Each review score is between 1-10. To get the overall score that you see, we add up all the review scores we’ve received and divide that total by the number of review scores we’ve received. We are currently testing a weighted review system in Malta and Iceland (excluding hotel and vacation rental chains). For properties in these countries, the more recent the review, the bigger the impact on the total review score calculation. In addition, guests can give separate ‘subscores’ in crucial areas, such as location, cleanliness, staff, comfort, facilities, value for money and free Wi-Fi. Note that guests submit their subscores and their overall scores independently, so there’s no direct link between them.
You can review an Accommodation that you booked through our Platform if you stayed there or if you arrived at the property but didn’t actually stay there. To edit a review you’ve already submitted, please contact our Customer Service team.
We have people and automated systems that specialise in detecting fake reviews submitted to our Platform. If we find any, we delete them and, if necessary, take action against whoever is responsible.
Anyone else who spots something suspicious can always report it to our Customer Service team, so our Fraud team can investigate.
Ideally, we would publish every review we receive, whether positive or negative. However, we won’t display any review that includes or refers to (among other things):
To make sure reviews are relevant, we may only accept reviews that are submitted within 3 months of checking out, and we may stop showing reviews once they’re 36 months old – or if the Accommodation has a change of ownership.
An Accommodation may choose to reply to a review.
When you see multiple reviews, the most recent ones will be at the top, subject to a few other factors (what language a review is in, whether it’s just a rating or contains comments as well, etc.). If you like, you can sort and/or filter them (by time of year, review score, etc.).
We sometimes show external review scores from other well-known travel websites. We make it clear when we’ve done this.
These guidelines and standards aim to keep the content on Booking.com relevant and family-friendly without limiting expression of strong opinions. They are also applicable regardless of the sentiment of the comment.
Contributions should be travel related. The most helpful contributions are detailed and help others make better decisions. Please don’t include personal, political, ethical, or religious commentary. Promotional content will be removed and issues concerning Booking.com’s services should be routed to our Customer Service or Accommodation Service teams.
Contributions should be appropriate for a global audience. Please avoid using profanity or attempts to approximate profanity with creative spelling, in any language. Comments and media that include 'hate speech', discriminatory remarks, threats, sexually explicit remarks, violence, and the promotion of illegal activity are not permitted.
All content should be genuine and unique to the guest. Reviews are most valuable when they are original and unbiased. Your contribution should be yours. Booking.com property partners should not post on behalf of guests or offer incentives in exchange for reviews. Attempts to bring down the rating of a competitor by submitting a negative review will not be tolerated.
Respect the privacy of others. Booking.com will make an effort to obscure email addresses, telephone numbers, website addresses, social media accounts, and similar details.
The opinions expressed in contributions are those of Booking.com customers and properties and not of Booking.com. Booking.com does not accept responsibility or liability for any reviews or responses. Booking.com is a distributor (without any obligation to verify) and not a publisher of these comments and responses.
By default, reviews are sorted based on the date of the review and on additional criteria to display the most relevant reviews, including but not limited to: your language, reviews with text, and non-anonymous reviews. Additional sorting options may be available (by type of traveller, by score, etc.).

JapanThe other visitors were not sensitive to the people renting the other rooms and were noisy. Because the walls were thin, their noise could be heard throughout the house.
I loved the comfort of this quaint, japanese home. The owner was very nice and offered to move me to a room with a view of Mt Fuji from the terrace. He even offered a ride to Kawaguchiko station.

SwitzerlandThe only thing that we think was missing is a kettle to boil some hot water.
We had a great time during this stay. The whole hose is in a nice traditional Japanese style with tatami mats and a futon. The room was very spacious and clean. There was a shared toilet and bath wich was very clean and as well a fridge and microwave. The owner and staff was very friendly and at our checkout he even drove us to Kawaguchiko Station.

CanadaThe hosts were amazing. They drove us to a sushi buffet thing for lunch, and even gave us something to try. Very accommodating, very sweet people. They even drove us back to the bus station on a rainy day. I will come back 100% and will recommend this place to everyone

This place was amazing 😁 the host cooked the other guests and I a barbecue on the day of arriving, which made me feel so welcome and it was nice to be friendly with the other guests. There was a lovely bath that was always clean and hot, and the room was large, clean, and had an excellent view of Fuji. When I left, I was even driven to the station! Fantastic stay, highly recommended

AustraliaOnly hard thing is finding places to food if you are just walking everywhere, although the owner recommends two great restaurants so try them!! Would be so easy if you had a car!
Everything about this stay was amazing! The owner is very friendly and helpful, the room is spacious and awesome with good facilities like a heater which we definitely needed! Such a beautiful area which is very local, but still pretty easy to get around from here! Renting bikes was the highlight for us as we saw all of lake kawaguchiko so so easily and had an awesome day, when we got back we were treated by the large onsen style bath to enjoy and warm up! We had large suitcase and the owner happily took us to the station when we checked out which is so kind. Amazing place to stay!!

United StatesThe outlets were a bit problematic -- it was hard to keep larger adapters plugged in, like to charge my laptop. Not a huge issue though. The shared toilet was tiny, and would be difficult for a bigger person (pretty typical for Japan though).
Very nice, cozy traditional (tatami style) rooms. Our room was spacious with a view of Mt Fuji - incredible to wake up to. The owner is super sweet and very helpful, despite the language barrier, and gave us a lot of pamphlets with tourist info and recommendations. The shared toilet was fine, and the bath was nice & an interesting experience. Fridge/microwave were useful for storing and reheating convenience store food when we stayed in because it totally poured outside all morning on our 2nd day haha. TV with Netflix was a nice perk I wasn't expecting in a traditional style room.

JapanAs can sometimes be typical in Japanese homes, the walls were super thin, so you could hear your neighbors as well as every time someone went up and down the central stairs, used the sink, and the bathroom. Not for light sleepers! Also, there was only one toilet shared by all the patrons. This was tough at times if you needed to use the restroom. Finally, the central stairs were quite steep with no railing, so older guests or guests with disabilities would have a difficult time staying on the 2nd floor.
The owner and his family were kind. He was very responsive in messages, provided us with free bottles of tea each day of the stay, and drove us to the train station after we checked out (what a relief because it was over 2 km away!). The AC/heat situation was good, and the futons were standard. Our room had a balcony where we could see Mt. Fuji, which was nice. Finally, the shower room (traditional Japanese style with low faucets and stools) was nice and provided shampoo, conditioner, and body wash as well as a deep hot bath.

United Arab EmiratesThe toilet and bath are shared with the rest of the floor. It never created any problems though, everything is clean; there were never queues (there are not enough rooms to create obstructions)
The caretakers were terrific. They dropped off at the train station and onsen. One caretaker knows English well. They do laundry for you for a small fee; some rooms have a view of the Fuji. The hot bath in the facility is amazing—big rooms in Japanese style. Caretakers offered us bikes and umbrellas to protect us from the sun. Outstanding experience
