.
Anyone else who spots something suspicious can always report it to our Customer Service team, so our Fraud team can investigate.
Ideally, we would publish every review we receive, whether positive or negative. However, we won’t display any review that includes or refers to (among other things):
To make sure reviews are relevant, we may only accept reviews that are submitted within 3 months of checking out, and we may stop showing reviews once they’re 36 months old – or if the Accommodation has a change of ownership.
An Accommodation may choose to reply to a review.
When you see multiple reviews, the most recent ones will be at the top, subject to a few other factors (what language a review is in, whether it’s just a rating or contains comments as well, etc.). If you like, you can sort and/or filter them (by time of year, review score, etc.).
We sometimes show external review scores from other well-known travel websites. We make it clear when we’ve done this.
These guidelines and standards aim to keep the content on Booking.com relevant and family-friendly without limiting expression of strong opinions. They are also applicable regardless of the sentiment of the comment.
Contributions should be travel related. The most helpful contributions are detailed and help others make better decisions. Please don’t include personal, political, ethical, or religious commentary. Promotional content will be removed and issues concerning Booking.com’s services should be routed to our Customer Service or Accommodation Service teams.
Contributions should be appropriate for a global audience. Please avoid using profanity or attempts to approximate profanity with creative spelling, in any language. Comments and media that include 'hate speech', discriminatory remarks, threats, sexually explicit remarks, violence, and the promotion of illegal activity are not permitted.
All content should be genuine and unique to the guest. Reviews are most valuable when they are original and unbiased. Your contribution should be yours. Booking.com property partners should not post on behalf of guests or offer incentives in exchange for reviews. Attempts to bring down the rating of a competitor by submitting a negative review will not be tolerated.
Respect the privacy of others. Booking.com will make an effort to obscure email addresses, telephone numbers, website addresses, social media accounts, and similar details.
The opinions expressed in contributions are those of Booking.com customers and properties and not of Booking.com. Booking.com does not accept responsibility or liability for any reviews or responses. Booking.com is a distributor (without any obligation to verify) and not a publisher of these comments and responses.
By default, reviews are sorted based on the date of the review and on additional criteria to display the most relevant reviews, including but not limited to: your language, reviews with text, and non-anonymous reviews. Additional sorting options may be available (by type of traveller, by score, etc.).

Perfect location which only takes 1-2min to walk to train station. Quite a few restaurant selections around. The room itself is clean and comfortable. The bath in the hotel is amazing. Plus the staff are all friendly and hospitable even with language barrier. Highly recommend!

Hong KongMy room is a bit old. It seems have not been renovated yet. The onsen is very small, only big enough for max 3 persons.
location is very good, just next to the Iseshi train station. The Japanese breakfast is nice and tasty.

AustraliaMy feet struggle with the necessary in-house slip-on footwear. But this isn’t the Inn’s fault.
Delicious breakfast bought to our room — we had unwittingly booked the ground floor room suitable for disabled guests. This also meant we had an ensuite, a very nice extra in such an old historic accommodation. Best possible access to Iseshi station (JR and Kintetsu). Warm welcome from staff.

ThailandWay over expectation. It is an old building, but the interior in my room looks pretty new. I guess I got the wheelchair accessible room which is huge. Every places is very clean, shared bathroom, shared toilet, etc. The shared bathroom is a bit small but it opens overnight. So, it is empty most of the time. The grandma who showed the room to me doesn’t speak English. But it was not a problem. There’s an English information explained everything.

United StatesThey should mention the bicycles in front, or something, to help you find the Ryokan. The lighting in the room could be better in the bedroom area - for reading. And a place for your luggage would help - since they don't want it on the bed tatami platform.
The location was great for the train (JR) and renting a car ( Toyota at Ujiyamada. Station👍)! The proprietors were super helpful (using a translation app). There were several excellent restaurants nearby (Daiki and Katsura, especially!)

NetherlandsThe little fridge in the room was old and struggling to cool even at maximum cooling stance. It made a lot of noise so we turned it off.
Cozy and characteristic Ryokan with dedicated, kind and friendly staff. Our Japanese is very poor, but staff were patient and used Google Translate when necessary. We felt very welcome and enjoyed our 2 nights in Ise. The Ryokan is right beside Iseshi station and a great spot to explore the region by public transport or rental car. Our room with tatami was comfortable and spacious, everything we needed. We were a bit apprehensive about sleeping with futon matress on the tatami but it proved to be one our most comfortable two nights sleep of our trip! Traditional Japanese breakfast is amazing, but it was a little too much food for us so for the second morning we asked if we could have only one plate to share (might be something to consider requesting beforehand if you're not a big eater in the morning, respecting Japanese etiquette to finish what is being served to you).

FranceThe toilets are shared by many visitors but for us we did not meet any one. It was not so easy to recognize the hotel when we arrived. There are no really signs.
Welcome is fantastic. We could get the room at 1pm. The room is large and very traditional. we leave for two nights like Japanese. The bathroom experiment was new for us. We enjoy after the long journey. The location of the hotel is just close to the train station, very easy to reach Nagoya and Toba. The breakfast was well served in a dining room

IsraelThe hot bath was a bit small, and no lock or anything for the women's bath area - which is actually pretty common with other shared baths I've seen. Other than that, everything was excellent.
Super nice staff, location is excellent right next to the station. It's an old, traditional inn - but everything was well maintained and clean. Room for a single person with futon was spacious and comfortable. Communal bath and toilets were also clean, as well as the shared sink area on the second floor. Was very quiet as well. Great value for the price, highly recommend this place.

AustraliaNothing.
This is a lovely place to stay. The building itself is nearly 100 years old and is a traditional Japanese wooden house. The rooms are spacious and spotlessly clean. I was fortunate enough to be offered a room for those with mobility issues as I would have found it difficult to get on and off the floor. My room had higher seats at the table and the futon bed was on a raised platform which was easier to get on and off. The bed was very comfortable. The owner and staff were extremely helpful. The breakfast was served in the room and was typically Japanese and delicious.

This is my favorite ryokan on this trip, unbeatable at the same price! A century-old hotel, a century-old building, a century-old style, clean and spacious rooms. One hundred years of experience and thoughtfulness can also be seen in the service of the clerk and the thick instructions on the table. But I didn't expect that the facilities and home appliances are very advanced, such as voice translators, handheld scanners, free washing machines and dryers in the store. The bathroom is clean, the hot spring is comfortable, and the location is next to the train station, super convenient!
