It's an old house with no elevator (clearly mentioned) so just be ready to bring up your suitcase :)

Hidden away in central Kagoshima, close to a tram stop, this friendly haven of quiet was a perfect base. Comfortable, cosy setup, plenty of space, lots of charm, and a friendly welcome.

Couldn't think of any since I only stayed for a night.

Stay for a night for the ferry to Yakushima island. The location is perfect, just less than 10 minutes walk to the ferry terminal. Shared room is super clean and comfortable. Staff speaks very good English and has been very friendly. There is also a common room that you can eat/chat with other people staying in the hostel. Would definitely come back if I visit Kagoshima again.

Shoko is super nice, easy-going and laid-back. She’s apparently exposed to many different cultures and open-minded and knowledgeable. Enjoyed taking to her. I came for work alone and she invited me to a Christmas Eve party run by an owner of a Japanese bar nearby and I got to know the local community a bit. Thanks!

Excellent hostel, right in the heart of town, very near the ferry to Sakurajima (only¥200 fare one-way, frequent departures), with all the essentials in a comfortable, traditional type accommodation and, most importantly, a gracious and generous hostess. Do ask about the local onsen and restaurants! She gave me some great tips, which really made my stay special.

Extremely homely and comfortable stay, at a very good location located near to the city center and close to the port. The host was not only very friendly, she also has a lot of good tips where to have exceptional dinner and other activities in Kagoshima. 10/10, will gladly come again.

Situated on a 3rd floor without escalator. So it could be difficult to reach for someone with health difficulties.

The place is a little outdated, so if you want modern hotel looking decor, this isn't for you. It really resembles what a japanese private house might look like.

It's such a great, homey hostel. Shoko, the receptionist, was amazing, hung out with us, and helped us with recommendations. Would absolutely come again!

As mentioned in the description of the property, there is no elevator, and it is on the 4th floor. Not a big problem at all, just something to note. The bunk bed length was a little too short for me, but I am very tall, especially for Japanese standards, so that is no fault of the owner. Bring an eye mask. The window shades do not block the morning light.

Shoko the host was so lovely and helpful. The common areas were nice. The whole area was clean and the pillow and doona were so unbelievable comfortable. It was near a bus and tram stop so it was super easy to get places. Many yummy food spots near aswell.

The bunk bed was a bit small for me (172cm). I also didn’t realize before arriving that you have to walk up to the 4th floor for the hostel.

I didn't have any complaints with the stay! If you're adverse to futons then I would suggest somewhere else, but I had no issues with them.

Miss Moriyama (the owner) is excellent. Very laid back and offered many recommendations. Speaks both English and Japanese, and in my case, spoke Japanese with me since she knew I was studying it. I will definitely stay again when I get the chance to return (:

The host is so nice and easy to contact when needing help. The room is a two layered bunk bed, very cozy, except its length may not fit for taller people. It's a great experience, I would definitely book here again if I revisit Kagoshima!

You'll need to climb 4 flights of stairs to reach it (and leave it), and some of the doorways and archways are a bit low if you are taller. Especially the second bathroom, which has an entry door about 4 feet tall. Also, this tiny bathroom shares a window with the shower, so we felt strange showering knowing someone could go in the small bathroom and look through the frosted glass to peak. Maybe a small curtain to cover it?

Very close to the port for the ferry to Yakushima. Host is incredibly kind! We had a big room and we were comfortable with the amount of space.
